The Colorado Yeti had a phenomenal showing at their first game of the season, but surprisingly absent were two “important” players to the Yeti team - Adelie de Pengu and Mo Magic. When reached for comment about why the two players were missing, it was made very clear that it was unplanned and the Yeti GMs and owner were as surprised as anyone. Digging into the situation deeper, however, has revealed some interesting insights into these two players.
The newest Yeti member, Adelie de Pengu was just recently signed through Free Agency. De Pengu was about to be called up from the Norfolk Seawolves to the New Orleans Second Line this season, but in an interesting change of pace, decided to leave the home that he had known, and had been raised learning about from Bjorn Ironside, in pursuit of shinier pebbles. As de Pengu continued his search, he wandered into the Colorado snow, and came across the Yeti. After heavy discussions and deliberations, de Pengu decided to settle on joining the Yeti for the next few seasons.
This is what makes his absence from the game all the stranger - after two long seasons with Norfolk (yes they had an Ultimini win… but still, it’s the DSFL, who actually cares?) de Pengu would finally be able to compete with the big boys. But instead of allowing himself that opportunity, he decided to skip preseason and the opening game of the season. With further research, however, it has been revealed that de Pengu has been suffering a bout of bird flu, and has quarantined himself in his home with teammate Melvin Murder-Moose. It is unclear why Murder-Moose seems unable to catch the bird flu from de Pengu, or if he just doesn’t care, but either way, the two have been housed up playing a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that de Pengu had started with former mentor Bjorn Ironside and former teammate Daria Guava-Fresca (may she rest in peace). When asked if de Pengu would be ready for next week’s games, there was uncertainty in the Yeti GMs responses.
Additionally, member Mo Magic was conveniently absent, and while he has claimed that this is due to an important Mo and Mo luncheon, it does not make sense that former Yeti legend Mo Berry would allow his teammate to miss such an important game.
The one piece that is clear through all of this is that even without these two monsters on the field, the Yeti are a terrifying team. Hopefully in week two all members of the Yeti team will be available and on the field, and then the ISFL can truly see the terror bird unleashed.
