The draft is usually an exciting time. Filled with nervousness, joy, and anticipation, it’s probably some players’ favorite day of their career. My draft experience was probably a little bit different than most, though.
When the draft rolled around, I wasn’t very active. I still did (most) of the activity checks, but that was pretty much the extent of it. I had kind of lost interest in the league at that point. I’m not exactly sure why. Maybe it was because I hadn’t talked in the team’s discord server and connected with anyone, or it could have been because I had fallen behind the curve when it came to progression. Whatever the reason, I just wasn’t really feeling it anymore. The draft process brought some life back into me, at least temporarily. When teams started scouting me, asking questions and what not, that was actually pretty fun. I thought that maybe I’d try to get back into the league and try to be more active. Ultimately, that didn’t happen.
Draft day came, and I didn’t even realize it until the draft was already underway. I was playing games when I realized, so I decided to flip the livestream on. Honestly, I didn’t expect to be drafted. I had only done one update since joining the league, leaving me at 70 TPE. I kept playing games, glancing over occasionally to see if my name had, for some reason, been called yet. Round after round came and went, and I thought that my hunch about going undrafted would hold true. Round 11 started, and I turned and told my girlfriend, “Honestly, I wouldn’t mind going undrafted. I’ve already lost interest, so if a team drafts me, I’m just going to feel bad about it. If I go undrafted, I can just quit.” Pick 126 comes, and so does my name. I believe my first words were, “well, shit.”
When I woke up the next morning, my mood had shifted. I decided that if a team spent a pick on me, I was going to at least try to make their pick count. Ever since then, I’ve been much more active. I’ve been talking with several people. I’ve been looking for ways to progress. I’ve actually been trying to be a part of the NSFL. I’ve been having fun! It’s only been a few days, and my interest has already been completely rekindled, and I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon.
Thank you to the Butchers, the Grey Ducks, and all of the people that I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with, for helping to reel me back into the league. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. I think I’m going to like it around here.
