Moving on (up) to the East Side
A snippet from an upcoming episode of Proving Ground: Life In the DSFL
Zed Keppler has granted an unprecedented level of access to HOBO Sports to film and chronicle the life of a budding athlete trying to make his mark on professional football.
By the time I arrived at the facility that Kepler had already been there for an hour and a half. Reviewing game film from yesterday's two incredibly and excruciatingly painful losses. Each game the pythons have lost by one point. Two losses by two combined points is absolutely gut-wrenching and in sport, especially in the DSFL. Kepler was again a non-factor in each of the games. Only appearing on special teams and in dire times of need for spells when the first team and second team needed breathers. He did manage to get two touches in the first game. His only two touches of the year. He had 5 yards on the day. And 5 yards on the season. “I just want to win, and play a part.”. Kepler continues to put in the same amount of effort same amount of focus and work at the facility and also at home to try end game playing time. “At the end of the day I just want them to be forced to play me. I want to be the best on the team.” Keppler contends.
not long after film study his phone rings he puts on speaker. It's Claire his PR agent. Keppler handles almost everything on his own but public relations is not one of them. It's a one-sided conversation but he hangs up and his eyes are wide open. “ I think I'm getting traded,” he said. Kepler said that Claire asked if he had asked for a trade on his own which he vehemently denied. thirty seconds later his phone rings again this time it's not on speaker and he goes into the other room. After about 5 minutes he comes back and let's the room know. Portland has him on the trading block.
“ We just want to get you a chance to play I want to help you find a great spot.”
On days like this, it's pretty evident that this is just a business. The next 4 hours or so goes by so quickly it makes your head spin. Kepler fields various conversations from various people some GMs are asking him if he wants to trade positions. One general manager asked if he wanted to play corner back, another wide receiver. After having several conversations and getting a few good ideas Kepler actually relaxes, back on the couch and says “ honestly this might be for the better. If I get to a good spot you can really push me to be the best I can be.” More than a few teams say they want to grab him and they're making offers to Portland. But now we play the waiting game. Some General Managers are not sure of the price, some general managers are not sure of the fit but the main thing is that Kepler will have to find a new home within the next day. The question is where?
“Looks like I am moving to the Twin Cities”
