THANK YOU SAN JOSE
When I saw the extra media payout for thankfulness I knew just what I wanted to talk about and say what I am thankful for especially when it comes to this league and my time here in the league.
Deondre Thomas-Fox is entering his final season with the team and more importantly than that, he is not really controlled by me anymore so he is just kind of like a random inactive guy that the team has to deal with now I believe at least with regression and what his role will be and what not. As far as my mindset is, I am still a part of San Jose and am still a player on San Jose but at the same time, I really am not, and that is something very strange. I don't think Joliet Christ Jr. will be drafted by the Sabercats with Monty Jack still having a lot left in him so I think I submitted my final update with the Sabercats for a long time and that is kind of crazy to think about. I have been at least in the San Jose locker room since Season 10 and besides the one year of DSFL play with DTF and JLC, have had a player on the Sabercats for that whole amount of time. I have been a Sabercat for over 2 years real time, and after DTF plays his final snap, it may be the end.
I was drafted to San Jose in Season 10 when it was pretty much Christ vs Falconi for who went to either San Jose or Philadelphia and no other QBs were really max earning so the two spots fit both so well. San Jose had a ton of picks that draft but went with D'Pez Poopsie and Kazimir Oles in that order I believe at 1st and 2nd overall and with Philadelphia up next, but also picking at 5 or 6 or something, and San Jose up yet again at 4, a QB was coming off the board and it was either 3rd or 4th overall to who chose their QB. Now, honestly, the whole time, I thought Philadelphia is where Christ would end up playing as I had been a co-GM in the PBE and both Philly GMs were on the team, the New York Voyagers in Adam and BW. Philadelphia decided however to let San Jose have their choice of QB and for whatever reason, decided to draft Lucari Felix 3rd overall, oof. San Jose was given the choice of Christ or Falconi and they decided to make Joliet Christ the potential franchise QB for the Sabercats and I was super happy about it. Now, I knew CK a little in the PBE but I would not say I knew him super well but have been able to build a great friendship with him over the years thanks to this pick and am very thankful for that.
Not only was I able to be drafted to San Jose to be pretty much the face of the franchise at the QB position, it was only a short time after that I was able to be hired on as the co-GM for the team and make headway into a career in building some NSFL team. I had experience at the GM level in multiple places already like EFL, SBA, and the PBE so I at least knew what I was doing a little bit. I was co-GM and QB for a team that had never won a playoff game, it was a lot to ask but did not come with super hefty expectations other than breaking the curse! The Season 10 draft was huge for the team in terms of overall locker room development so the rest was just filling out the team with drafts and trades and we got to a point where we were a top team in the league and won an Ultimus. We kind of set the standard for running QB offense and that was a pretty awesome feeling. It was a tremendous run as the co-GM and QB of my first franchise ever!
I had the opportunity at one point to be the head GM of the San Jose Sabercats and it lasted an off-season and like 4 weeks of the regular season as I just did not have the time to put 100% of my efforts in with the team but I am thankful for the opportunity to try. We won't talk about the failed Oakland Sabercats move or the awful draft where we had 2 firsts and could not even get an active player, it was not a high point in the league's history and unfortunately I had to GM at this time and I think it made it not as worth it to GM if I could not put 100% effort in and I couldn't even act as an actual GM anyways. CK came back but he was more motivated than ever it seemed which was a really good thing so if my taking over for a couple weeks helped with that, then it was worth it! I appreciate the team giving me the chance and being able to have faith in me!
Christ's career had come to an end and it came at a good time with Dan Wright either leaving for FA or switching to QB and he got the job to QB instead of leave the franchise which I think was great for the team to at least have a guy there and delay the need for a QB to be drafted or Rradum to make the choice to also be a QB. Christ had an amazing career and I would not change a thing but it was time for something new! My new player was supposed to be Christ 2.0 but ended up being someone I was willing to switch positions and that is what happened.
Now, if you know CK, you know that if he knows you, he is going to draft you and that is what happened with DTF in Season 19 where he took me 2nd overall which was way higher than I thought I should go but a testament to the relationship we built over the years and I was thankful to be back. I did not always have fun with DTF but loved being a part of the San Jose Sabercats.
I have met or grew a better relationship with people in San Jose like CK, Muford, Oles, Doug, Gooner, Leafs, Rradum, Nicky, and others as well as the new crop of guys like Ty, Lackson, Bass, Matty, Butters, Brack, and of course others.
I have loved being a part of the Sabercat family and will always be part even when I am not physically there.
Thank you so much San Jose!
