Thanks for joining us as we meet the rest of the Yellowknife Wraith’s Season 25 ISFL draft class. In the last series of candid interviews, we met the players taken by the Wraiths in the first three draft rounds, and now it's time to meet the rest of the group and find out what these talented acquisitions have to say to the dedicated fans of the Yellowknife Wraiths!
Mark Walker, taken with pick number forty-three in the fourth round, is a wide receiver from Dallas, TX. Walker played college football at Baylor University. After college, Walker was drafted by the Tijuana Luchadores, where he caught 29 passes for 345 yards receiving and 3 TD. At 5 ft. 11 in. and 185 lbs., Walker will be stepping up to the ISFL this season as part of the Wraith’s talented group of wide receivers.
1. Congratulations on being drafted into the ISFL! How did it feel hearing your name called on draft night?
It was the best feeling so far in the sim. Easily bested the dsfl bc I went 6 rounds sooner.
2. Which team did you think would draft you? Were you surprised that Yellowknife was the team to pick you?
I will say I had a great conversation with fly when he reached out to me, so I wasn't too surprised, but I honestly thought I was going to an expansion team.
3. Were you surprised with where you were picked in the draft? Do you think you should have been picked higher (or lower)?
I was surprised with my spot, because of how low I went in the DSFL draft, I did not expect to go in the top three of all wide receivers. Obviously I plan on being the best wide receiver from this draft.
4. What are you most looking forward to this season?
I am looking forward to getting to be a starter my first season after being drafted.
5. Do you feel any pressure to live up to the high standards of Wraiths team?
Obviously. The legacy of the wraiths is something I will do my best to live up to.
6. What are your first impressions of the Wraiths locker room? Have any players or coaches made a particular impression on you?
So far I love it here. It reminds me a bit of the tijuana luchadores locker room. Honestly, everyone has been great, I'm just happy to be here and get to know everyone.
7. Looking beyond this season, what do you hope to accomplish in your career?
One of my main goals is to make the pro bowl multiple times, obviously a title and in the end I would love to try and make the hall of fame.
8. You have to take the stage for the rookie talent show in front of the locker room, what talent do you show off?
I am an accomplished flipper. I can do all kinds of flips on a trampolinist. Also an amazing driver of any vehicle.
9. Who would win in a fight between a baboon or a badger?
I would have to say a baboon due to its ability to move up into the tree's. Plus they are strong and throw poop.
10. When your first ISFL contract pay check comes in what's the first purchase you're going to make? Something sensible or a fancy car?
Definitely a car. Going to buy a Dodge Viper GTS. And I'll pay off my parents' houses.
With pick forty seven of the ISFL draft, Yellowknife selected defensive tackle Sheed Thebaw. Thebaw, who played college football at University of Wisconsin - Madison, hails from Burlington VT. Thebaw was drafted by the DSFL Dallas Birddogs, where he registered 39 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks in his one season there. Weighing in at 300 lbs and 6 ft. 5 in. tall, Thebaw will be lining up this upcoming season as part of the Yellowknife defensive line.
1. Congratulations on being drafted into the ISFL! How did it feel hearing your name called on draft night?
Thanks! Amazing, I honestly can't believe I went that early in the draft. Super excited to be here in Yellowknife.
2. Which team did you think would draft you? Were you surprised that Yellowknife was the team to pick you?
I wasn't thinking too much about the draft, in all honesty I wasn't even watching. I've been out in Sweden this off season in the cold training in isolation. When my agent Mitchell Thomasson phoned me, I was stoked that I landed with the Wraiths.
3. Were you surprised with where you were picked in the draft? Do you think you should have been picked higher (or lower)?
Yeah super surprised. I didn't have the impact at the Birddogs I think everyone expected me to have. I feel this is mainly because most teams offenses in the DSFL schemed away from me. But now I'm with the Wraiths, I get a chance to make the impact I know I can.
4. What are you most looking forward to this season?
Playing in this defensive unit. Coach has already called me and I've had a meeting with our DC and let me tell you, we got some stuff cooking for this season.
5. Do you feel any pressure to live up to the high standards of Wraiths team?
Yeah there's always pressure, but I thrive in that environment. Pressure makes diamonds, but you gotta be tough to handle it.
6. What are your first impressions of the Wraiths locker room? Have any players or coaches made a particular impression on you?
Everyone is super chill in the LR. Super welcoming and no doubt get to know those guys way better as the season progresses.
7. Looking beyond this season, what do you hope to accomplish in your career?
Career - damn, DPOY, DROY, multiple championships. The sky's the limit for this team, and for me. I know I'm a DT, but maybe I can break the mould.
8. You have to take the stage for the rookie talent show in front of the locker room, what talent do you show off?
I can dance. And I don't mean ballroom. I can DANCE. Get me a sheet of plywood and a boombox and I'll take everyone in the room for a spin! That's right, big man can MOVE.
9. Who would win in a fight between a baboon or a badger?
That isn't even up for debate, y'all know I played for Wisconsin right??? - Badger. Next!
10. When your first ISFL contract pay check comes in what's the first purchase you're going to make? Something sensible or a fancy car?
When that paycheck comes in, I'm gonna put it in a high interest savings account and diversify my bonds. I may be a big loud guy with bravado and smack talk on game day, but I am fiscally responsible.
Using pick 61, in the 5th round, the Wraiths selected safety Milk Mann. Mann is from Jefferson City, MO, and played football at the University of Missouri. Mann was drafted by the Dallas Birddogs of the DSFL, where he had 54 tackles and 4 sacks last season. At 6 ft. 3 in. tall and weighing 220 lbs., Mann will continue to be a part of the Dallas defensive secondary this upcoming season.
1. Congratulations on being drafted into the ISFL! How did it feel hearing your name called on draft night?
It felt great! The anticipation was killing me, so it was nice when it was finally called.
2. Which team did you think would draft you? Were you surprised that Yellowknife was the team to pick you?
With the way scouting went, I thought I was most likely going to Honolulu, Chicago, or New York, so I was pretty surprised when I found out that Yellowknife picked me. I wasn't disappointed though, YKW's branding might be my favorite in the whole league.
3. Were you surprised with where you were picked in the draft? Do you think you should have been picked higher (or lower)?
I personally thought I should have been picked a little higher, but I wasn't surprised with where I did get picked. There were a LOT of high-earning safeties in the draft.
4. What are you most looking forward to this season?
I'm probably gonna be playing in the DSFL for one more year, so I'm hoping to turn some heads in games this season. It does feel nice being drafted, knowing that I'll likely get called up sometime if I continue earning like I am.
5. Do you feel any pressure to live up to the high standards of Wraiths team?
I do feel a little bit of pressure, but I'm not necessarily overwhelmed. I feel like I'll fit in just fine once the time comes.
6. What are your first impressions of the Wraiths locker room? Have any players or coaches made a particular impression on you?
The LR is great. There's a lot of fellow S25 players that I haven't even talked to... basically ever. I do really like Fly as a GM, as he is very active and willing to get his players involved. I haven't interacted with Money as much but I can tell I'll like him just from what he said during the draft presentation. There aren't any specific players who have made an impression on me, but I do really enjoy all of their company.
7. Looking beyond this season, what do you hope to accomplish in your career?
Winning an Ultimus is an obvious one. I would like to become one of the better safeties in the league, too. HoF probably isn't in the cards for me, but I'm definitely trying to work towards it.
8. You have to take the stage for the rookie talent show in front of the locker room, what talent do you show off?
Ooh, this is a tough one. For some reason I'm really good at chugging stuff through a straw, in fact I can chug down a milk carton through a straw in like 2 seconds. So probably that.
9. Who would win in a fight between a baboon or a badger?
Badgers are nasty, man. Baboons may be bigger and have thumbs and all that but I have to give this one to the badger.
10. When your first ISFL contract pay check comes in what's the first purchase you're going to make? Something sensible or a fancy car?
Probably a new grill to make some steak on. I don't wanna be too flashy with my money, you know.
In the seventh round of the draft, Yellowknife drafted Alexander Johnson, a wide receiver from Los Angeles, CA. Walker played college football at UCLA. After college, he was taken by the Norfolk Seawolves in the DSFL draft. In his rookie DSFL season, Walker had 18 catches for 204 yards and 1 TD. At 5 ft. 9 in. and 175 lbs., Walker will be back on the Seawolves for the upcoming season.
1. Congratulations on being drafted into the ISFL! How did it feel hearing your name called on draft night?
It felt amazing, and a bit surprising to be drafted in the middle-ish rounds, considering my TPE was very low.
2. Which team did you think would draft you? Were you surprised that Yellowknife was the team to pick you?
All I really had to go off of was another person's media mock draft, which had me being round 7 pick 11 to the Orange County Otters, and I actually laughed in surprise, hearing the Wraiths call my name.
3. Were you surprised with where you were picked in the draft? Do you think you should have been picked higher (or lower)?
As I said in question 1, it definitely was a bit surprising, where I ended up. I thought for sure I would be in round 8 or 9. While I don't think I should have been picked higher or lower, I am pleased with where I ended up.
4. What are you most looking forward to this season?
I'm definitely looking forward to playing some more with Norfolk, and raising my TPE to maybe propel us to an Ultimini championship.
5. Do you feel any pressure to live up to the high standards of Wraiths team?
I think anyone would feel an enormous amount of pressure to live up to such high standards, but I do hope to live up to those expectations.
6. What are your first impressions of the Wraiths locker room? Have any players or coaches made a particular impression on you?
First impressions are always important, and I'm very impressed with the Wraiths locker room. I know Fly has made an impression on me with how quickly he answered all my contract-related questions.
7. Looking beyond this season, what do you hope to accomplish in your career?
I hope to enter the HOF for sure. I also intend to lead in yardage, receptions, and touchdowns.
8. You have to take the stage for the rookie talent show in front of the locker room, what talent do you show off?
I would show off my skills in writing and composing poetry, and my mad gaming skillz.
9. Who would win in a fight between a baboon or a badger?
Baboons are vicious and nasty. Nuff said.
10. When your first ISFL contract pay check comes in what's the first purchase you're going to make? Something sensible or a fancy car?
When my first contract paycheck comes in, first thing I'm gonna do is I'm gonna donate some of it to the Salvation Army and American Cancer Society for all that they do. The rest will go towards my possible family's college fund.
With their final pick of the Season 25 ISFL draft, the Yellowknife Wraiths drafted offensive lineman Sterling Moss. Moss, a native of Fayetteville, AR, played college football at the University of Arkansas. After college, Moss spent his first season in the DSFL playing for the Minnesota Grey Ducks. While on the Grey Ducks, Moss lined up at the tackle position where he racked up 25 pancakes while allowing 3 sacks. Moss weighs in at 320 lbs and 6 ft. 6 in. in height. Otherwise, little is known about Moss. The Wraith’s scouts searched high and low in Arkansas and in Minnesota in an effort to find him however he was unable to be located for this interview. The Wraiths will keep looking to try and locate Moss, and in the event they do, expect to hear from him as well!
After talking to all of the new draftees, I had a chance to sit down with Patrik Money, one of the Wraith’s general managers, and here is what he had to say about this draft class:
“Going into this draft we were really excited by all the prospects on the board. This is easily one of the best draft classes of all time and we knew we would get some great players. After the draft we were possibly even more excited. We couldn't get everyone but we grabbed so many of our top prospects and we're really looking forward to the direction they will take Yellowknife. From all the draftees answers I'm sure you can see how excited they are to be here and we're ready for another dynasty of Ultimus appearances (hopefully winning more of them this time.)”
Well folks, that is it for this season’s edition of “Meet the newest Yellowknife Wraiths.” Thanks for joining us, and we hope that you’ll be on hand for the season opener. at a time and place to be determined. Until then stay Spooky ladies and gentlemen!
