As we all know, the league went through another round of expansion. As such, I have taken the responsibility of coming up with some possible branding ideas for the future, just so we can get some ideas out there about where expansion teams in the future could possibly go and perhaps what things they could use for branding.
Kodiak Trappers
This was the first idea that I came up with. Although Yellowknife is already a somewhat Northern team, I think that it is time that Alaska had their own professional football team. I felt like Juneau would be a little too boring, because that’s probably where everyone would choose to go, but I also didn’t want to pick somewhere like Unalaska, because feasibly, no one would actually go to any of their games. As such, I decided on a happy medium of Kodiak. Their branding would be trappers, because there was a heavy focus on the fur trade in and around the Kodiak area prior to this century, specifically for otter pelts. As such, I felt like this would be a good throwback to the historical roots of the area itself. The mascot would likely be someone with a fur hat and looked like Davy Crockett, and their colors would be something more subdued and earthy such as green as to mimic nature.
Savannah Admirals
My second idea was driven primarily by my desire to bring an ISFL to my home state of Georgia. I’m not too sure why every single sim league seems to shun Georgia as a possible home for a professional team, but I really think it is a good place for a team. Instead of the overdone Atlanta teams, I decided that it would probably be a lot more fun to put a team in Savannah, Georgia. Savannah is a pretty large city and would be able to take on having a professional team. The branding for this team largely stems from the fact that Savannah is a major port of entry for many goods on the eastern seaboard. As such, I thought that I would pay homage to the shipping industry and make the team somewhat maritime related. Their colors could be gold to reflect the haughtiness of Admirals or perhaps something blue to relate to the sea, but it’s really up to them.
Tennessee Moonshiners
My third idea comes directly from my own experiences. I felt as if the south did not have enough representation in the PBE, so I decided that Tennessee would be a great place to put a team. After all, Nashville is one of the fastest growing cities in the entire US. Although the team would be Tennessee, I would like for it to be located in Nashville largely due to the central location of Nashville relative to the state, as well as the fact that it is a great tourist location after all. The one tough thing would be having a loyal fanbase, largely due to the fact that Nashville is a city of transplants. However, if they are able to achieve success, I think that the city of Nashville would embrace a major league team (a la Predators). The branding for this team comes largely from the fact that Tennessee is known for their whiskey making. Lynchburg, which is about an hour and a half from Nashville, creates every drop of Jack Daniels on Earth, so what better than to pay homage to the people who kept alcohol alive during prohibition and created the great sport of NASCAR?
Big Sky Bison
I decided to have a little more fun after this. I picked Big Sky as another possible area of expansion because I thought that a place as beautiful as Montana should have more people visit. What better way than to have a professional football team? I personally chose Big Sky because the ski slopes there are really nice, and it would be a great added bonus for people who decide to come catch a game at The PastureTM. The branding would be the Bison largely because I think it’s time that Bison were recognized more. After all, they are indigenious to the US and everyone knows exactly what they are since we are forced to learn about them in elementary school for some reason. Furthermore, Bison were important because they were largely the reason why westward expansion and manifest destiny were able to succeed and the frontier was able to be established. As such, I think they deserve more recognition.
Ludlow Miners
This branding is more of a memorial than a celebration of what happened. For those who don’t know, Ludlow, Colorado was the site of a major labor strike in 1914. However, it ended in a massacre when the Colorado National Guard opened fire and ended up killing 20 or so occupants, 12 of which were women and children. The Ludlow Massacre marked the peak of the Colorado Coalfield Wars, which was by far the most violent labor uprising in the history of America. Interestingly, Ludlow, CO is now a ghost town, so building a professional football team there would take much less resources and time than it would to pull the proper permits for an urban site.
