The London Times caught up with rookie wide receiver for the London Royals Tugg Speedman after their recent Week Four loss. Coming into this week Tugg was having a productive start to the season however he would even admit that there was room for improvement. We talked to Tugg about the locker room, how it feels to take the field so far in London, you - the London Royals fans, his record setting game this week against the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers where he caught 9 passes for 153 yards, and how he's getting acquainted so far in London.
Reporter: "Hey Tugg, thanks for giving us the time to interview you after your big game. How are you feeling after a game where you set the single game receiving record in Developmental Simulation Football League and Royals history and tied the receptions record for the Royals as well?"
Tugg: "No problem, you guys (the media) are helping me build the Tugg Speedman brand. I'll say this, I hate losing. There's no way around that. We're on a two game skid right now and we need to come together as a team and push through this and get back in the win column. We're a better team than this, and I think everyone in this locker room knows that. And yeah, I saw I broke the team record for the Royals and tied the receptions record for a single game. I didn't realize I also broke the Developmental Simulation Football League record for yards as well. I told you guys I'm electric before the game on Twitter and I'm only getting started."
Reporter: "Electric you are Tugg. You're currently the leading receiver on the team, how is the receivers room and locker room in general? Not to stir the pot but can you speak to your lack of touchdowns on the year as you have yet to find the end zone through four weeks?"
Tugg: "The receivers room is great. We're all competitive and want the ball. There is a silent acknowledgement among us that we're all trying to help the team win and that we're all capable of making plays. It pushes us that much harder as a cohesive group to ball out. The locker room overall is great. London is everything that I wanted in a team and more, I can't say enough good things about it. I haven't found the end zone yet, you're right. It's making me work that much harder to get there. It bothers me to no end that I haven't been able to do it, especially today where I feel like I had a couple chances on some of the bigger plays that I was a part of. It's going to happen, it's not a matter of if, but a matter of when. For now though, it's only motivating me more and I know I'm that much closer to hitting my stride here in London."
Reporter: "Have you noticed any difference between playing in America than playing in London? How about college compared to the Developmental Simulation Football League?"
Tugg: "The way I look at it is this - we're playing on a football field. It can be in Cleveland, London, Australia, or even Antarctica, it doesn't matter as long as the hash marks are there and there are two end zones. I'm gonna ball out and make plays no matter what. College was great and while I definitely made my mark relatively quickly at Texas Christian University, the Developmental Simulation Football League is the challenge I needed. It's allowing me to work that much harder and the reward will be winning yet another championship while setting records while doing it."
Reporter: "High hopes and no shortage of confidence for you Tugg. Still getting acquainted to London or have you settled in pretty well?"
Tugg: "Confidence is my one of my best qualities. I've gotten pretty used to London already with the help of my teammates and the fans who continuously buy me shit when I'm out and about. Usually every morning I'll go for a run and learn the neighborhoods around me and after wins you'll find a couple of teammates and myself at one of the local pubs celebrating as is London Royals tradition. It's been a ton of fun so far and I'm trying to make the most of my time here while I'm in the Developmental Simulation Football League."
Reporter: "Sounds like a bloody good time. Despite the loss this week, rumor has it you earned yourself a game ball, any truth to this?"
Tugg: "Sure did, I did my thing out there and certainly expected it after the game I had. My boy Cortez and I have some great chemistry on the field together and I give him a lot of credit. Excited to see what the rest of the season has in store for us as a one two punch."
Reporter: "I think all London Royals fans are excited to see you guys put in the work on the field every week. Anything you have to say to them through four weeks of this season?"
Tugg: "Keep riding with us and showing up every single week. You're living up to the "best fans in the world" banter I was hearing when I got drafted here. I appreciate you guys, especially you crazy ass ones who keep buying me shit. Never change. Also, keep buying my jersey and lets get that number six London Royals jersey to number one in the both the International Simulation Football League and the Developmental Simulation Football League. I'm not here to take part, I'm here to take over. This is a movement baby, hop on the Tugg Speedman train before you get left behind."
Reporter: "That should help bump those merch numbers up and get the fans hyped up for you and the team. Alright Tugg, I'll let you get back to it. Congrats again on your accomplishments this week and good luck moving forward."
Tugg: "Thanks, appreciate you guys as well. Go Royals!"
