It doesn't take much to become a target of a bully at a young age. Kids will make fun of other kids over anything. Body type, hair color, having braces, or just standing out a bit from the crowd. Just ask Darren Pama, a Tight End prospect entering this year's DSFL draft.
"Honestly, I got bullied over a number of different things, most of which I don't remember that well. I was too good at something, I wasn't good enough at the same thing a week later. I was too tall. I was too short. I was too fast. You stand out some way and kids are going to be cruel to you. But there was only one that forced me to change something about myself in order to cope."
Darren Pama was born Shaun Pama, in a hospital in San Francisco. He grew up to two loving parents, who might not have caught the joke in their son's name when coming up with it.
When contacted for a response, Mrs. Pama replied, "We named him after my grandfather, and unfortunately for Darren, neither of us were big cheese fans, so we put his name on the birth certificate only a few letters off from Parmesan."
"I don't remember many specifics about the jabs, they were so long ago," continued Darren, "but I knew I couldn't take them any more sometime around Third Grade. I changed my name as soon as I was able to, and have done my best to leave behind that part of my life."
"Besides, none of the immature kids who bullied me were anywhere near good enough to play in the DSFL, so I can at least hold my head high on that bit."
Darren Pama wishes to make his name known far and wide, as his new name.
"All I can do at this point is hope I'm good enough to get drafted."
