It's been a while since I have done one of these, and i'm not going to a fool you, a big reason is because like drunk Bart Simpson, i'm all out of money. So while i'm here for all your entertainment I might as well pass on some of the great information I have learned in the past few weeks. Starting with...
Strength is really important....like.....really really important.
Alright, alright, I know if you're reading this and you have experience on the defensive line in the sim engine you're currently giving the biggest, "well duh," right now but hear me out. I write these as a new player and write things I wish I would have been told before actually going through it and seeing why its right. Okay, so full disclosure, as someone new to the league and not knowing how the sim engine worked i'm not going to lie....I thought strength was overrated. I aimed for a base stat attribute of 70-70-70 in strength, speed, and agility and overall, I am happy with that. However, it wasn't until I got my strength beyond 70 before I started seeing the brilliance in what I created. Now for all the newer players who are going through the DFSL pre-draft process let me explain why it works. So each team gets to set their own bot offensive lineman usually in the interior and most of the time users are in the exterior. So when a play happens one of things that is tested...so I've been told by people way smarter then me, is your strength as an interior defensive lineman is tested vs the strength of the bot offensive lineman. Most GMs set these bots strength in the mid-high 70s, I think I saw someone at 80. If you can get your strength above that threshold you can, in a lot of instances in the sim, bully the bot offensive lineman essentially creating more opportunities for your player to be in a game event, like a sack TFL, etc. So as my strength climbs higher and higher and higher, my naturally faster speed and agility will put me into more plays, as i'll be able to break my assignment more often the higher my strength is. So for those new and creating your player allow me to state, strength is important, especially if you plan on being on the defensive line, invest in it. Which leads to me my next point.
I finally started producing stats in the DFSL, yay!
So as a natural follow up to explaining why I found strength was very important and I was very wrong to think it was over rated in the early stages this is a natural follow up. I started producing stats, specifically, sacks and the Pythons defense appears to be clicking. Depending on when I decide to post this we just came up with two huge wins where the Pythons defense looked scary, like scary scary and I finally started producing tackles on that defensive line that is filled with talent. I just love being on this team and the story of being the team with the worst record in the league to being in contention for playoffs is just a very exciting story to be part of. I just love the energy the guys in the locker room give and we just keep producing we keep earning and like I told the locker room at the start of the season if we just do what we need to do and keep earning we will be a scary team late in the season and that appears to be manifesting itself. I can't state it enough, I love being on this team.
I don't think I did anything too crazy in a few weeks.
For most people this is the norm, but for me it appears like the growing pains and just general missteps were numerous and noteworthy, however recently I can't think of anything where I did something on this website or made a mistake and thought, "yeah, that was pretty dumb," so here's usually where that story would go but unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, I don't have one of those!
The ISFL draft process started for me already
While I won't disclose who contacted me or the details of our conversation I must say, I didn't expect the ISFL scouting process to start for me already, but it has. I must say I was not too happy with how I responded so you know who you are, sorry I didn't exactly make the process easy for you, thank you for your patience you're the best! I am certain now more then every now though, I definitely am committing to wanting to have a 1+1 contract kinda of structure, the more I think about it the more it makes sense to me and the more I can continue to write funny stories about my experiences.
I had a bit more slated but I think I will save that for another article at a later date, its been fun writing this, have a good day everyone and don't make the same mistakes I do!
Ready to grade......yo.
