With the S25 DSFL Draft in the books, it's time to take a look back at my recent two-round Mock Draft to see how accurate I was (spoiler alert, not very accurate.)
First - here ls my mock if anybody wants to take a second look
Let's start with a breakdown:
- Of the 16 players drafted tonight, I had 12 of them correctly placed somewhere in the first two rounds.
- I had one pick exactly right - QB LeBron James III going to the Portland Pythons at #5 overall. I might've had the QBs in the wrong order, but LBJ gave me the highlight of my mock draft.
- I had three players mocked to the correct team, but in the wrong round.
1. Minnesota Grey Ducks - QB Ryan Negs (DE Ernest Lover)
9. Minnesota Grey Ducks - OL Alexander Franklin (WR Arthur Naught)
- S Derek Wildstar went to Kansas City at #3 instead of #11
- WR Tugg Speedman went to London at #16 instead of #8
- Richard Littlewood went to Myrtle Beach at #12 instead of #4.
- QB - I had LeBron James III and Ryan Negs flip-flopped, which were the only two QBs in my two round mock.
- RB - Mr. Forty-Two was the easiest positional rank here. Clearly the best RB on the board.
- WR - Two were in my mock, but three went in the first two rounds. It was close, as I had Speedman going #8 and Naught #9. In reality, they were swapped, with Naught being taken 13th and Speedman going 16th.
- TE - No TEs mocked nor taken in the first two rounds.
- OL - Another flip-flop here as I had Alexander Franklin and Richard Littlewood swapped in the order.
- DE - Pretty easy call with Ernest Lover being the top DE taken. I was right on the money.
- DT - No DT mocked nor taken in the first two rounds.
- LB - I was right about Leonard Taylor being the first LB off the board, but was eight picks off on his predicted slot.
- CB - I almost nailed this one perfectly. I was right about Cobra Kai being the first CB taken, but had him going third overall to Kansas City. Instead, he wound up going to Dallas the pick prior.
- S - Got the order right, but the pick number wrong in a big way. I had Wildstar going before me, but was off a combined 17 combined picks in where we were actually taken.
- K/P - No special teamers mocked nor drafted in the first two rounds.
1. Minnesota Grey Ducks - QB Ryan Negs (DE Ernest Lover)
- I have to admit - this was an oversight. I thought SnowBow was still active, or else I would've had Minnesota taking a QB here. With the rapport Negs built with the Ducks, he would've been my pick. This was an easy call for the Grey Ducks and a fantastic pick as they draft their QB of the future in Ryan Negs. Negs is a University of Georgia product and has all the tools to become an elite DSFL QB. Active, friendly, and driven, look for Negs to help the Grey Ducks bounce back after a tough S24. Go Dawgs!
- I'm giving myself half credit here, as Cobra Kai will apparently be playing RB for the Birddogs. But regardless, I love this pick for Dallas. Kai looks to be on the way to max earning and he will be a great addition to their roster. Dallas needed help in their backfield and it won't take long for Kai to ease right into that role. Sweep the leg!
- Well I had the general positional area correct, as Kansas City shored up their secondary here. This was one of my favorite picks in the first two rounds, as Kanas City added an elite player as well as a top-notch user. The Coyotes went for need and want here in a match made in heaven. Like the last pick, I'm giving myself partial credit here. Awooooo!
- I had Myrtle Beach going with Littlewood here, but we'll hear more about that in the second round. I thought the Bucs would shore up their OL, but Taylor will be a very nice addition to their linebacker room. Taylor is a speed rusher, so he checks multiple boxes and should be able to help out in run support on top of his well-developed pass rushing skills. They had the second-fewest tackles for loss last season, which will change after drafting Taylor
- Perfection here for Portland. Per my sources (what they said on the stream) LeBron was their top choice and boy did they need a QB. With Negs off the board, this was the absolute perfect match for both of them. LeBron already has a nice TPE stockpile and made waves today with his draft-fashion Twitter thread. One has to think, ith LeBron and Negs both going top five in the same draft, are we looking at a potential decade-long rivalry?
- I wasn't even close with my mock pick here, no bones about it. I predicted Alexander Franklin to Tijuana, but the Luchadores picked up LB BamBam McMullet here. It's hard not to like this pick as BamBam heads back to Tijuana, this time as a permanent Luchadore. Great user, high earner, and will fit in nicely for the Tijuana defense. Can this addition get the Luchadores back to the Ultimini? Sooner rather than later, I reckon.
- Also giving myself partial credit here as I had the correct college (University of Georgia) but wrong player. I'm thrilled to be headed back to Norfolk, where I spent the last couple weeks of last season. Go Dawgs!
- I could not love this pick any more if I tried. London got a steal here at 8th overall with the addition of Ernest Lover. I originally had the Royals going offense-defense, but they ended up with the opposite with their two picks. The clear #1 DE in the Draft, Lover adds more fire-power to the reigning Ultimini Champs. As they say, the rich get richer.
9. Minnesota Grey Ducks - OL Alexander Franklin (WR Arthur Naught)
- What do you do after you draft your franchise quarterback? Give him some offensive line support, of course! I had Franklin with a first round grade, so the Ducks are getting insane value here. They leave the first two rounds with arguably the #1 QB and #1 OL in the entire Draft. In my mind, they are the clear winner from the first two rounds.
- Slurms was the second of three players who I did have in my original two-round mock, but Dallas stayed on the defensive side here. With Kai making the switch to running back, Slurms is the major new piece of the Birddog secondary and will be elite from day one. I had Otawara here originally, but the Birddogs' front office creativity explains the pick here. Well done, Dallas.
- Kansas City stayed on defense with A.J. Lucas here in the second round. This was one of my "right place, wrong number" mock picks, as I had Wildstar headed to the Great Plains here. The Coyotes clearly saw the same thing I did when I did my mock research - a major need for defense. They doubled up on the defensive side and shored up their starting 11 in a big way. Lucas hails from New Zealand and is a terror off the edge. Look for him to pick up right where he left off at LSU.
- I don't know how the Buccaneers did it, but they ended up with a first round OL here at #12. Littlewood was my top OL pre-draft and another of my "right place, wrong number" picks, as I had him headed to Myrtle Beach with their first round selection. It's really hard not to love how the Bucs drafted in the first two rounds. They filled major needs and got really, really good value.
- So close! I had Kansas City finishing up their second round with a wide receiver, but I picked the wrong one. Naught is the choice for the Coyotes who were in desperate need of an outside playmaker. The Penn Quaker product will fit in perfectly in Kansas City and the Coyotes are adding a great user. With three picks in the first 13, KC needed to absolutely nail their draft and by my estimation, they absolutely did.
- This was the last of the players who weren't in my mock draft, as Tijuana doubles up with linebackers with their first two picks. Jones will be a great complement to the speed-rushing Leonard Taylor, as Vincent is more of a traditional middle linebacker. Whether it's helping out in coverage or filling gaps in the run game, Jones can do everything Tijuana can ask of him. I was way off on both of the Luchadores' picks...coincidence?
- Absolutely love the value here for the Seawolves, as they grab the clear-cut #1 RB in the draft. Mr. Forty-Two is a first round talent here at #15 and will hopefully offset all of the callups that massacred the Seawolves roster this offseason. The ink was barely dry on his contract before he cranked out a massive media piece, as the numbered man is ready to help take us back to the Ultimini. As far as my mock is concerned, I was about as far off here as possible.
- I had Speedman going to the Royals, but was eight picks off as he ends up in London anyways. They have a pretty big need for wide receiver and do a great job of adding value while filling that need. I had mocked myself here with the 16th overall pick, but that was not even close. With the addition of Ernest Lover and Tugg Speedman, will we have a Royal repeat?
