Welcome to the second part of the Despacito Network's critique of user Speculadora's mock draft submission, last article was submitted prematurely after I accidentally hit a key on my keyboard that apparently instantly posts whatever you've got written. Someone in the comments is welcome to let me know what button it is because that scared the shit out of me in the moment.
Anyway, where were we? Up to this point, Spec is 5/6 on his predictions so far, and doing a great job with his predictions. However, as covered in the first part of this critique, located HERE, these were all relatively easy guesses for him to make. Does he have what it takes to continue off this good start? Let's continue diving into it.
7. (Honolulu Hahalua) Derek Wildstar (-4)
Uh oh. Oh no. This is really unfortunate. After a good start for Spec, it's already unwinding at the start of this second part, as he is off on this pick by four picks. Spec's mock had Safety Derek Wildstar going to Honolulu with this pick, but he wouldn't go in the draft until Berlin's second first of the draft, 11th overall. Oops!
The actual 7th overall pick was Running Back Cobra Kai, who when you look at his stats very much justifies the selection, and makes you think Spec should have done a bit better on this one. He was third in the league in rushing yards with 1482 yards on 278 rushing attempts, and he had the highest average yardage per rush among RBs with 200+ rushing attempts, posting an impressive 5.3 average yards per rush. I must say, it's pretty foolish of Spec to expect that someone with this level of talent would fall to 12th overall, very weird if you ask me.
Current Spec Tally: 5/7
8. (Chicago Butchers) Alexander Franklin (Correct)
Spec improves back up to a 75% ratio with a correct prediction of Offensive Lineman Alexander Franklin going 8th overall to the Chicago Butchers. And for this one I am willing to give credit where its due to Spec because this one seemed a much less popular prediction than previous ones that he got right. Nice job man, that's 6 right now.
Franklin is the first Offensive Lineman taken in the draft, and the big strong Minnesota Grey Ducks kid has shown a lot of his ability to lead the O-Line. He was second among rookie Offensive Linemen in pancakes, and he only allowed a single sack on the season, so he brings a very stable presence to Chicago and much-needed protection for their Quarterback. Now I know I have been very critical of Spec, but his predictions up to this point have actually been pretty good! Maybe I've been wrong about my judgements of him and he really is good at this stuff.
Current Spec Tally: 6/8
9. (Arizona Outlaws) Tugg Speedman (-5)
You have got to be kidding me here Spec. Tugg Speedman?? 9th overall? Jesus Christ man what is this. Not only did Speedman not go at this pick, as my reaction would probably suggest, but he almost fell out of the first round entirely, just making it in as the last pick of the round by San Jose. How could you possibly think Tugg Speedman was going at this pick? What???
The actual pick that Arizona made here was Safety Moe Skeeter. Skeeter was a very solid defensive player for the Portland Pythons this season, as he was tied for 2nd in the league in interceptions with 4, and more impressively he was the only defensive player who scored two touchdowns in the entire DSFL this season. He looks like a very tidy pick for Arizona with a lot of upside to build on. I still can't believe Spec had Tugg Speedman for this one, yeesh.
Current Spec Tally: 6/9
10. (Sarasota Sailfish) Raphael Delacour (-5)
Spec?!? What's going on man, that's the first time you get two wrong picks in a row here. For this pick you had the Sailfish taking Wide Receiver Raphael Delacour, but this dude didn't even go in the first round, going at pick #15 to Chicago. Very strange prediction by you here to be honest, but hey we all make mistakes, it happens. Just don't let it happen again.
The real pick to round out the top 10 was Portland Pythons Defensive End, Demon Jaxson, the second player of his position to be taken thus far. Jaxson's stats were a little more low key defensively than some players taken before him, but he had a respectable 9 TFL, which was solid despite his low tackle output of 24. He is still a very solid pick here with good potential despite lacking the flashiness in the statline right now. As for Spec, will we continue to see his mock spiral downwards?
Current Spec Tally: 6/10
11. (Chicago Butchers, traded to Berlin Fire Salamanders) Moe Skeeter (+2)
Uhhhhh newsflash Spec buddy, Skeeter was gone before this pick already. Arizona took him 9th. It's really disappointing to see Spec underselling the talent of promising prospects like this, as it was pretty obvious to anyone that Skeeter was well worth at the very least a pick in the top 10. Whoever the user behind Moe Skeeter is, I hope this doesn't hurt your self-confidence too badly.
The actual player taken here was none other than Safety Derek Wildstar. Remember him from earlier? Yeah he's the guy that Spec had going way too early up at the 7th pick. Wildstar, the third Safety taken in the draft after Maple and Skeeter, had a solid season playing for the Kansas City Coyotes, putting up 62 tackles, good for 8th among Safeties in the DSFL. I would hope that Spec incorrectly predicting him going way higher than he ended up going doesn't go to his head. Let's check up on the tally again.
Current Spec Tally: 6/11
12. (Orange County Otters, traded to Yellowknife Wraiths) Cobra Kai (+5)
This one was another one of Spec's bad picks. At this point anyone would assume that he also got the last two wrong because this is just getting embarrassing now. Cobra Kai should demand a public apology from Spec for this one because oh man I don't even know what was going through his head assuming this guy would make it to 12th. In reality Kai went 7th to the Hahalua, and I mean if you look at his statline it's not surprising at all, at least it shouldn't been for the "expert mock man".
In reality, this pick was traded by Orange County to the Yellowknife Wraiths for the Canadian team to select Linebacker Leonard Taylor. Spec had him going to the Wraiths 8 picks earlier, but that proved to be a mistake because Yellowknife managed to be able to land him way later in the first than that. Playing for the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers, Taylor was 7th overall in tackles in the league, and 2nd among rookies, making 108. While obviously a good prospect in his own right, Spec definitely overhyped where Leonard was going to go in this draft. Whoops.
Current Spec Tally: 6/12
13. (Colorado Yeti) Big Slammu (-16)
I mean, the number speaks for itself on this one. Not only was Spec off in predicting that Dallas Birddogs Linebacker Big Slammu was going in the first round, he was more than an entire round off of where Slammu actually went, which was to the Wraiths at 29th overall. I like moonlight as a user and obviously Franklin Armstrong is an Orange County GOAT but you simply have to be better Spec. Not really sure what made Slammu fall this far in all honesty, but you should've know man...you should've known.
Anyway, the actual pick that the Colorado Yeti made here was Defensive Tackle Redbeard McFredbeard from the Kansas City Coyotes. McFredbeard is one of a few Coyotes players taken in the first round of this draft, although his stats are more or less unremarkable in comparison to players taken above him, at least it looks that way from my very baseline knowledge of football perception of his stats. Anyway what do I even say at this point? Spec got yet another one wrong, he has gotten a single pick right this entire second part of the analysis. He is simply bad at this.
Current Spec Tally: 6/13
14. (San Jose Sabercats) Makoto Otawara (-12)
And there we go. Yep there it is. Talk about failing to finish strongly, fucking hell. Right after getting one so wrong the player ended up going round three, Spec gets a back to back embarrassing swing and a miss by putting Makoto Otawara as the player to go 14th. They ended up actually going 26th. I don't think I really have to add anything here, you have all heard it all already.
The actual final pick of the first round was a name you would recognize if you read the 9th overall pick section of this article, which I hope you have. It was none other than London Royals Wide Receiver Tugg Speedman. I want to apologize for any comments I made that sounded like criticism of Speedman, anything negative I say about players is meant to be directed at Spec's inability to make good mocks. Anyway, Speedman had a very solid campaign in the DSFL, catching for the fifth most yards of any player in the league, making 73 receptions for 841 yards, and 4 touchdowns. He is solid value at this pick, but despite what Spec believed, not much more than that unfortunately.
Well that sums up my review of Speculadora's mock draft submission, and all I can say is the facts and the numbers don't lie. A 6/14 final score is not a passing grade in any respectable academic setting, and should not be considered as such here either, especially considering that Spec is meant to be the guy that we all lean on to provide the best and most accurate mocks. This is the guy Orange County contractually have to play as their primary wide receiver for the next two seasons? How is this man going to keep star WR Garfield Despacito Jr. isolated and alone as the third or fourth receiving option? It is simply not fair. I hope you have all learned a lesson today, and thank you for tuning into another Despacito Network Draft Series.
Anyway, where were we? Up to this point, Spec is 5/6 on his predictions so far, and doing a great job with his predictions.
