Mark Chapman (BBC) -Looking Ahead to the new season I am sitting here with one of the recent British prospects, who is trying to earn a place in the DSFL league, Owen Isaac. So, Owen how are you handling the process?
Owen Isaac - Thanks Mark, I’m buzzing to be honest, this is the reason I went over to the US to try and earn my spot in the DSFL/ISFL.
MC – You have been playing and learning over at Houston for the last few years, what influenced your decision to go over to America and try your hand at American Football.
OI – Well for me, I mainly grew up playing rugby so have always enjoyed the physical sports and the clashes that come with it. When I was playing at Secondary School, our Rugby coach was an American, he was always trying to persuade a few of us to try out at one of the few American Football sides. Basically, from there just fell in love with the sport, and earned an opportunity to go over to the US on a scholarship, I had to jump at the opportunity really.
MC – Your looking to play along the Defensive Line, what made you decide on this position?
OI – Ah, that was one of the easiest decisions man, I am a large guy and enjoy my time in the gym, but for me the best part of rugby growing up was hitting someone, now in Football, its my job to get my head up and smack the opposing QB. The fight to get through with the O-line man. Love the contest.
MC – What is it you have learned over your time in Houston maybe you did not realise before going?
OI – Definitely nuance, I mean size and speed are great when trying to beat your o-line man, but it is a game of chess at time, you are trying to read each other and then react, the nuance of all this will be massive for me going forward.
MC – What are your ambitions going forward?
OI – Hey look Ive got to earn my place on a team first, but I guarantee if someone is willing to give me the opportunity, they wont regret it. I want to drive my team and teammates forward and win championships. It is a Team sport and I want to be a leading part of that.
MC – Thanks Owen for joining us today, I look forward to seeing how things go for you and I am sure we will speak again as the season develops.
