Just a few hours ago Cade York made his DSFL debut as the Kicker for the Portland Pythons. Portland played two tough and talented opponents in Norfolk and Tijuana. Cade’s first career game was against Norfolk where the Pythons prevailed and improved to 5-0. Portland’s offense was electrifying and dominated for most of the game. 21 to13 was the final score from that game. Not much action from Cade York but his stat line was impressive for a first career game, York was 3-3 on Point after attempts and punted the ball 6 times for 236 punt yards and a long of 43, York had this to say after the win “It was great to get out there and get the win for these fans and this franchise. Being a new addition to the team I wanted to go out and play well. I thought we played a complete game of football for 60 minutes and it was great to be 5-0”. Norfolk fell to 1-4 after the loss. After a quick week of practice and game planning, the Pythons returned to the field to take on the Tijuana Luchadores. This was going to be a big game for the team, they had high hopes to improve to 6-0 but also knew they were going up against a great football team. They were told in the locker room just minutes before the game that every play is a new opportunity and they can’t dwell in the past. This would be important advice because on the first play of the game Tijuana took one to the house on the opening kickoff. Cade was visibly upset, when asked about it in the post-game press conference York said, “I thought I got a good piece of the ball and was disappointed to give that up, I felt like I let my team down and put is in a bad spot.” Portland quickly responded with a touchdown of their own and Tijuana stayed around for a little while. York had the opportunity to attempt his first career field goal. It was a 4th and 5 with about 90 seconds to go in the first half, York was out there about to attempt his first career Field Goal from 39 yards out, he nailed it giving Portland a 17-14 lead before the half! The final play of the half Coach South sent York back out there to attempt a 57 yard Field Goal. York got a good bit of it but it wasn’t enough and he missed it. In the 3rd quarter York was back out there to attempt a 43 yard field goal. Looking to bounce back from the precious miss York took some deep breathes prior to attempting the kick, he nailed it! York went back on to attempt his 3rd Extra point attempt and made it! The Pythons won the game and improved to 6-0 after finishing with a 27-14 score. York had this to say after the win, “This is an extremely talented football team and I am just so glad to be apart of it, I enjoyed going out there to kick those Field goals and it felt great to nail two of them! Obviously a little disappointed I missed the 57 yarder but it is what it is. I will have the opportunity to practice and work on it.” After his first two games, Cade’s stat line is as follows, 9 punts for 250 yards, 39 YPP, 5 for 5 on PAT’s, 2-3 on Feild Goals with a long of 43. Not a bad start if you ask me!
