A taco is a taco. Bread is what makes the difference, and a tortilla is what comes on a taco. A sandwich is two slices of bread (or if a submarine sandwich, one slice cut down the middle), typically with meat and other toppings. A hotdog goes in a hotdog bun, is meat, and has toppings. Therefore a hotdog is a sandwich of the submarine family.I posit to you the burrito It uses a tortilla the same as a taco but is a wholly covered Item.
Then we have the gryo with its thicker bread but also in a burrito wrap fashion.
A submarine sandwich is very clearly meant to be closed and have the ingredients piled up in the bottom half along with whatever sauce or cheese item. A hotdog has its meats sauces and cheese down the center with it wedged in between the fold of bread. A taco is also filled in the center of the bread and is folded to wedge the times inside between the fold of the bread instead of sanwiching the items between two slices of bread or one slice folded.
A hotdog is a taco.
