Last week, I think on Tuesday, I pointed out something in the stream chat that might have unbeknownst to any of us changed the outcome of the playoffs in both leagues.
To explain, we need to talk about Glims. He's a nice guy with a penchant for Anime and confidently calls himself a weeb. I can certainly respect that. That being said, he's been a part of two teams during his time in the league: The Kansas City Coyotes and the Baltimore Hawks. As a matter of fact, right now he's the GM of the Coyotes. So far, every time, his teams have gone on playoff pushes that were beyond their TPE. Sim luck and their opponent's bad luck conspired to put them in the driver's seat for the playoffs, despite perhaps being a bit worse than the teams right behind them.
And then the luck runs out.
Let's start with last year's Coyotes. The Coyotes, with 3 games left in the season, were at the top of the NFC. They had a 6-5 record, and had just knocked Portland down to 5-6. And they had 2 home games left, while the Pythons had 2 away games and were in the middle of a skid of losing games they should have won.
Then they lost 3 straight games to fall to 6-8 and lost out on tiebreakers to the similarly limping Pythons.
Glims, as Felix Archstone, then got called up to the Hawks. And this year, they did great. They leapt out to an 8-6 record, only a game back of the Sailfish in 2nd and a game up on the Butchers. And the franchise he was GMing, the Coyotes, were also doing well. While not in contention for the top spot in the conference, they were a game up on everyone else and had an inside track for the playoff spot.
Then I asked a question in the stream chat last Tuesday, about halfway through the games. "The question is, when does Glims' magic pixie dust run out?" Answer: Right then apparently. Since that point, the Hawks lost their last 2 games, fell to 8-8, and missed the playoffs to the Butchers on tiebreakers. Meanwhile, the Coyotes have lost their last 2 games as well, and have gone from second to bottom of the conference with one game to play. Their last game is a tough one, too. They have to go into Minnesota and beat them at their stadium in order to have a shot at the playoffs. As anyone with a week of experience in this sim can tell you, beating a team away is a tough task. Yet one perfectly suited to Glims with magic pixie dust.
Meanwhile, the Pythons are actually in 2nd in the conference right now, but actually have the slimmest chance to make the playoffs out of anyone in the DSFL (not counting the already eliminated bottom feeders of the SFC). They need to go into London and beat them away. THEN they need Kansas City to also beat the Ducks because the Ducks have a lead on the Pythons in terms of Tiebreakers.
So, I am in this position. I ask the football sim gods to give Glims back his pixie dust, so that he can beat the Ducks and have a shot at making the playoffs. And so I do what Glims usually does to get good luck from the sim.
Glims, I wish you luck. London, I wish you luck.
