The Myrtle Beach Buccaneers have held their name since being re-branded from the Palm Beach Solar Bears back in Season 18. While Season 18 was not the first season of the franchise, it was the first season under their new identity and therefore only seasons 18 through 23 will be accounted for when discussing the all-time career and season records for the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. While this does leave a bit of the history of the previous Palm Beach Solar Bears, it was also a team that had a back and forth history in the DSFL being a team of BOTs at points in time. We are here to honor the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers and to grow that history within the team.
Today, we look at the all-time passing records for the Bucs over the course of the last six seasons and take aim at viewing the career records as well as the season records. With the short 6-year history of the Myrtle Beach team, the options are limited but it does give us some to work with. We will also compare these statistics to the DSFL averages over the past six seasons as well to try and get a barometer of how the Bucs' passers are doing especially in a league where passing has never been at the forefront of things, at least, most of the time.
Career Pass Completions:
1. Chris Ramos - 585 Completions (Seasons 20 through 23)
2. Brock Phoenix - 235 Completions (Season 19)
3. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 221 Completions (Season 18)
4. Joseph Joestar - 124 Completions (Season 23)
5. Tom Sofa - 11 Completions (Season 21)
Seasonal Pass Completions:
1. Brock Phoenix - 235 Completions (Season 19)
2. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 221 Completions (Season 18)
3. Chris Ramos - 182 Completions (Season 22)
4. Chris Ramos - 169 Completions (Season 20)
5. Chris Ramos - 158 Completions (Season 21)
Average Completions per Team in DSFL Seasons 18-23: 209 Completions
We can see here for the most part, Myrtle Beach has been below the average number of completions in the DSFL over the past 6 seasons. Most of this is due to the heavy prevalence of quarterback, Chris Ramos, who was known as more of a running quarterback in his time. The early days of the Buccaneers saw the team try and be more of a passing team, even in year one with a running quarterback Deondre Thomas-Fox who is actually a wide receiver now in the ISFL. The team had a change of identity under Ramos and it seemed to have worked as Ramos, in his 3rd most completion season ever, had led the Bucs to an Ultimini title in Season 21.
Career Pass Attempts:
1. Chris Ramos - 1118 Attempts (Seasons 20 through 23)
2. Brock Phoenix - 412 Attempts (Season 19)
3. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 390 Attempts (Season 18)
4. Joseph Joestar - 262 Attempts (Season 23)
5. Tom Sofa - 17 Attempts (Season 21)
Seasonal Pass Attempts:
1. Brock Phoenix - 412 Attempts (Season 19)
2. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 390 Attempts (Season 18)
3. Chris Ramos - 332 Attempts (Season 22)
4. Chris Ramos - 323 Attempts (Season 21)
5. Chris Ramos - 322 Attempts (Season 20)
Average Attempts per Team in DSFL Seasons 18-23: 383 Completions
Not too much to say here as all the records (at least the order) are the same as completions other than Ramos having more attempts in Season 21 but less completions that year and having a more efficient passing season in Season 21. The averages of course see the Bucs fall below the league average other than the first two seasons under Phoenix and Thomas-Fox. Funny enough, while not pictured, the average number of attempts in Season 18 was 401 so while Thomas-Fox broke the 6-year running average, he fell short of the Season 18 average by about 10 or 11 attempts.
Career Passing Yards:
1. Chris Ramos - 6453 (Seasons 20 through 23)
2. Brock Phoenix - 2679 (Season 19)
3. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 2441 (Season 18)
4. Joseph Joestar - 1368 (Season 23)
5. Tom Sofa - 140 (Season 21)
Seasons Passing Yards:
1. Brock Phoenix - 2679 (Season 19)
2. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 2441 (Season 19)
3. Chris Ramos - 1936 (Season 22)
4. Chris Ramos - 1899 (Season 20)
5. Chris Ramos - 1703 (Season 21)
Average Pass Yards per Team in DSFL Seasons 18-23: 2185 Yards
Again, more of volume stats here as the years with most completions ended up with the most passing yards. It is also important to note that only Phoenix was above the passing yards average for the DSFL. The quarterbacks beat the average in his respective season as well with Season 19 average being 2086 yards.
Career Completion Percentage:
1. Brock Phoenix - 57.04% (Season 19)
2. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 56.67% (Season 18)
3. Chris Ramos - 52.33% (Seasons 20 through 23)
4. Joseph Joestar - 47.33% (Season 23)
5. Tom Sofa - 64.71% (Does not qualify) (Season 21)
Seasonal Completion Percentage (Minimum 196 Pass Attempts):
1. Brock Phoenix - 57.04% (Season 19)
2. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 56.67% (Season 18)
3. Chris Ramos - 54.82 (Season 22)
4. Chris Ramos - 52.48 (Season 20)
5. Chris Ramos - 48.92 (Season 21)
Average Completion Percentage in DSFL Seasons 18-23: 54.59%
As we can see, the DSFL has not been a pass friendly league with the average completion percentage over the previous 5 seasons at a paltry 54.59%. While only Phoenix and Thomas-Fox had passed that in their career marks, Ramos added a season over the average in Season 22, however that season had the average of 56.04% so while Ramos was over the running average, he fell just short of the season completion percentage.
Career Longest Pass:
1. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 66 Yards (Season 18)
2. Chris Ramos - 49 Yards (Seasons 20 through 23)
3. Joseph Joestar - 42 Yards (Season 23)
4. Brock Phoenix - 39 Yards (Season 19)
5. Tom Sofa - 27 Yards (Season 21)
Seasonal Longest Pass:
1. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 66 Yards (Season 18)
2. Chris Ramos - 49 Yards (Season 20)
3. Joseph Joestar - 42 Yards (Season 23)
4. Chris Ramos - 42 Yards (Season 23)
5. Brock Phoenix - 39 Yards (Season 19)
Average Longest Pass in DSFL Seasons 18-23: 49.83 Yards
While it is not a very performance related record it still is interesting to look at who holds the record who for right now, is Deondre Thomas-Fox. Thomas-Fox holds the last 6 season record with his 66 yard pass back in Season 18. It is also important to note that Ramos' 49 yard pass in Season 20 was the longest of that season as well. In terms of throwing the deep ball, Myrtle Beach has done okay!
Career Passing Touchdowns:
1. Chris Ramos - 44 (Seasons 20 through 23)
2. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 13 (Season 18)
3. Brock Phoenix - 12 (Season 19)
4. Joseph Joestar - 8 (Season 23)
5. Tom Sofa - 1 (Season 21)
Seasonal Passing Touchdowns:
1. Chris Ramos - 17 (Season 22)
2. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 13 (Season 18)
3. Chris Ramos - 13 (Season 20)
4. Chris Ramos - 12 (Season 21)
5. Brock Phoenix - 12 (Season 19)
Average Touchdown Passes per team in DSFL Seasons 18-23: 11.72
There have not been many touchdown passes thrown in the DSFL as evidenced by the 11.72 touchdowns per year per team which is heavily influenced by some pretty poor performances along with a lot of average type number seasons around 10-13 touchdowns thrown. Ramos paced the league in Season 22 with 17 as the high number in which the league was at an average at 13 per team. Each season saw Myrtle Beach outpace the average in terms of touchdown passes though Thomas-Fox fell just short of the 13.67 average in Season 18.
Career Touchdown Rate:
1. Chris Ramos - 3.94% (Seasons 20 through 23)
2. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 3.33% (Season 18)
3. Joseph Joestar - 3.05% (Season 23)
4. Brock Phoenix - 2.91% (Season 19)
5. Tom Sofa - 5.88% (Did Not Qualify) (Season 21)
Seasonal Touchdown Rate:
1. Chris Ramos - 5.12% (Season 22)
2. Chris Ramos - 4.04% (Season 20)
3. Chris Ramos - 3.72% (Season 21)
4. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 3.33% (Season 18)
5. Joseph Joestar - 3.05% (Season 23)
Average Touchdown Rate in DSFL Seasons 18-23: 3.07%
For those who don't know, touchdown rate is the statistic that measures how many touchdowns is thrown per pass. It is a good stat to see which quarterbacks are throwing for scores without taking volume stats into account. While Ramos was not up there in seasonal stats for most of the volume statistics, the efficiency stat of touchdown rate loves what Ramos did during his time as he threw a good number of touchdowns even with a smaller volume than guys such as Phoenix or Thomas-Fox. Both Ramos and Thomas-Fox outpaced the league average here and youngster Joestar was around that mark so it is exciting to see how his career progresses with a chance to overtake that average mark.
Career Interceptions Thrown:
1. Chris Ramos - 39 Interceptions (Seasons 20 through 23)
2. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 15 Inteceptions (Season 18)
3. Prock Phoenix - 13 Inteceptions (Season 19)
4. Joseph Joestar - 4 Interceptions (Season 23)
5. Tom Sofa - 0 Interceptions (Seaosn 21)
Seasonal Interceptions Thrown:
1. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 15 Interceptions (Season 18)
2. Chris Ramos - 14 Interceptions (Season 20)
3. Brock Phoenix - 13 Interceptions (Season 19)
4. Chris Ramos - 13 Interceptions (Season 22)
5. Chris Ramos - 10 Interceptions (Season 21)
Average Touchdown Passes per team in DSFL Seasons 18-23: 11.24
Mostly a volume stat here but the important notes to take from these here are that Ramos had his least interceptions in Season 21 when Myrtle Beach won the Ultimini and also how Phoenix has less interceptions than Thomas-Fox even with more career attempts. Myrtle Beach had 4 of their 6 seasons with above average interceptions thrown by their quarterback.
Lowest Career Interception Rate:
1. Joseph Joestar - 1.53% (Season 23)
2. Brock Phoenix - 3.16% (Season 19)
3. Chris Ramos - 3.49% (Seasons 20 through 23)
4. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 3.85% (Season 18)
5. Tom Sofa - 0.00% (Did Not Qualify) (Season 21)
Lowest Seasonal Interception Rate:
1. Joseph Joestar - 1.53% (Season 23)
2. Chris Ramos - 3.10% (Season 21)
3. Brock Phoenix - 3.16% (Season 19)
4. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 3.85% (Season 18)
5. Chris Ramos - 3.92% (Season 22)
Average Interception Rate in DSFL Seasons 18-23: 2.92%
While the overall interception rate in the DSFL was a bit lower than the touchdown rate we calculated earlier, Myrtle Beach has most of their seasonal or career numbers above the average rate. Joestar did not throw much but did throw enough to qualify as he threw at least 196 passes on the season and he did not disappoint. One thing of note is that Ramos had his best interception rate in season 21 when the Bucs won the Ultimini which shows efficiency can lead to great things.
Career Passer Rating:
1. Brock Phoenix - 73.3 (Season 19)
2. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 70.5 (Season 18)
3. Chris Ramos - 68.3 (Seasons 20 through 23)
4. Joseph Joestar - 67.1 (Season 23)
5. Tom Sofa - 109.9 (Did Not Qualify) (Season 21)
Seasonal Passer Rating:
1. Brock Phoenix - 73.3 (Season 19)
2. Chris Ramos - 72.8 (Season 22)
3. Deondre Thomas-Fox - 70.5 (Season 18)
4. Joseph Joestar - 67.1 (Season 23)
5. Chris Ramos - 65.7 (Season 20)
Average Passer Rating in DSFL Seasons 18-23: 69.35
Again, another stat that shows that quarterbacking in the DSFL is just flat out not easy with an average passer rating below 70 sitting at 69.35. What we also see a bit here is that it seems that passer rating is highly influenced by QB volume stats as well as Phoenix and Thomas-Fox finished higher due to having more stats in general rather than have better efficiency stats.
While I did compile a few extra records, they are not going to be pictured because I ran out of time to write this.
I also compiled yards per completion, yards per attempt, adjusted yards per attempt, times a quarterback was sacked along with sack rate and the final one was QB wins.
I hope you enjoyed this and I hope for any young QBs out there, you will strive to top these lists one day to be considered the best Myrtle Beach quarterback in the Buccaneers' history!
