ready for grading, 2x - new user
Who the hell does DSFL draft predictions anyway? This guy! DSFL drafts (or anything DSFL related) is notoriously hard to predict. What’s more is that I’m a true rookie who’s still figuring things out. So in true sports writer fashion I’m going to talk about something I know nothing about and get paid for it! If I’m right I’m a genius, if I’m way off (and I probably will be) we can blame it on the nature of the DSFL. For the purposes of this mock I’m assuming that no on position switches. Given that every scout and GM that has talked to me has inquired about the possibility of a position switch, I think it’s very likely that will happen with some of these top drafted players. Tracking down who is willing to swap and theorizing where they might swap too is just adding too many variables. Let’s hope the GMs keep it simple for me. Enough with the boring stuff, let’s get guessing!
Bayley Cowabunga - WR (JKortesi81)
This pick seems to be the perfect blend of active user, high TPE earner, and position of need for Kansas City. S28 has a deep QB pool but that’s one spot where KC doesn’t need help. After that an WR or RB will probably be the next most influential position to get some talent. Given they have a good QB already, Cowabunga seems to make a lot of sense. Besides, my one interaction with Kortesi I walked away 2m richer so that can only help right?
: IsHe... ReallyInvisible - QB (JPach)
This is probably one of my most confident picks. From what I understand JPach has a history with the Tijuana Luchadores which should set them apart from the other prospects. Disregarding that Jpach is still one of the more active users and is recreating into a position of need for the Luchadores. Lastly, at least at the time of writing, they are the most successful QB in the prospect bowl. I know all of y’all just rolled your eyes at me but that could suggest that mobile QBs (which Invisible is) are the ‘meta’ in the DSFL.
Busch Goose - RB (infinitempg)
Running Back appears to be the biggest position of need for the Minnesota Grey Ducks, particularly with what appears to be the run game meta of the DSFL. (Sidenote, I know that we don’t know the meta for sure with the new sim). I’m predicting the Grey Ducks will look to fill the hole left by Madison Hayes with another active user who happens to be part of the sim team. That pretty much guarantees they won’t go inactive this season, which is really nice for the DSFL draft.
Luke Quick - WR (Bigred1580)
Not gunna lie, this one is a shot in the dark. From my untrained eye Dallas has no obvious need here in the first round. Luke Quick has already stockpiled a lot of TPE pre-draft and you can never have too many wide receivers. I wouldn’t be too surprised if there’s a defensive player I overlooked that could also go to Dallas in the first round. For now Luke is my best guess given how active BigRed appears to be at a position that will always be drafted high.
Raeni Clarke - QB (Bex)
At this point you probably think I’m biased against defensive players and OL but I promise I’m not trying to be. Bex has played for Norfolk before and QB is a position of need there so this seems like a match made in heaven. Of course having the commissioner playing for you pretty much guarantees one of the most active players will be on your roster. Only possible downside I see is that you know you’ll have to draft another QB soon when Raeni Clarke moves up to the ISFL.
Glenn Smart - DE (Pib)
This was another tough one. I cycled through a few picks before going with Glenn Smart, the first defensive player in my mock (and possibly the first new player?). Glenn has been doing well with pre draft TPE and shores up a depleted defensive line in London. Most importantly their discord profile picture is the Union Jack so it’s like they were made for the London Royals. Other players that I thought might go first round in the draft aren’t in the London locker room but perhaps I’m reading too much into that.
Prof. Godfrey Gravity - DT (z0rem)
That’s right, two defensive players in a row! I know nothing about the user themselves but they’ve been doing a stellar job on pre-draft TPE. I don’t know if they even have a discord but they appear to be a true rookie on the forums. Even if they have zero locker room presence (which I could be wrong about) I wouldn’t be able to ignore a max earner in a position of need. Besides, having a professor on your team is pretty neat.
Dexter Zaylren - QB (Laser)
Last but not least is our draft MVP! who I regretfully ignored, losing out on a few TPE… Anyway, Dexter is another one of the many top-tier QB prospects this season. Obviously any team would be happy with such a user and QB on their team. Other than that, not gunna lie, I’m trusting what some other users have told me here. Apparently Laser has a good relationship with BBB which makes this another great fit. If I’m wrong on this one I assume no responsibility. If I’m right...well you know the drill.
Whew, that was a lot of writing and thinking for a mock that I’m likely to score one or two right on. Anyway, I know a few other rookies are writing mock drafts for the DSFL and I’m looking forward to reading those as well as whatever your thoughts are in the comments! This was largely a learning experience for me so if you wanna drop some knowledge on me feel free to do so.
Also, if people are interested enough I’ll attempt to do a second round as well. There are some very sexy prospects that I didn’t find a place for in this first round like Sam the Onion Man, Saleem Spence, Dexter Hall, Stumpy Jones, etc.
