Ragnar sat down in front of the TV with his family. He returned home from Norfolk a few days ago and is in celebration mode - recently being part of the Ultimini champion Seawolves run, the party started and he brought it to Sweden.
5 teams in total reached out to Krash, and probably a few more poking around in the Seawolves locker room, but in all honestly Ragnar had absolutely 0 idea where he would go. Scouting was strange. "Do you want to be sent back for another season?" was a question in common. That's a tough one to answer Krashwagen thought. On one hand absolutely not. You want to play in the ISFL, that's where the league is, that's where the best players are and that's the one that everyone wants to get to. On the other hand, Norfolk just won their first ever championship and the team is looking in good shape for a strong follow up season. One could also make the argument that Ragnar has already won the Ultimini, there is no better time to go out than on top.
Honestly, it's a toss up. It will be up to the team that drafts me Krash told scout after scout. I want to go up, but if there's no room to break into the lineup, then I'll have to pay my dues and do my best to develop and be ready for the next season.
One concern that Ragnar had was the pressure of being drafted too early. You want to go to somewhere that wants you, of course, but the pressure to grow with the rest of the top of the class has been known to break people under the pressure, and he's used to being an underdog. He comes from a country that is not known for Football players (at least of the American variety), and thrives in low expectation situations. He wants to come in to a team, not be this whispered prodigy that the team is going to live and die off of. Other people can be that guy, Krash is going to come in and preform pretty well, and cement his legacy as a fan favorite who gave everything on the field.
As the draft started to go, and comissioner Bex was at a makeshift podium announcing the picks in this Covid straddled world, fellow rookies of the S54 class started to get called. People that he had played with, and against started finding their new homes. The first Tight End of the draft went 22 overall to Orange County - "Well I guess that's down to 4 teams now" Ragnar mutters under his breath. Orange County was one of the teams that scouted him pretty heavily, and one that he would have been interested in suiting up with, but looks like he was their backup plan. "Glad that they were able to get their guy, who knows, maybe I'll be the next Tight End".
A few more picks to end off the second round and now the start of the third. There was a commercial break and Ragnar got some Moose Steaks out of the fridge and went outside to the BBQ. Turning on the TV outdoors at his childhood home he realized that the first pick of round 3 was in and it was QB Charlemagne Cortez - the fourth Quarterback off the board. Then it was Rickie Vaughne, a fellow teammate and champion with Norfolk going to San Jose. Smiling to himself, Ragnar remembered those long practices where they would line up main offense vs main defense and depending on the route Rickie seemed to be the one at the end of the play more times than not.
"Moving on to pick 27 for Honolulu - They will select... Ragnar Krashwagen"
Krash looked up from his steaks
"Wow.. I don't know what I was expecting, but this wasn't it"
He looked up at the graphic on the TV of him wearing gold and blue of Honolulu, and really liked the look of it. His cell phone started ringing - It was the team
"Hey Krash, how are you doing"
"Not bad, just trying to make some late night supper, but you guys seem to have driven some of my attention away"
"Well we're really happy to have you with the team, we liked what we saw in your interviews, and you were a force this last season on the field, definitely looking forward to getting you into our colors. If we get you a plane ticket, when do you think you would like to come for a visit?"
"Hell, give me 3 days to say my goodbyes and pack up again and I'll be on my way! Can't wait to see Hawaii, I've seen pictures of course, but have never been"
"Allright, 3 days consider it done. We'll get you on a flight from Stockholm to LA, and then from there right to Honolulu. See you in 5 days! Get some sleep if you can, because we want that championship party coming straight into a luau for all the rookies!"
"I can't wait, see you then"
Krash looked around the quiet yard, at his mother and father who were beaming with proud faces. His dad handed him a beer and cracked it.
This party isn't stopping until I wake up in a hospital bed or in jail. Get Ready Hawaii!
