Top 10 Career PDs for Current Players
One of my favorite things to do is look in the Top 10 Career and Top 10 Season info in the Index and look at all the records that players have broken recently. As a Cornerback Pass Deflections are one of if not the most important stat I have to measure how I did during the season. Unfortunately, Pass Deflections are not in the Index Record section. Fortunately, our amazing Wiki team has two great pages that keep track of the Top 10 Career Pass Deflections and the Top 10 Season Pass Deflections. Originally I had planned on making this article about those two categories, but since they are actually available instead I want to look at the Top 10 Pass Deflections for only current players. This includes anyone who recorded a Pass Deflection in Season 22. Without further ado, the current top 10 career PDs are:
Danny Grithead - 180 PDs
Johnny Snuggles - 162 PDs
Deon Taylor - 142 PDs
Emondov Emoji - 123 PDs
Alex Selich - 113 PDs
Mo Berry - 108 PDs
Lucas Knight - 106 PDs
Xerxes Ridley - 104 PDs
Richard D’Attoria V - 97 PDs
Dermot Lavelle Jr. - 93 PDs
As the oldest player in the league it’s no surprise that Danny Grithead is at the top of this list at the end of Season 22. Grithead is officially retired, so this is his only time on this list. At 180 PDs that is good for 3rd most all time. Grithead was very consistent throughout his career with over 15 PDs in 6 of his seasons. He failed to hit 10 PDs only 3 times and those were his last 3 seasons where he was really fighting regression, and even in those 3 seasons he eclipsed 5 PDs in each one. A truly incredible career, and I’m especially amazed at how long he was able to stay relevant. A sure fire hall of famer.
Johnny Snuggles is next on the list and as a Season 13 veteran he is not as old as Grithead, but still one of the oldest players on this list. I have no idea what Snuggles plans are, but I could definitely see him being good enough to surpass Grithead before he retires. He’s got enough TPE to last at least a couple more seasons. Including his rookie season where he had 14 pass deflections Snuggles never had less than 13 pass deflections until this season when he only had 7. He still had quite a lot of TPE, so I’m not sure if this is due to maybe a change in where he is playing for the Wraiths or just bad sim luck. Plenty of young players with much less TPE had more PDs than Snuggles did, and I don’t think the sim penalizes a player for being older, so therefore he just had some bad sim luck this season. He is currently 8th on the Top 10 Career PD’s, but it hasn’t been updated in a couple seasons, so if you follow the link to it you won’t see Snuggles on the list. At least not as of my writing of this article.
Next up on the list is Deon Taylor who recently announced that he is retiring, so like Grithead this will be his only time on this list. Taylor was a Season 15 player and surpassed 10 pass deflections in all of his seasons. At 142 pass deflections he is just 6 pass deflections short of being in the top 10 for his career. His season 19 performance was incredible with 27 total pass deflections, which is good for 10th most in a season all time. Taylor surpassed 20 pass deflections four times including his rookie season. One has to wonder how many pass deflections he could have gotten if he had stuck around for at least a couple more seasons. Would he have regressed too much to make an impact on his pass deflection numbers or would he have been able to break into that top 10 career list?
Emondov Emoji is fourth on the list with 123 pass deflections. Emoji is also a season 15 player and like Taylor he has never had less than 10 pass deflections in a season. His career high is just 1 below Taylor with 26 in his second season, but that was his only season with over 20 pass deflections, which is why there is such a big gap between Emoji and Taylor. Emoji more than likely still has at least two seasons left and in that time he definitely has a chance to gain enough pass deflections to reach that top 10 career list. Will be interesting to see where he is on this list after next season and see how close he gets.
Alex Selich is fifth on this list and as a linebacker he is also the first non defensive back to make the list. The majority of his pass deflections came earlier in his career when he amassed an impressive 82 pass deflections in his first five seasons. Since then he has consistently been getting 4 pass deflections each season. Selich is the last remaining season 11 player left, and I can’t imagine he will be around much longer as he is about to hit that point where he can’t fight regression any longer. Surpassing 100 pass deflections as a linebacker is impressive enough as it is and I’m sure we’ll see Selich in the hall of fame soon.
The sixth spot on the list is also a linebacker. At 108 pass deflections Mo Berry is quickly catching Alex Selich, and will more than likely surpass him in season 23. Berry is a season 15 create that started out with just 6 pass deflections his rookie year before exploding in his second season with 21 and has had no less than 11 pass deflections each season since. In the sim Berry plays SLB for the Yeti. I wonder if SLB’s get more pass deflections in the sim than MLB’s. Just a random thought I had while I was writing this article. Without much research that checks out to me as Second Line MLB Quenton Bode had just 3 pass deflections this season, but rookie phenom Ugarth the Dissector had an incredible 16 pass deflections and he played SLB in the sim. So if you want to rack up the pass deflections as a linebacker request to play SLB instead of MLB. Anyway, Berry still has a few seasons of high production that will easily boost him up at least close to that top 10 career list. Will be interesting to see if he can get there or not.
Lucas Knight is another season 15 create to make this top 10 and he is now a member of the Sarasota Sailfish. He is just 2 behind Berry at 106 pass deflections at this point in his career. He’s been very consistent hitting 15 pass deflections in four of his eight seasons. The sim was not kind to him in season 21 as he only had 8 pass deflections, which was a career low despite him being at peak TPE. I have no explanation for this, so I’m just going to assume no one was throwing his way since he was clearly the best cornerback on the Outlaws. Knight is in the middle of a whole bunch of good season 15 players that all have around the same pass deflections. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top for season 15 when it comes to pass deflections. They should still have a few seasons of relevance to have that shuffle around a bit.
This next entrant is interesting as this player has been inactive for a few seasons now and yet has been able to continue to have excellent pass deflection numbers. Xerxes Ridley comes in at eighth on the list with 104 pass deflections, and is also from season 15. Other than a couple of seasons in the middle of his career where he didn’t quite hit 10 pass deflections he has had excellent numbers throughout his career. In the past 3 seasons he has 57 pass deflections. Ridley actually led the league in pass deflections in both season 21 and season 20. Since he has been inactive for so long I don’t imagine he will be adding many more pass deflections as he will soon be too low in TPE to be worth being on a roster.
Richard D’Attoria V is the next player on the list and as many of you probably know he has had an interesting career as he was a safety and for some of his career he played linebacker. This might be the case for others on this list as well, but I’m not sure. D’Attoria is again a member of the incredible season 15 class that seems to be dominating this top 10. Safeties playing linebacker is no longer allowed, so eventually there won’t be any players on this list that may have benefited from that. D’Attoria’s stats spiked in the middle of his career, but his pass deflection numbers have been very sporadic throughout with random drops followed by huge spikes. I’m not really sure if this has to do with switching back to safety or just the randomness of the sim. D’Attoria has a chance to move up on this list if his numbers continue to go up again, but there is also a lot of younger competition catching up to him, so he may get surpassed by younger players if his numbers don’t go back up to what you would expect from a high tpe safety.
The last spot on the list goes to a player that’s name you’ll probably recognize from the list of top 10 career pass deflections that I linked to. Dermot Lavelle Jr is the son of legendary Wraiths cornerback Dermot Lavelle who ended his career with a staggering 249 pass deflections. That’s 62 more than the next player on the list. I don’t think any player will ever catch him. Is there a reason he is so much higher than every other player? I have no idea, but if you have an idea of why I would love to know. Anyways, back to Lavelle Jr who is a season 16 player and at 93 pass deflections is quickly catching up to all the season 15 players that he is a year younger than. He’s been consistent with most of his seasons being around 13 or so pass deflections. He doesn’t have any big spikes in the 20s, but he also doesn’t really have any lows either other than his rookie season where he was still able to get 8 pass deflections.
There you have it. This list will be ever changing, so I plan on updating it every season. Hopefully someone other than me finds this interesting. Part of my desire to do this was to see how likely it is that my own player can make it into this list, and at 59 pass deflections through five seasons I think I can make it at some point, but I don’t expect to be anywhere near having enough pass deflections to crack that top 10 career list. Let me know what you think in the comments below and if you have any insight into why Dermot Lavelle has so many more pass deflections than anyone else.
