So for fun, I am going to make a mock draft for the next season of the ISFL. I don't know the draft order, so instead of picking who goes to which team, I will just guess the order of the picks. It wont be accurate, but I think it will be a fun look at who is active and productive, plus what positions are valued where.
Round One :
Round One Pick One : Tex Wrecks (Tijuana Luchadores) Defensive End
Hard to know what position will go to the first pick over all, but this dude is a monster. Leader in the class for TPE and an all around great locker room presence. Any one who does their research will have to consider this guy somewhere in the first round. If he drops past the first, then whatever team gets him will be getting the best bargain of all times. Currently sitting at thirty two tackles and fourteen for a loss and also two sacks. Stats are not really a good indicator of who will succeed at the level as it is about the long term growth that matters. He has already proven he is up to the challenge of earning max TPE. Dude has earned 238 TPE as of last update. I don't think there is an argument unless you just do not need or want him for some weird reason.
Round One Pick Two : Goat Tank (Myrtle Beach Buccaneers) Defensive Tackle
Another defensive player taken at the top. No real surprise here, this guy is another monster. He is sitting on 236 TPE, only two behind my number over all pick, You could probable argue for either one of these guys at the top. I just happen to know Tex Wrecks better as we share a locker room, so for me I have him rated slightly higher based off of personality. That being said, I have nothing against Goat Tank, I actually enjoy his mindless tweets of Goat Tank! Another solid starter who has shown he can produce high levels of TPE over the course of a season. He currently has thirty three tackles with one going for a loss and four sacks. Solid stats for a lineman, but again not really worth considering for a long term player.
Round One Pick Three : Dukburg Quakstak (Norfolk Seawolves) Corner Back
Wow, look at that another defensive player. Well from looking at old drafts, it seems defense goes first. He is the highest earning defensive back at the moment, now that could change before the draft. He is sitting on 221 TPE as of the last update, which is not too far behind the top two guys, but it explains why he is a distant third as far as draft position goes. I do not know anything about his personality, so I can only comment on his stats, position and TPE earning. He has twenty nine tackles with one interception and five pass disruptions. Not sure the opposing throws at him all that often, so again stats can be miss leading at this stage of someone's career. Solid draft choice if he stays active.
Round One Pick Four : Donald McBobby (Portland Pythons) Line Backer
Yea, I know, another freaking defensive player, but he is the first line backer off the board. So at least he is a different position. Another really high earner and I assume quite active member of his locker room at least. I do not have any inside information into his character or the type of locker room mate he is, but based off position and TPE, he good. Total TPE as of last weeks update is 220, putting him fifth overall in TPE. His stats are fifty seven tackles with one going for a loss, also managing five sacks, one interception and three pass disruptions. Pretty good stats for a rookie, should translate well into the big leagues.
Round One Pick Five : Hank Winchester (Myrtle Beach Buccaneers) Line Backer
Yup, more defense. It is what it is, people need to stop these offensive monsters somehow, so you keep drafting defense hoping they work out. Our second Line backer off the board, another really good earner who appears to be active. Currently sitting at 216 TPE, putting him sixth over all, and second among all linebackers in this draft. He has seventy four tackles, four of them for a loss, one sack and two pass breakups so far. Really good stats for a rookie line backer, actually higher tackles than the draftee above him, but this is more about activity and earning potential. Picking the second highest earning line backer at fifth over all isn't a bad thing.
Round One Pick Six : Davriel Lavigne (Portland Pythons) Safety
Finally our first safety off the board at six over all. Safeties are an important position to have a quality earner in for the long term. He is the eighth highest earner as of the last update last week. Clearly he likes his TPE and appears to be quite active over all with 214 at the moment. If he actually goes at this position will be determined by who has the pick and if they actually need a safety. His stats are forty three tackles with two picks and four pass disruptions playing at the strong safety position. Another day, another high TPE defensive player getting drafted before any team even looks at an offensive player.
Round One Pick Seven : Terry Tate (Tijuana Luchadores) Line Backer
Our third line backer in the first seven picks, either I like line backers, or the people who make line backers are just active and crazy. I actually like Tate a little higher than this, but I am not a general manager, so I am guessing where he will go. Great player, great guy in the locker room, dedicated to earning that TPE and improving himself. You really can not go wrong with this guy, he is at 212 TPE and plays great. His stats are thirty eight tackles with two being losses, but where he shines is his eight sacks! The man can find the quarterback and destroy him time and time again. And on his way to the quarterback he also managed six pass break ups. All in all, great player at the line backer position and any team will be happy to get him in their locker room.
Round One Pick Eight : Dave Batista (Portland Pythons) Tight End
Oh my goodness, finally an offensive player off the damned board! The top earning tight end in the league and the second highest offensive player in the draft pool. He is seventh over all with 215 TPE as of last sunday. Great player with a large amount of earning potential, clearly active as well, and historically it seems tight ends go fairly high, so that with his earning, I have him tops for offense. His stats are thirty one receptions for 238 yards with three touchdowns. He is technically listed as a full back on the index sheet, but his position is listed as tight end in the other area. He also has fourteen pancakes as a tight end, so he is not afraid to block for his team. Could end up being a really good pick up for any team with a need at tight end.
Round One Pick Nine : Mike Rotchburns (Minnesota Grey Ducks) Running Back
What? Another offensive player going back to back in the first round? Yea, it seems running backs can go pretty early in the draft as well. He is the third highest earning for TPE on the offensive side of the ball with 211 total. Good number, showing he is committed and active, and that puts him at tenth over all, going at ninth over all. Again, do not know the fellow, I am sure he is a wonderful guy who offers his locker mates massages when their muscles are sore. But his stats are 144 carries for 682 yards as a rookie, averaging four point seven yards a carry with five touchdowns. Solid numbers, should be a good pick up for a team who has a need either next season or in the next couple of seasons. Not my favorite running back in the draft, but I may be slightly biased (or a lot biased).
Round One Pick Ten : Rich Triplet (Tijuana Luchadores) Corner Back
This is a bit of a homer pick. I just really like this guy. He is an amazing locker room presence, always willing to help out, good at encouraging others around him to do better and giving them props when they do well. He is a high earner, sitting at 201 total, he is going to be a long term high end earner for sure, I also know this guy has recruited a few of his buddies to join up as well. Also, he plays super well on the field, he got put out their right away as one of our top corners, meaning he has to face off against the other teams number one. He has thirty tackles with one pick and seven pass disruptions, remember this is all against the other teams number one. Solid stats and he will be a star at the next level for sure. The fact he is dropping this far would actually be crazy.
Round One Pick Eleven : Medicinal Toblerone (Myrtle Beach Buccaneers) Offensive Line Man
Finally a hog molly off the board. Only took eleven picks to get here. Now historically, it seems they do not go that high, but this guy is the third highest earner so far and the number one offensive earner with 222. So, whether it is historically a pick someone would make or not, he has the stats right now to justify this pick, plus you gotta remember there are two expansion teams out there soaking up some players. I assume he is active and spending his free time eating anything and every thing he can find, including but not limited to all types of candy, actual whole hogs, baby lambs and of course the moo cows. His stats are pretty solid for a rookie with nineteen pancakes and two sacks allowed, but luckily the stats are not that important, as it could just be he is bad at initial builds or just unlucky because the sim hates his name, honestly I am not sure.
Round One Pick Twelve : Raylan Crowder (Dallas Birddogs) Defensive End
Our second defensive end off the board at pick twelve. Dallas' first player drafted. I feel like quality defensive ends are hard to find. So when there are two near the top of the draftees earning board, you got to go grab them. I am sure he is a nice guy and maybe even a good locker room dude, but he does play for Dallas so hard to really say much good about him. He does have 204 TPE and he has the twelve most of all players. His stats are twenty eight tackles, three for a loss and two sacks, not top of the board as a rookie, but solid anyways. But, I do believe in general, long term activity and locker room fit is what matters. Should be a good pick up for a team wanting a starting defensive end for a while.
Round One Pick Thirteen : Harley Fank (Norfolk Seawolves) Wide Receiver
About time some body freaking takes a wide receiver. Historically they late in the draft compared to well every defensive position ever. But this guy has the most TPE of all wide receivers, so I had to give him some love, he also has the eleventh most TPE of everyone in this draft class. So a high earning wide out, who might be active for many seasons, yea seems like a pretty safe pick this late in the first round. He also plays very well for a rookie with thirty catches for 292 yards for an average of nine point seven yards and three touchdowns. So at pick thirteen you are getting a potential long term stud at wide receiver, while I understand other positions are more "important", a top tier earner at any position has to be helpful! Seems like a solid pick here
Round One Pick Fourteen : Dan Foster (Portland Pythons) Corner Back
Fourteen picks and already our third corner back off the board and our fourth defensive back off the board. Important position to have depth at, as you need them to match up across from wide outs and tight ends and possibly even running backs coming out of the back field. Pretty sure you can never have too many quality defensive backs on your team. Another high earning, appears to be active guy. I'm sure he is a hoot in the locker room, running around snapping people with his towel yelling YOLO! But he does have 201 TPE, tied for third most as a corner back and tied for thirteenth most overall. He has forty tackles with one pick and nine pass disruptions, so while he is not currently coming down with the ball, he stops the receiver from catching it. Good play, one of the top corner backs in the draft.
So that covers the first round of the draft. The only teams to not get a player drafted in the first round are the Kansas City Coyotes and the London Royals. As expected, most of the players taken are on the defensive side of the ball with ten defensive players drafted and only four offensive players. There were no kickers taken at all, and of the offensive players, only one each of the four players. Granted, there are more defensive players in the top 15 TPE players than offense with eleven defense to four offense. Apparently people who are going to be super tier earners tend to flock to the defensive side of the ball, or at least for this particular season. The second round might see more offensive players drafted with quite a few more players on that side in the next ten players.
The biggest thing will be who has which picks in the draft and then of course who trades back to get more later picks, as this draft is rather loaded throughout. In the end, a few TPE from some one's rookie season is not going to matter compared to multiple seasons of max earning throughout their career. So, some of us who messed up at the beginning but have become good earners, won't show how good we will become until a few seasons later when we catch and pass some of these guys who taper off.
Anyways, there are tons of good players that will get drafted. I will do a breakdown of the some of the later rounds either later this week or next week sometimes. That way, some of us lower end guys can see our names in an article and feel good like. So do not think I forgot about the later rounds. It is hard to sit down and knock out five plus round of mock drafts all at once for me. I do not have the patience one of my team mates has (he may have written a twelve thousand five hundred word article recently).
Anyways,
