"Alright everyone before we get to our NSFL player interview, we would like to say that tonight's broadcast of 95.8 Chicago Sports Radio is presented by Lumberjack Shaving gel for men, "feel like a Lumberjack today!" The rather enthusiastic radio host Frank Smith, or Wombat as he calls himself, says as he prepares to introduce Eric Richards onto his show.
In all honesty, Eric would not have come onto the show if his planned hike was postponed by rain. He was supposed to go on a nice hike with Clair on one of his favorite trails, but it started raining as soon as he did it. Still, this outta be fun and his could do his hiking trip another day. Finally Wombat prepares to introduce him "and now our special guest we are going to interview from our beloved Chicago Butchers, #67 Eric Richards!"
"Hello everybody" Eric greeted the listeners of the show. "I am a rookie saftey who trying his best to be as good as he can be"
"Heh that's right Eric, and I'd say you're having a great rookie season this year!"
"Hey thanks man I am trying my best despite the teams struggles" Eric chuckles a bit wistfully "i do believe we will be better in the upcoming seasons as we improve and our players get more experience"
"That's good to hear from you" Wombat smiles as he starts to ask questions "so tell me where you are from and how your childhood was"
"I was born in a small hospital in Sheperdsville Kentucky. My mom actually insisted on a natural birth at first, but quickly decided on a C-section due to the pain" he looks down a bit "due to some complications with my birth, mom can't really have any more kids unfortunately"
"That's sad to hear Eric, guess you usually don't tell that story"
"Yeah for the most part, but mom and dad seem to have accepted it even though my mom always wanted a daughter. Thankfully my little cousin practically views her as her mom due to her mom not really being around"
"So would you say your childhood was good?"
"Yeah it was great, we would go to see sports events all the time, especially Louisville and Kentucky football and basketball games. When I was on high school I wanted to be a basketball player at first"
"Oh?" Wombat asks "what stopped you?"
"I didn't have the right body type for it. It doesn't really matter, because football became a bigger love for me then basketball" Eric smiles
"Alright next question: we heard about an incident in your 4th of July BBQ. Care to explain what happened?"
"Alright here's my side of the story" Eric sighs " these guys came to my party and quickly got smashed, and they wanted to light these fireworks in my backyard. My mistake was not realizing what kind of fireworks they were right there and then. I was not going to let them light those big fireworks in my yard, and I stupidly thought they would be safer at this neighborhood where a lot of people were lighting them. I sure you heard the rest of what happened after that."
"Yeah it was crazy." Wombat said "why did you think that neighborhood would be safer?"
"Well i didn't realize there would be a lot of kids and drunk enablers over there, and I thought it would only be adults. In hindsight, I should have found a way to keep them in my house and threw the fireworks out at a dump or something. The whole thing was honestly embarrassing, but I am glad the damage was not as bad as it could have been"
"Yeah I guess you are lucky there." Wombay smiles "so the season has been a improvement but only by 2 wins from just 1 last season for a record of 3-10. How are you feeling about this season?"
"Its been a frustrating season for sure, but it has been what I expected" Eric smiles a bit "but we are still rebuilding and we will get better. We have a lot of young players here, including me, who will get better and will grow. Everyone just needs to bear with us, Rome wasn't built in a day"
"Thats absolutely right" Wombat says "By the way i heard you are having a son named Noah, are you nervous or excited?"
"I am both of those things" Eric laughs "I can't wait to meet my son, but I am extremely nervous about meeting him as well. He's gonna be such a good kid with me and Clair watching over him"
"I bet he will!" Wombat chuckles "can't imagine how much fun he will have with a NSFL football player as his dad"
"Yeah he will be a bit spoiled, but we will teach him how to be a good kid" Eric smiles, looking up at the ceiling for a bit "just like my dad taught me"
"Well anyways I think that's all the tine we have!" Wombat says shaking Eric's hand. "Thank you for your time here, and good luck in your career!"
"Thanks Wombat" Eric says as he leaves and sees that it has stopped raining outside "of course now it stops raining" he rolls his eyes a bit and heads back home, where Clair is waiting for him on the porch in a rocking chair
"Welcome hone honey!" Clair says as she hugs him "I listened to it while you were gone"
"I bet you did my sweet lady" Eric smiles as he hugs her back "how's my little man?"
"I felt him kick this morning" Clair smiles "ohhhhh I just can't wait until he's here!"
"I know me too!" Eric says as he puts a hand on her belly. Then he feels a little kick and gasps "hey there little man"
"Heh looks like he will be a daddy's kid" Clair smiles "just like you were right?"
"Yep!" Eric chuckles as they head inside "just like I was"
