Now that the draft has come and gone, I'd like to take a moment to talk about everyone that Sarasota drafted in the first 10 rounds, and grade each pick.
Round 2 Pick 20: DT Cuco Clemente
Sarasota's first pick here is very solid. Cuco had a great season in the DSFL, racking up an impressive 46 tackles. A hard hitter, and a great defensive player. With 2 sacks on the season as well, Clemente is expected to be a day 1 starter and a big contributor to this expansion franchise. In the NSFL, Clemente is only going to get better. Great pick. 9/10.
Round 3 Pick 26: LB Haha Mango-Panda
The 3rd round pick from the Sailfish was used on Haha Mango-Panda, a damn good linebacker who had a staggering 106 tackles in his rookie season and 4 passes defenced. Another excellent choice, he's definitely going to make an impact both on the field and in the locker room. Everyone who didn't draft this guy when they had the chance is going to regret it. Haha should excel in Sarasota. perfect pick for the 3rd round, truly great value. 10/10
Round 3 Pick 36: WR Michael Witheblock
A scrappy young reciever, Witheblock performed well in Kansas City in his rookie season, averaging a stunning 12.6 yards per reception. Looking to get more usage in Sarasota, Michael is here to compete. Expect solid numbers from this guy, much bigger than last year. Good choice 8/10.
Round 4 Pick 38: LB Fawn Dillmiballs
Pick 69 in the DSFL draft and defensive stalwart, Fawn is a truly excellent player. How he fell this far is beyond me. With 122 tackles, 1 sack and a pair of interceptions (inlcuding one returned to the house) Fawn Dillmiballs is a high quality player, and he should be a great fit in Sarasota's young new team. Excellent pick 10/10.
Round 5 Pick 50: TE James Angler
A solid and reliable tight end, James Angler is a great player, and an even better person. In the 5th round, he also represents excellent value for the pick. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Angler on the field. good pick 7/10.
Round 6 Pick 62: S Eric Barlow
A great sixth round draft choice, barlow played well and showed real promise. We'll see if he's ready to take that next step, but all indications show he's ready, and should perform well. Another player i'm surprised to see falling so far. Good pick 7/10.
Round 6 Pick 68: G Joey McCabe
McCabe only allowed 3 sacks in his rookie season. only 3. An excellent player on the line, Joey is great value for a great player. He's going to explode in Sarasota. Another good pick 8/10.
Round 8 Pick 86: S Sebastian Vettel
A pass defence machine, Vettel was created in a secret lab for the specific purpose of crushing the spirits of opposing quarterbacks. Expect a monster season from Sebastian this year. Great pick 9/10.
Round 9 Pick 98: RB Aaron Feels
Easily the best unning back that the Sailfish drafted, Feels is a performer. He has all the right skills. He's fast, strong, and dedicated to the game. If he can mantain his 5.1 yards per carry or improve it even, he's gonna destroy opposing defenses. Good pick 8/10.
Round 10 Pick 110: KP Jacob Small
A fantastic Special Teams choice, Jacob is accurate, with a cannon for a leg. Some say that the balls he punts are still flying to this day. Top tier pick, one of Sarasota's best choices this late in the draft. 9/10.
Round 10 Pick 115: RB Kevin Fakon
This guy; too slow, too fat, uncommited and unlikely to ever succeed. Why anyone would draft him is beyond me. 4.6 yards per carry just isn't good enough. This guy should just retire and save us all the boredom of watching him. This pick is the only Sarasota pick I don't like. 3/10
Round 11 Pick 122: TE Clark Boyd
TE Clark Boyd missed his rookie season, but he's still good enough for the Sailfish to take a chance on him in the 11th round. I see no reason why this kid can't succeed, and if he doesn't, then at least it was a back of the draft pick used on him. Good pick 7/10.
Round 12 Pick 134: CB Bo Jangles (14 tackles - 1 int - 7pd)
Bo played well in hsi rookie season, but he could have been better. I can see him taking that next step and becoming a top CB in the NSFL. Watch this one, he's going to be succesful before you know it. Good pick 7/10.
I like Sarasota's choices. I would rate their draft 7/10 overall; it would have been higher, but they wasted a pick on Kevin Fakon.
Round 2 Pick 20: DT Cuco Clemente
