[div align=\\\"center\\\"]WELCOME TO INSIDE THE NSFL[/div]
Today on a special edition of Inside The NSFL, we had an exclusive sit down with San Jose SabreCats General Manager @ckroyal92 !
What are your overall thoughts on how your draft turned out?
I think our draft went pretty well. We had a lot of holes in our lineup after last season, and I think we've done pretty well to fill those with some big names at the top of the draft & a few lesser-known commodities in the later rounds.
Which rookie do you think will have the biggest impact coming in?
Vincent Sharpei, hands down. There's a reason he was at the top of our board & we traded back up to get him. This dude's gonna be a stud in this league for a long time.
What are your thoughts on the QB situation in San Jose?
Better than it was before the draft. Everyone knows Hunt doesn't wanna be here, he's made that abundantly clear to anyone who'll listen. While he's still our best option to start for the time being, I'm confident that Christian Adams will progress enough to take over sometime this season & I'm comfortable moving forward with him as our guy after Hunt leaves.
Jack Durden is coming off a promising start to his career, but your front office selected 2 running backs in the draft. What was your reasoning behind that?
With Bowers leaving, we had to do something to fill that spot, but we also lost our backup to retirement so that meant another position would need to be filled. Between Diaz & Goose, I'm confident they'll do a fine job filling the RB2/FB spot.
With a strong offensive line bolstered by draft picks, one would assume the SabreCats will be a running team, but you also have 2 WRs with about 200 TPE. Will the SabreCats conduct an air based attack, or a strong running game? Or both?
We're trying to dig our way out of last place, so I'd rather not give too much away, but I feel like we've got enough weapons to be dangerous no matter how we setup our offensive gameplan.
What are your thoughts on the SabreCats roster? In both the short term and long term.
I think we've got a pretty well-rounded group of guys that are committed to turning this team around after a rough first season, and with the exception of Hunt, I'm hoping they'll stick around to try to stretch that into a potential dynasty.
Is there a player that you're most excited to see in the San Jose uniform? Whether it be a rookie, free agent pickup, or trade acquisition.
Easy, Jack Durden. We paid a decent price to bring him in after that two-timing weasel Bowers left us for dead. Shouldn't take long for Durden to knock him out of our record books & make our fans forget all about him.
What's your overall philosophy behind your franchise?
Here in San Jose, we're all about the greater good. Individual stat lines are nice, but we like guys that bring a team-first mentality & are willing to lay it all on the line for the man lined up next to them. We've got no tolerance for egos in our locker room.
Is there anything you learned in Season 1 that you think will help in Season 2?
The biggest thing I learned is not to panic when things start going wrong. I made a snap decision to trade for Ethan Hunt after a 1-7 start & while we went 3-3 the rest of the way, that move has backfired off the field. I guarantee I'll never make a sucker move like that again.
The San Jose defense struggled mightily last year. Do you think your acquisitions on that side of the ball will help bolster that unit? And why?
Oh yeah. We've shored up the defense big time, mostly through the draft. Guys like Charlton, Newman & Parker in addition to stalwarts like Hackett, Miller & Canton should make our defense a force to be reckoned with this season.
How do you see this upcoming season panning out for the SabreCats?
I see definite improvement coming for us this season. We may not be in the running for a championship right away, which I know my guys may not like to hear, but realistically as long as we make some progress & secure a playoff berth, I'd consider that a win for the franchise.
