Season 25 ISFL Draft Prospect Positional Breakdown – Safety
Hey there sports fans! Draft week(s) festivities are finally upon us! On Friday, September 25th we have the Season 25 ISFL Rookie Draft, which is followed up a week later with the Season 25 DSFL Draft. Due to my overflowing excitement over my first ever ISFL Draft, I am going to try and do a write-up of every position group coming into the draft.
In this edition of the positional breakdown of the Season 25 ISFL Draft, we are looking at the position with the largest active player pool: Safety
Position Stats
Active Players*: 12
*To qualify as an active player for this breakdown, the player had to have been updated in the last update of Season 24 – 9/12/2020 in the TPE Tracker
Average TPE: 198
Highest TPE: 245 (Davriel Lavigne)
Coming in with a whopping twelve active players, this year’s Safety class is one that almost every team has a chance to dip their toes into this draft. That noise you just heard as you read that? Oh, that was an audible cheer from every general manager in the ISFL. The league has seen a huge influx of active players at the safety position since season 22, with 16 currently active players coming in at an average TPE of 533. However, for the youth of the player pool, the league needs more to fill out their ranks. I project there to be some bidding wars for some of the top talent in this draft class, but honestly, teams are going to find some good quality in the later rounds out of these Safeties.
Before I get too far into these player breakdowns, I want to preface by saying these are all subjective and based on my knowledge of the players. I know that I do not know everyone in the league, their stories, or how active they really are. If I missed any information or got something wrong about a player, feel free to correct me and know it mistakes are not intentional.
The Players
Davriel Lavigne | Portland Pythons | TPE: 245 | @Raven
Coming right out of the gate we have Honolulu’s second round pick, Davriel Lavigne. Now, how do I know that Lavigne will go to the Hahalua in the second round? I must be some sort of mind reader or time traveler, right? I mean, I am super smart and all that, but, sadly, no. Due to league rules, Honolulu has to draft Lavigne with their second round pick, as user Raven is their GM. Raven is obviously a well-known user around the league who needs no introduction. I mean, I could use an introduction, though, considering Raven hasn’t scouted me yet. It’s okay, my feelings are only moderately hurt. Don’t worry about me.
Tayshawn Crunk | London Royals | TPE: 235 | @Crunk
If you’ve read any of my previous articles where I talk about specific players, you know that I have a bona fide man crush on Tayshawn Crunk the player. He turned in an absolutely stunning performance on the field this year for the Royals and helped push the team to another championship run. Crunk the player is also the top earning non-recreate safety in this entire draft, so you know he’s going to be great on the field.
Crunk the user is just as impressive, as he has been a media monster, posting 17 pieces of media, with a mixture of graphics, podcasts, and articles. His CRUNC system has revolutionized how we view team power rankings, and his podcasts are…things (I’m sorry Crunk, I haven’t had the time to listen but I’m sure they’re good!). With Lavigne already tied to Honolulu, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Crunk end up as the first Safety prospect taken in the draft.
Lionel Rumper | Dallas Birddogs | TPE: 222 | @Oneski
Rumper is another player that falls into the category of, “max TPE, not much forum use.” He’s only posted four pieces of media, which I assume was enough to make sure he was able to stay up on his training for the year. Training, I should mention, that he took every advantage of, hitting 222 TPE by the final update. Where Rumper (and user Oneski) makes his mark is on Twitter. If you aren’t following him (handle @lionelrumper), stop what you’re doing, open up Twitter, and give him a follow. His page is entertaining as all get out, and he has some very good skills writing limericks. I assume that the Birddogs’ locker room had at least weekly slam poetry sessions where Rumper dominated the mic.
NationalSimulation FootballLeague | Tijuana Luchadores | TPE: 218 | @SDCore
Okay so the more researching I’ve been doing for these articles, I’ve come to believe that there must be some sort of league-wide conspiracy against Tijuana players. First, we had Ben Alexander-Arnold, one of the OG’s of the league, getting disrespected in every mock draft, and now people are forgetting about NSFL. NSFL (I’m not typing your whole name out every time dude) is a recreate of SDCore, who has been around since Season 15. Oh, did I mention that he’s also part of the ISFL Head Office? I guess that would be important to mention, too.
You know, now that I think about it, maybe there’s nothing against the Luchadores, and really there’s a conspiracy to erase the National Simulation Football League from existence. The plot thickens.
Xmus Flaxon Jaxon-Waxon | Norfolk Seawolves |TPE: 214 | @ConnorM123
Xmus Flaxon Jaxon-Waxon, who I will refer to simply as Xmus from here on out, is another topflight Safety prospect in this class. On the field, Xmus helped lead the Seawolves to another Ultimini berth, and off the field, user ConnonM123, has made a name for himself as a fantastic graphic artist. He has submitted a ton of media in his short time in the league, and his Rookie Tickets are of the utmost quality. I have unfortunately only crossed paths with ConnorM123 a handful of times, but every time he’s come across as a helpful and all-around nice guy. I fully expect him to end up working on the media team eventually, and I’m sure whichever team ends up drafting him will be more than pleased with the work that he can do for them.
Tony Yeboah | Kansas City Coyotes |TPE: 207 | @frazzle14
Tony Yeboah’s user Frazzle14 is someone that I have not had a ton of dealings with. I’ve heard about him from teammates and seen him around in Discord, and I can tell you everyone has said good things. He ended the season breaking the 200 TPE mark by the final update, and is very active on Twitter. He has the makings of a very good player in this league for years to come. I guess he’s also part of a group of users that call themselves the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but honestly I’m just kind of confused about that part since none of them seem to represent any of the Turtles. /shrug
Bob Roberts | Dallas Birddogs |TPE: 201 | @zaynzk
So I’m about 99% sure that Dallas did their drafting this past season based solely on the player’s Twitter page. Between Rumper, Roberts, and Milk Mann (we’ll talk about him shortly) just in their secondary alone, the Birddogs definitely had the most active and creative Twitter base of all the DSFL teams. In addition to his Twitter presence, user Zayn has been fairly active on the forums for a new user, posting nine new articles in his time here. I haven’t interacted a whole lot with him, but from what I’ve seen and read he seems like a fun guy who will add personality to any locker room.
Milk Mann | Dallas Birddogs | TPE: 201 | @Bkfootball
Milk Mann is a player that I had pretty damn high hopes for after he joined the league. Right off the bat he was creating good media, submitted a solid mixture of articles and graphics. While he still is active on Twitter and keeps up on his PT tasks, his overall activity seems to have taken a hit. Then again, I’m not very active (okay not active at all) in the Birddogs locker room, so he could be a much bigger presence than I’m aware of. If you’re out there, Bkfootball, you should start creating content like you were originally!
Damian Blackfyre | Minnesota Grey Ducks | TPE: 192 | @ThunderTitan82
When I started researching Safeties for this article, I seriously had no recollection of any player named Damien Blackfyre in this draft class. After digging a little deeper, I realized it was because user ThunderTitan82 joined about two weeks later than the majority of the class, so he wasn’t part of the huge group of users I came in with. For missing out on two weeks’ worth of TPE opportunities, the guy is absolutely killing it. He’s been creating content like a machine, including his own sig shop, and his recent articles he wrote about his Ultimus All Time Tournament are superb. ThunderTitan, if you’re reading this, I’m sincerely sorry I didn’t recognize you right away. You’re going to be a household name in this league before too long, I know it! Anyone who’s lucky to snag this player is going to have a star on their hands who’s worth way more than what his TPE would make you think (even though it’s damn solid).
Steven Wadham | London Royals | TPE: 177 | @Arvot
Wadham (user Arvot) has the appearance of a user and player that pops in to do their weekly activity check and point tasks and not much else. That’s not a diss on the player or the user. To accumulate as much TPE as he has without doing any sort of media is really impressive. Arvot might have a league job that I’m not aware of, and if he does, please someone correct me. But for now, Wadham appears to me to be a solid player that a team will snatch up and send down to the DSFL for a year or two to build up his TPE. He should make a solid investment by a team that isn’t looking for immediate help at the position.
Teddy Utterstruzen | Myrtle Beach Buccaneers | TPE: 174 | @teddyoojo
Much like the player above him, Utterstruzen appears to be a player whose user prefers to stick to the weekly activity checks and point tasks to build his player up. I’m a little letdown by that, however, just because Teddy Utterstruzen is hands down one of my favorite names of all the players I’ve covered so far. Hopefully whoever drafts him can find a way to keep teddyoojo more active, because I’d love to see his player stick around the league for a while.
Brian Nelson | Norfolk Seawovles | TPE: 97 | @BenGroseclose
Last on the list we have Brian Nelson from Norfolk. Sadly, I have nothing to say about Brian nor user BenGroseclose. He created back in July with the majority of this class, but it appears that his activity levels haven’t been the highest. If anyone from Norfolk can shed some light on the player for me I’d really appreciate it!
As you can see from my write-ups here, this class of Safeties is a strong mixture of new and veteran users. I fully expect to see some of these younger players listed become stars and minor celebrities in the very near future. Hell, some of them already are!
Once again, thank you for reading. If you have any corrections or comments, please leave them below!
