It is overtime in Myrtle Beach. Norfolk has the entire game in their hands as Sidekickieboy Bauer lines up with his special teams unit. An entire season is upon this as the Stadium goes quiet.
There is the snap...And the boot...but wait. There is something special in the air between both these teams. This isn’t just some regular football game.
Let's take a look at each teams season leading up to this. Let's Rewind.
The Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. Ultimini Champions. This team has just come off winning it all and now having to prove themselves again that they can get back to the championship. The pieces on their offense and defense helped out with their very successful 9-5 season, with individuals like Chris Ramos slinging the ball, Dax Frost carrying the rock in the backfield, a stupid good offensive line with individuals like Douglas Quail and S. Trembley, and Sabor and Heath Evans being very reliable receivers. On the defense, they had Johnny Hellzapoppin, and Troen Egghands proving dominance in their respective positions of Saftey and Defensive End. However, most of those individuals are no longer a Buccaneer, with most of the moving up to NSFL teams continuing their careers. So, we are now at Season 23. Ramos is still slinging the ball, and new draft picks are picking up the slack with the running game, with the tandem of Nicholas Ayers and 3' Jeffery helping to lead the league in rushing yards. Garfield Despacito Jr. has his breakout year, and Tight Ends James Angler and Clark Boyd putting in work. Trevor Mouseman the Linebacker and Eugene Smoothie become the faces of the defense as they also create some magic on the defensive side of the ball. Truly a team to be reckoned with.
The Buccaneers immediately light up their opponents in the preseason, going 3-1 and making a statement to the rest of the league. They rout Portland and Dallas in Week One and in Week Two. A loss at Tijuana is met up with a Kansas City win. So far, the season is going pretty well for the Buccaneers, as spirits are high with many of the players. But, it is unfortunate to note that they then would lose the next 3, at London, at home versus Minnesota, and at Norfolk. 3-4 mid-way through the season now has let down most of the players, but the fire in their hearts pushes them to get a crucial win at home versus Portland in Week 8, making them 4-4. However, they go to lose the next 2 at Dallas and at home versus Tijuana, making them 4-6.
"We can't end the season here," they said. They had to pull themselves together and play some damn football. They did play some damn football. By winning their next three. At Kansas City, home versus London, and in Minnesota. It is now the end of the season, and to make the playoffs and go on, they had to win against Norfolk at home, which seems easy on paper…
...but let's take a look at Norfolk.
It is funny now that I realize that the Seawolves had to deal with losing in the SFC Championship and watching their opponent, the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. But anyway, what is the team that took them to the SFC Championship? Well, it was led by Luke Skywalker at Quarterback, Tequila Sunrise at Running Back, and Reynaud Haugland and Kevin Koh leading the receiving corps. Spike Suzuki and Ryan Scott were big defensive players on the Seawolves and put in their respective work. It is these pieces and many more that lead the Seawolves to an 8-6 record and a playoff spot in Season 22. Like Myrtle Beach, Norfolk had some roster changes that they had to address with the draft. Luke is back, and Tequila Sunrise is also here, again, to dominate once more. But after they lost in the SFC Championships, they had to work back up to that spot and do their damndest to prove that they can go back to that position.
Having the same preseason as the Buccaneers, they were looking explosive coming into Season 23. After a close win at Tijuana, they would proceed to lose the next four games. It almost appears as if they are just going to flop and not make it to the playoffs. But, like the Buccaneers again, they had to rekindle their spirits and create something out of their nothing. They would proceed to win six out of eight games, most of them being within a couple of scores, but nonetheless, they were back in it. But now, to seal the deal and head into the playoffs again, they needed to go against the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. At away. A pretty stressful thing to think about, as your entire future is not getting in your favor. But now…
...we finally get in the game.
It was a brisk December in 2037 as the night lights lit on and the stage set itself. These two teams have come from highs and lows, making an attempt to get to their former glory or keep their franchise on the hot streak. Kal Solarin boots it as we get into the start of our game.
Norfolk chugs down the field to the end zone as the Myrtle beach defense grinds their drive to a halt. They had to resort to a field goal, but it still left them up by three. What is Myrtle Beach’s response to this? A Pick Six by DB Jadakiss. On Norfolk’s 34 yard line. Well, it’s not the greatest of things to happen, but they can pull through and answer. Well, Myrtle Beach made an answer of some sort. Another pick six, this time by Thubba Bumper, coming from the Norfolk 41 yard line. So, you are down by 17 points in the first quarter. Yes, those were all in the First Quarter of the game! So, Norfolk appears to have this game in the bag, as the defense proves their dominance over a Myrtle Beach squad that can’t capitalize on it. But, karma is a fickle son of a bitch. In the second quarter, Myrtle Beach’s first response to this was a touchdown by Nicholas Ayers. Norfolk doesn’t respond. Second half now, still no response from Norfolk as Tight End Clark Boyd makes a touchdown pass. Still, silence from Norfolk! And, to capitalize more on Norfolk’s undertakings, ANOTHER touchdown pass, this time to James Angler.
This game has become red hot. Norfolk finally answers their domination by a touchdown pass to Tequila Sunrise. But, the plot only thickens more. Kal Solarin at the beginning of the fourth quarter ties everything up to 24-24 by a field goal kick. And all drives grind to a halt for the rest of the quarter. This game is going to overtime now.
Norfolk wins the toss, and gets the ball. They don’t score on their attempt to seal the game. Myrtle Beach gets the ball. Same thing, no dice. This chaotic back and forth comes down to where we started, Sidekickieboy Bauer lined up and ready to boot it into the goalposts.
We have seen the buildup to this moment. The drama, the wins, the loss, and the tension, as one team comes out of here with a playoff spot and a chance to make their mark in history.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a Moment in History.
There is the snap...the ball is launched…
AND THE SEAWOLVES GET IT IN THERE! NO!
THE SEASON CAN’T END LIKE THIS!
Thanks to @Blasoon for the cool idea.
