Sheed Thebaw - Defensive Tackle - University of Wisconsin–Madison
Ht: 6'5” Wt: 300 pounds
Player Bio
The anchor of the Badgers defensive line. A few descriptions of Sheed Thebaw in the media are: Loud mouthed, trash talker, but when he hits the quarterback you can hear it from the nosebleed seats in Camp Randall Stadium. The fact the media consider his on field play to outshine his on field trash talk is a testament to how hard this kid plays ball. His nickname around Madison campus is “The Unblockable Situation” and classmates around the quad often imitate his trademark sack celebration: “Toe Tag, Body Bag!”. In his final season at Wisconsin, he registered 48 tackles (19 TFL and 16.5 sacks). 3 forced fumbles and 1 interception.
Thebaw may be outspoken on the field, but he backs it up with incredible pass rush and strong run defense. Thebaw is around the average size for a defensive tackle but has the ability to transition inside to Nose and outside to End due to his raw strength, determination and quickness. He has an excellent first step off the football which allows him to slip past the offensive line and into the backfield. Thebaw has extremely quick hands that serve him well when he attempts to keep blockers off his frame. The combination of his quick hands and first step allow him to shoot gaps and create pressure.
Overview
Thebaw is a true 3 down defensive tackle, with the flexibility to play in most schemes and in most positions, but his frame and quickness suggests he would be best suited to a 3-technique in a 4-3 system. He is hard to move out the hole for interior offensive linemen on run defense, despite sometimes being late to locate the football and recognise the play, but he also has the quickness to get into the backfield on 3rd and 4th down situations.
Strengths
- Versatility across the defensive line
- Strength in the hole
- Quickness and first step to slip by defenders
- Determination to chase the play sideline to sideline
Weaknesses
- He struggles to employ an effective bull rush because he doesn't consistently get inside hand placement.
- Can get caught going upfield and find himself out of the play
- Locating the football and ball carrier early enough to impact every play
