Obviously, like every other S27 prospect, I'm in dire need of a cash infusion, and I thought instead of spending hours at once writing one large media piece, I'd split it every day, and write a small media piece each day. So that's what I'm going to do. My daily media piece will essentially be a review of a game that I will pick out of the index, it could be from the DSFL or ISFL and from any of the seasons. Let's get straight into it.
For my first review, I decided to jump straight into a very big yet boring game. The S15 Ultimus. Both the first seeds, the SaberCats and the Hawks, had won their respective conference championship easily, each both by 3 scores. These teams were extremely dominant and one would have expected. Looking at these teams and their rosters and how they played all season, I would have put $5 down on the SaberCats winning. Why? Because this was a case of the top defense in the league facing the top offense in the league. Usually, when you have a top offense face a top defense, the defense always wins out. See: Super Bowl 48. Now let's Jump right into the action.
It starts with San Jose at their own 29 yard line, but a stuffed run and back to back incompletions forces a punt. An amazing drive by the QB Gambino which had three 3rd down conversions allowed the Hawks to take the early lead, 7-0. A promising drive by San Jose is stopped after a sack, forcing a punt even though they were 35 yards away from scoring. Gambino catches on fire and drives his team down again, scoring and making it 14-0. San Jose gets a penalty and a sack on the next drive, forcing a 4th and 32 and a punt. Gambino threw a diem to Valentine the next drive but a sack stops the offense in their tracks, forcing a field goal, making the game 17-0. San Jose punts soon after, then after a sack the Hawks punt, and then San Jose punts again, and the Hawks punt again. 4 straight punts. But a great punt by Frost pins the SaberCats at their 1 yard line, and Christ gets sacked for a safety. The score is 19-0 going into the half. Hawks come out flat, punting again after getting the 2nd half kickoff. Sabercats get in FG range and then get sacked, forcing them to punt. But the punt was blocked and Gambino had good field position to go ahead and score, making it 26-0. A penalty on Oles the next drive stalls out the Cats and they punt. With the 3rd quarter coming to an end the Hawks drive down the field, and after the 4rth quarter starts, they score another TD, making it 33-0. San Jose had a key 3rd and 2 on in the Hawks territory the next drive, but Christ tries to run for it on the RPO and gets stuffed. They punt and give the ball back to the Hawks who go and kick a FG, making it 36-0. On the next drive, we're midway through the 4th, and Christ tries to run the ball again, and he manages to break free before he is stripped from behind by Terim, and the Hawks have great field position but they squander it and punt. San Jose goes for it on 4th down the next drive and fails, and Gambino does what he does best and throws a 2 yard fade for the TD, making it 43-0. Another failed 4th down conversion on San Jose's next drive sets up the Hawks for an easy score which they do exactly that. the score is 49-0 after a missed PAT. A long drive from SJS that results in a turnover on downs ends the game.
The Hawks could have had the perfect 50-0 but their kicker really screwed that up. Gambino played out of his mind, with 6 total TDs, 5 through the air and one on his feet. This isn't the game we expected, but it was still fun seeing them pile on the points. The SaberCats #1 defense went away for some reason, and that top offense of the Hawks feasted on the little cats.
I hope you enjoyed my first game review and I'll try and get these published every day. If you have any suggestions on what game I should do next please tell.
