The Washingtons. This name is worn across the back of many athletes ranging from Hockey to Football. They produced Hall of Famers, Draft Busts, and All-Stars. Today, we will be talking about a specific Washington, who hopes to start his pro career in the DSFL. His name is Trevious Washington, better known as Tre. He is the youngest of three sons belonging to Duece and Cynthia Washington. Deuce was a longtime coach at the high school level of many Memphis-area programs and Cynthia was a principal at Whitehaven High school. Unlike many of his friends, Tre and his brothers grew up with both parents providing for them. They made sure their sons understood the importance of focusing on school and getting a degree. And all three listened. DeAndre, Tre’s oldest brother, attended Auburn where he played outside linebacker and got a degree in engineering. DeAndre now plays pro football in Canada. Terrell, Tre’s 2nd oldest brother, went to Southern Miss, played quarterback, and graduated with a degree in business. Thus, when it was time for Tre to go to college he chose North Carolina on a football scholarship. Tre, like his brothers, was local high school football legends for Bartlett High, all 3 winning the school rings in football, baseball, and basketball, so it was no surprise when the offers came by the dozen for them. What was a surprise was when Tre decided to not stay in the SEC and instead commit and sign to an ACC school. Tre was set to be a key addition for UNC until one unfortunate night. While visiting family, Tre had attended a party with some friends and drove a former classmate home. What Tre didn’t realize was that the classmate had weed hidden in his hoodie. Tre was arrested and charged for possession of illegal substances and was given community service and ultimately lost his scholarship. He later transferred to Northwest Community College before the start of the season. While there, he served as the team's strong safety, halfback, and returner , a swiss army knife of sorts, and won the junior college natty with Northwest. Tre, the top JUCO safety at the time, was offered a scholarship to North Carolina A&T, a HBCU not too far from Chapel Hill. Tre accepted the offer and headed to the campus following his sophomore year. While there he earned many awards as the team's starting safety. He was a 2 time All-Meac team player, 1 time All-FCS team player, and won a Celebration Bowl MVP his senior year. Tre now turns his attention to making a DSFL roster after graduating from NC A&T with a degree in food and nutritional sciences. Where will Twash’s story take us next? Find out next time.
