16) Not only has the New Orleans Second Line made it to the playoffs, but we have also made it to the Ultimus! To pump the team up, LeBong Simwell is taking over the AUX cord and putting on some fire beats to get the gang riled up for the big match. LeBong has an eclectic taste in music and his pump-up playlist will reflect that. Here is what is on the playlist:
All of the Lights – Kanye West: This song is electric and a great song. It has a nice drum beat to get the blood flowing, lyrics that match what we are in for in the Ultimus: the lights on the big stage. It’s an upbeat song that is going to be played first.
The Show Goes On – Lupe Fiasco: Similar in style to All of the Lights, this song is a somewhat laid-back pump-up song that is very melodic. It is important not to get too hyped too early and burn out before the big game. This song will continue after All of the Lights to get the group going but not too hyped too soon.
God’s Gonna Cut You Down – Johnny Cash: This is going to be the song that is played right before the team comes out. It is a powerful, emotional song that despite not being fast paced or energetic, really gets you fired up for a violent sport.
17) This year’s Ultimus half time show is going to be unique. The typical concert style half time show is out the window because they are always super lame and uninteresting. The music is never very good and it looks weird to have like 50 people grooving to the songs in the well lit stadium, it is just awful and we are not going that route this year. This year will have various athletic contests to keep the crowd and viewers at home entertained while the Ultimus players take a breather. It will be a modern day Roman coliseum, but sadly the fights will not be going to the death. We will have bouts with medieval weaponry and armor, some jousting with horses meeting at the fifty yard line, and a battle royale style capture the flag game to get the crowd fired up at the end. The capture the flag game will include each team wearing boxing gloves and if you can punch the opposing team in the face while they are on your side of the field they have to go to “jail” as per typical capture the flag. The organizers this year hope that the combat style sports at half time will keep the crowd engaged instead of having soft musical performers bore everyone.
18) I’m also in the SHL. One of the things that is a huge improvement over the ISFL is the banking system. The bank being coded into the site is a huge quality of life improvement because it is easy to see the transactions under your account and whether you are still waiting for a payout. It also makes it very easy to purchase weekly training and seasonal coaching and see the immediate impact to your bank account. The other thing that is an improvement over the ISFL is the index (even though it still isn’t very good in the SHL, it is still being improved). It is very easy to search for your players stats and advanced stats in the index, which can’t really be said in the ISFL. I also like the league because I am a hockey fan and it is really fun to develop your player and see your stats improve. There is just something fun about being a forward and have to fight your way from the third line to the first line. It’s different than football where positions are so varied and different, but I love both sports so I do like being more of a specialist in the ISFL.
22) LeBong Simwell has been hired by Aurora Cannabis to become the official spokesperson for their premium branded cannabis. Despite being a Canadian company, there is a huge following of Canadians that love New Orleans and LeBong specifically. Obviously his name has become a bit of a meme among Aurora’s core demographic, so it was a perfect opportunity for the company to get LeBong in some commercials talking about how Aurora is personally his favorite. Going to the Ultimus is a huge boon for LeBong personally and he is fully taking advantage of that to cash in on that sweet endorsement money. Most of the commercials are simply LeBong taking rips out of his signature 6 foot purple bong, looking at the camera in a haze, and trying to mumble something about Aurora. The commercials are pretty low quality, but for some reason that has made them go viral. LeBong is excited for the debut of a huge Aurora ad that will air during the Ultimus. In that commercial, LeBong is seen in a purple super man costume flying through the sky with a tail of smoke coming out of him. He turns to the camera, winks, and says “nothing gets you higher – Aurora.”
