Prospect Bowl – Power Rankings Week 3 & 4
What a crazy couple weeks we had in the Prospect Bowl. The only thing that stayed consistent were the Drifters didn’t win a game and the Tumbleweeds couldn’t put any points on the board. The regular season is closed out and we have nothing but the playoffs to look forward to tonight. It was a fun season and I can’t wait to see where the prospects end up this Thursday during the DSFL draft.
6) Tokyo Drifters (0-4)
I thought this team was due to get back to .500 after weeks 3 & 4, boy was I wrong. The team showed up in it’s week 3 matchup against Calgary narrowly losing by 3 but then were outplayed easily by Brooklyn in week 4. Jackie Daytona continued to play well but the offense couldn’t put up enough points to win a game. This team is dead last going into the playoffs and towards the bottom of most statistics. Can they get some motivation during practice this week to make it competitive? It’s going to take a lot as they’re heading against one of the top offenses in the league in Liverpool.
Next game: @Liverpool Llamas (2-2) Want to pick the upset but going to give Liverpool the nod in this game 20-13.
5) Brooklyn Atlantics (2-2)
We have a logjam of teams at 2-2. Brooklyn showed up for their week 3 & 4 games winning back to back games by two scores each. The defense and special teams were the reason for the win against Liverpool and Quarterback Matt Peterson led the team to a victory over Tokyo with a pair of touchdown passes. This team is peaking at the right time after taking a lot of heat during weeks 1 & 2 of the Prospect Bowl. They could be dangerous in the playoffs and look to get over their Mount Everest in Round 1 against Amarillo. I think they could make a run and win the Prospect Bowl all together.
Next game: @Amarillo Tumbleweeds (2-2), against Amarillo’s shoddy offense I think Brooklyn wins a low scoring contest 13-6.
4) Amarillo Tumbleweeds (2-2)
In the biggest fall from grace Amarillo’s offensive woes finally caught up to them. Amarillo was only able to muster up 9 points total between weeks 3 & 4. A lone field goal against Tiburon where the defense was able to hold the #1 offense to 17 points. The defense showed up again against Calgary holding them to 14 points but were only able to score two field goals. The team is backing into the playoffs on a two game losing streak and I don’t expect them to get out of the first round. The only reason they’re getting the nod over Brooklyn is the fact that they beat them in back to back weeks.
Next game: Brooklyn Atlantics (2-2), see above, predict a low scoring game where Brooklyn squeezes by with a victory 13-6.
3) Liverpool Llamas (2-2)
Liverpool had a rough showing in Week 3 against the hottest team in the league Brooklyn giving up 26 points while only scoring 14. It must have been motivation as in Week 4 the Llamas took it to Tiburon putting up 33 points while holding the Landsharks offense to 17 points. The run game is very strong and might give them the boost they need to get through the playoffs. Watch out for Liverpool!
Next game: Tokyo Drifters (0-4) Taking on the worst team in the Prospect Bowl, I expect them to win without too much trouble 20-13.
2) Calgary Calvary (3-1)
This team is a shaky number 2. They did win the West but didn’t look pretty doing it. They have the lowest points total in the league at 45 and are middle of the pack in defense. They squeaked by the winless Drifters with a 16-13 victory in week 3 and held the lethargic Amarillo offense to 6 points in week 4. Calgary is a sack factor with the End Duo of Crozier McCoy and Sack Daddy. They secured the bye and either take on Tokyo or Liverpool. Will the bye give them an easy road to the championship game or will they be rusty after taking the week off?
Next game: Winner of Tokyo Drifters @ Liverpool Llamas.
1) Tiburon Landsharks (3-1)
So close to being perfect the team started off 3-0 by holding Amarillo to 3 points in week 3. Tiburon was favored to beat Liverpool but got stomped by 33-17 in week 4. Holloway was kept in check in both games but still had a great Prospect Bowl. This team is still the favorite to take it all as they were able to secure a first round bye. I don’t see them having too much trouble with them either facing the uneven Brooklyn Atlantics or the offensively challenged Amarillo Tumbleweeds. I expect them to represent the East in the Championship game.
