Draft Day
I could barely contain my excitement when I went to bed last night, knowing that when I woke up, the next time I'd lay my head down, I would be part of a brotherhood, a family, a team.
Today is Draft Day. A day that changes lives for so many young men and women. So many of us have been working our entire existence for this moment. I would love to say I have an idea of who will be calling my name, but to be honest, I have no idea really. Before the draft, I had spoken to many different scouts, some coming back around multiple times to see how I was doing with the whole process. It was a little surreal.
Watching the draft was something else. I watched the 1st round come and go, not really expecting to hear my name as there were more established and well known athletes ahead of me. Round 2 began and I still wasn't sure if I would hear my name just yet (the only mock draft i saw that had my name showed me going in the 7th round). By the time round 3 was wrapping up, I wasn't entirely paying attention, thinking I'd be a late rounder by that point.
Then the London Royals stepped to the mic. Something caught my attention before he even spoke. Im not entirely sure what it was, but I had this tingling feeling and directed my attention to the screen. And then he announced it:
"With the 24th overall pick, The London Royals select Logan Sarrasin, Linebacker"
It was surreal hearing my name get called (and they actually pronounced my last name properly which isn't common for non french speaking folk).
I was the only Linebacker taken by them, and despite them having 3 other LBs on their roster, I knew that was significant. Even if I'm asked to play around the roster or if I have to wait for my turn to play, I'm alright with that. This has been a tremendous experience.
I'd like to thank my parents, who always believed their little man could make it. My high school and college coaches. My teammates who helped push me to become a better player everyday and never let me give up. And to my mentor, who even after suffering that terrible injury, still helped me adjust to the grinds of being an every down starter.
Now the fun part starts. Getting ready for camp and pre season. The league has officially been put on notice.
