Interviewer: Hello everyone to our Post Game coverage of the first two weeks of the Prospect Bowl. We are now here with Guy Fields of the Brooklyn Atlantics which lost their first two games against the Tumbleweeds. Tell us Guy, how did your first time in the big leagues feel?
Guy Fields: Thank you for having me. It felt good. I felt like I was ready and I was pretty sad that we did not deliver and disappointed our coach. That doesn’t feel good, but to be honest, it’s part of the game as well. You can’t always win and learning to deal with a tough loss and bounce back is what makes a great player out of a good one.
I: How did you feel about your performance?
G: I felt good before the game and I felt like bonded as a team. I sure was able to make some important tackles, and a lot of good things happened on the field. But sadly, in the end, the other team scored more which means they won. I sure could’ve done more at a lot of points in the game. Especially in the third quarter of game one I had a lot of chances to get some sacks and just did not follow through which meant they were able to score.
I: You were pretty close to that Interception once, do you remember the play?
G: Oh it was just a bang-bang play and sadly I was just a little bit too slow to beat the receiver to it so it ended up being a tackle instead of the INT. I would have loved to grab it since from what i remember I had a perfect running lane, which could have ended in a Pick Six which would have helped us immensely. I will surely work on this part more, this game has opened my eyes to some of my shortcomings.
I: What did the General Manager say to you after the games in the locker room?
G: He took full responsibility, which I don’t totally agree with. It’s a team sport, we all need to deliver, even if in the end it falls back to the coach, every single person on the team needs to perform to get the results we want.
I: We just got in the stats, you were the tackle leader in both games, what do you think about that?
G: Oh, interesting. Of course it means a lot to me that I performed well, although I want to be better and in the end, the stats don’t matter as much as results to me, but it feels good that I have performed well under the circumstances.
I: What do you think of the format of the prospect bowl? Is there something you would want to change about it?
G: I like the general format a lot. It gives the rookies a chance to get to know the league and the trade. And it’s a big change from college to the big stage where they are much more in the spotlight. Generally I wish we had more time to prepare and train so we could be our best, it reminds me a lot of the ProBowl format where the teams do not have that much time to work on how to form a coherent team, but it’s a great initial way to show what we are capable of as rookies in the league.
I: What is the plan for next week, how do you plan to recover from these losses?
G: That’s the main question I think. We now have to sit down together and analyze the outcome. Watch some film and develop a strategy for next week. The position groups now have more time to work on their up and downsides so we know much more what we have than we had before this games.
I: Will the fact that there’s now film on the other teams help your strategies as well?
G: In the end our playbook is decided on by the GM, but we sure have film on them now and things are much less an unknown than they were before, so we will know what we can expect in our future games. But the thing to be aware of is that our competitors now also have film on us and can react better to our strengths and will try to use that against us for sure.
I: So what do you say to your next games’ competition?
G: I think we play the Llamas and the Drifters next. I don’t know the outcomes of their games yet, but I can tell them that they have not seen fully what I can do yet and I will only get better with each game!
I: Thank you so much for taking the time Guy, I wish you best of luck in the future games!
G: It was my pleasure, See you soon. To the sea!
