David Ramczyk has always been a big kid growing up. He was always taller and stronger than the children around him during grade school. It was during middle school that he ever thought about playing football. He has played catch and had run around with his friends but he had never watched or participated in an organized football game. He actually did not start playing football on his own. His friend and he made a bet to see who would last the longest playing the sport.
Flash forward to high school and Ramczyk had become a powerhouse. After finding out how to correctly lift weights and training hard during off-seasons and in-season. Ramczyk was a monster on the field. He was bigger and stronger and faster than any other linemen he went against. Nobody could get past the brick wall that was Ramczyk. After 4 hard-fought years, Ramczyk and his team were finally able to win a state championship his senior year. Throughout his junior and senior season, Ramczyk was getting looked at and offered by many different colleges. Being so south in New Jersey many of the big-name schools did not send scouts that far down into New Jersey. Many offers from division 2 and low division 1 schools came though but one offer was above the rest. A fully paid scholarship from the Unvisety of Rutgers. Ramczyk had worked so hard for this opportunity and he was not going to waste it.
The start of David's freshmen year did not go how he had planned. He had hoped to be able to make the starting rotation and become a true freshman but he was just not ready for it. So while he spent more time on the scout team and working out. Ramczyk was able to get even stronger and even faster than before. The redshirt freshmen year was a blessing in disguise for the linemen. He was able to learn the playbook at his pace and was able to focus on getting his weight up and become ready for next year. David's sophomore year started out better than the last. Ramczyk was able to make it onto the starting rotation and became a backup. However, something unexpected happened, the starter offensive linemen in front of David went down with an injury. This was David's time to take the starting spot and never look back. And never look back he did. Ramczyk went on to start every single snap the rest of his sophomore season and help the Scarlet Knights finish with a .500 season.
Junior year was David's time to be a full-time starter for the Scarlet Knights. Ramczyk was going to one of the starting five and began to get a little more attention from the nation. Throughout all his snaps Ramczyk gave up only 1 sack even against some of the top college football teams in the nation. Ramczyk and his fellow linemen even got an honorable mention when talking about the Joe Moore award which is given to the best offensive line in the entire nation. Ramczyk even himself was somewhat in the conversation to win the Rimmington-Pace award given to the best offensive/defensive linemen in the Big 10 conference.
Ramczyk decided to stay for his final year and compete with his brothers one last time. The Scarlet Knights would go on to have their best performance in the last 15 years. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights went 12-1. The Knights had qualified for a bowl game and were super excited to be in it. Their opponent would be Texas A&M in the Capital One Orange bowl. The Knights didn't even seem to break a sweat during the game. Rutgers came out huge and ran for an Orange Bowl record of 461 rushing yards. The Knights ran right behind Ramczyk the whole time and were able to destroy the Texas A&M Aggies. After the incredible run by the Knights, Ramczyk went on to win the Rimmington-Pace Award, made the All-Big 10 Ftoobal Team, and was named an All-American in his final season. Ramczyk had won all the awards he could ever want but now it was time to focus on the draft. Ramczyk was excited and hopeful to hear his name on draft night. He wanted to be apart of the ISFL and become one of the greatest linemen of all time.
Only time will tell if he can become the greatest there ever was.
