I need to make clear before anyone reads this review, I am purely judging these picks based on the impact ON THE FIELD as players. So you may have a player that involves a user who has become a GM or a great member of the war room etc. etc. That won’t factor into my judging. Anyway, now that that’s all cleared up, on to the draft review!
Round One
Pick 1-Chicago Butchers-Juan Domine-ILB
User: Maglubiyet
Starting TPE-246
Current TPE-796
Difference-+550
Juan Domine has been nothing but a boon for a surging Chicago team, especially for their defense. Some will argue that ILB is the most important spot for any defense and Domine has and will lock that spot up for many more years to come. With one of the largest TPE gains over the last 3 seasons Mag has clearly focused on developing his player into one of the best in the league.
Pick 2-San Jose Sabercats-Joshua Campbell-WR
User: Buttersqauch101
Starting TPE-252
Current TPE-663
Difference-+411
One of my least favorite picks in this draft, entirely because I lost $1M because of it, Campbell is slight overshadowed in this draft because of the accomplishments of other young Wide Receivers around the league and especially on his own team (*cough* Doug Howlett *cough*) That shouldn’t however take away from his efforts and accomplishments helping establish Baltimore’s receiving core as one of the best if not the best in the league. With a smaller than optimal TPE gain of only 411, many will question whether Butters is truly worthy of the prestigious No.2 slot, and fairly so, but he is still talented all the same.
Pick 3-Honolulu Hahalua-Asher Montain-DL
User: Attopax
Starting TPE-265
Current TPE-678
Difference-+413
Asher Montain wasn’t a particularly controversial pick at the time of the draft, Attopax was a well known and respected user, and still is, but Montain hasn’t kept up with other top-earners in his class. Luckily at his current position along the defensive line, earning isn’t as important, so the impact of this hasn’t been felt nearly as harshly as current IA’s. That’s not to say Montain hasn’t earned well, 678 is a very respectable total, but it’s undeniable that a top-3 pick has more expected of them.
Pick 4-Sarasota Sailfish-Harrison Andrews-DL/CB
User: ABH89
Starting TPE-215
Current TPE-762
Difference-+547
Our first position swap of the draft, though certainly not the last, Harrison Andrews went from the defensive line, to the much more earning-intensive defensive backs. A good swap for the Sailfish if you ask me, as ABH’s earning might have gone to waste along the defensive line. 547 is one of the best earning totals in the class and Andrews has shown no signs of slowing down. It’s hard to call a 4th overall pick a “steal” but if you could, Andrews would certainly qualify.
Pick 5-Baltimore Hawks-Maverick Bowie-S
User: Tonzy
Starting TPE-225
Current TPE-783
Difference-+558
The first Safety of the class, and one of only a handful that remain active, Bowie has paid off in dividends for the Copperheads. Baltimore has to be slightly disappointed that they let a premium safety get away after drafting her with a top-5 pick, and that hurts the Hawks review of this draft, but looking at it purely from the position of Bowie, such a trade could be considered a blessing, as Austin is a lot more functional than Baltimore.
Pick 6-Arizona Outlaws-Gunnar Thorbjornsson-WR/HB
User: Z-Whiz
Starting TPE-212
Current TPE-758
Difference-+546
Thorbjornsson couldn’t quite hang with the big boys at the WR position in Arizona but has nonetheless found resurgent success as the team's main HB, especially after Petrongolo was lost in the next season's expansion draft. Gunnar has earned 546 TPE since being drafted and has definitely earned his 1st round pedigree.
Pick 7-New Orleans Second Line-Quentin Button-S
User: PPPaul317
Starting TPE-246
Current TPE-372
Difference-+126
The first bust of the draft class, PPPaul’s Quentin Button hasn’t posted an update since October 19th. Button is currently a free-agent unlikely to have any sort of career resurgence. Particularly disappointing since he showed so much promise down in the DSFL and initially after being drafted. This pick is a good warning that drafting is hard, and anyone can bust (*sniff* Phat Boi *sniff*)
Pick 8-Austin Copperheads-Zoe Watts-HB
User: Kyamprac
Starting TPE-268
Current TPE-804
Difference-+536
Those of you who have followed my postings around the league know how much I’ve loved Watts around the league and Watts has earned that praise and more with her on-the-field performance. She has been perhaps the best offensive player in the class and has a strong earning of 536 TPE since being drafted. At 804 TPE, Watts is the highest non-QB in the class.
Pick 9-Colorado Yeti-Melvin Murder-Moose-K/ILB
User: SchwarzNarr
Starting TPE-195
Current TPE-754
Difference-+559
Melvin Murder-Moose, otherwise known as Schwaz around the league has been yet another successful position change, from K to LB and now also GM, you won’t catch anyone in Colorado complaining about the pick. Schwarz has been a tremendous leader both off and on the field and a top earner, which is impressive considering how much lower than her peers she was before the draft started.
Pick 10-Orange County Otters-Joseph Joestar-QB/ILB
User: Lime
Starting TPE-257
Current TPE-707
Difference-+450
One of the most questioned picks in the draft, Joestar has swapped from QB to LB after the much more impressive Ramza has taken over the teams most crucial position. A good thing too, as a decent +450 TPE at most positions, simply isn’t enough for an ISFL QB.
Pick 11-Philadelphia Liberty-Dorothy Zbornak-DL/CB
User: Slothman07
Starting TPE-222
Current TPE-623
Difference-+401
Another rather questionable pick in hindsight, Zbornak probably should’ve stayed at DL, since he’s only earned around 400 TPE since the draft. At first he had a bit of an early lead because of a head start at creation, but now 3 seasons later that lead is lost and Zbornak is only falling further and further back in he class TPE totals.
Pick 12-Yellowknife Wraiths-Brach Tomaslacher-LB
User: RDBSouthPaw
Starting TPE-236
Current TPE-786
Difference-+550
Tomaslacher is probably in the top 3 of 1st round picks of the class with Watts and Moose, especially with 550 TPE gained since the draft, and a total of 786 TPE. A class dominated by great defensive players, Tomaslacher is definitely a steal for the Wraiths.
