Smith: “Welcome everyone to the Second Take show I am your host Steven B. Smith. Today I got something quite special for you guys. We are going to be having an interview with one of Tijuana’s returning players from last season the corner back from Hawaii, Buck Nekkid. Good morning Buck how are you doing today?”
Nekkid: “I’m doing good Steven, excited to be on the show.”
Smith: “Great to hear now I gotta ask is Buck Nekkid your real given name or is it just some sort of nickname or maybe did you have it changed yourself?”
Nekkid: (Nekkid laughs) “Yeah I get asked this quite a bit and well it is my given name and is the one that is on my birth certificate. Now I know what you’re thinking. Why the heck would you name your son something like that and well I can tell you I have no idea. But besides the name they gave me my parents are nothing but great people and I couldn’t have asked for better ones.”
Smith: “That is crazy to hear. I am gonna need to have a talk with your parents one day to figure out their thought process. Now this is gonna be your second season in the DSFL with Tijuana. How do you feel about the situation.”
Nekkid: “Well as you know I was drafted by the New Orleans Second Line NOLA for short and although I can say I am disappointed in myself for not being good enough to be called up, I am quite happy to give it another run with the Luchadores and try to bring them their ninth Ultimini.”
Smith: “Well that’s good to hear. There’s always a bright side. How are you gonna change things from last season?”
Nekkid: “Last season I had a bunch of veterans and coaches helping me out so this season I plan to pass it on to the next group of guys. I wanna push the new guys to get better and teach them how the league works so they can become successful players in this league.”
Smith: “Awesome awesome. As the de facto number 1 cornerback on your team you’re most likely gonna be tasked with covering the best wide receivers this league has to offer. How do you think you’re gonna fair against them and is there anyone in specific you think might be a tough matchup?”
Nekkid: “People don’t come to this league because they are decent or bad players so I know I am gonna have my hands full no matter who I am lining up against. But I didn’t train my butt off all these years for nothing and I have put myself in the best position I feel to succeed and keep up with and even beat those guys out right so I think I will hold my own. As for who I think might be a tough matchup you gotta be wary of Kendrick Watts. He didn’t go first overall in the ISFL draft for nothing and as a send down like myself he is sure to be one of the top wide outs. Now that doesn’t mean I am gonna lose to him on the contrary it just means I’m gonna try harder to shut him down.”
Smith: “Sounds like we might have something great to look forward to this season. Now to the people who will be throwing the ball to those players. A lot of rookies are gonna be taking up the reins of the offense and starting at quarterback this season. Is this something you’ve kept your eye on?”
Nekkid: “Well of course I always scout out my opponents so I know well that there’s gonna be a lot of new quarter backs this year but like I said earlier they didn’t get into the league because they are bad players. Even though they are rookies they are gonna be good opponents and I look forward to seeing how they fair. Even my own quarter back is a rookie and man that dude could probably sling a ball over the mountains if he wanted to.”
Smith: “Yeah going up against a good quarter back in practice must help out a lot.”
Nekkid: “Yeah it does help quite a bit but sometimes it can be pretty demoralizing (Nekkid Laughs). Some days when he’s on his game no matter how good your coverage is or how good you’re feeling that day he still manages to squeeze it by you. Plus the way it’s nearly impossible to read his eyes makes it that much harder. I mean it’s so hard you really start to wonder if he really is invisible. Going up against a guy like that every day has made our secondary a lot better though and we look to fight to be one of the best in the league this season.”
Smith: “That must be rough but good luck. Now tell me a bit about the team you’re gonna be joining in the ISFL. How have they been treating you and have you gotten to meet many of the guys?”
Nekkid: “I have been to the locker room a couple times when I was first drafted as they wanted to see what I could do at the next level and I also met quite a few of the guys. I even got to meet the legend himself Forest Gump. Man I remember when I was younger watching him run the ball and the way he almost seemed untouchable. I was a little star struck if I’m honest. I mean this guy was the reason I started out as a running back.”
Smith: “That’s right you use to be a running back in your college days but as soon as you joined the DSFL you transitioned to Corner back. What led you to this and how was the transition?”
Nekkid: “Well I can thank my DSFL coaches for that. They noticed the potential I had as a corner back and as soon as I joined the team they asked me to try it out for a while. I must say I think they made the right choice as last season I was runner up for corner back of the year and this year I am looking to make my case for winning it this time. Honestly the transition though was quite hard as my whole life I imagined myself as a running back but sometimes you just gotta go with the flow and everything will work itself out in the end.
Smith: “Well I for one am glad we got to see you make the switch as it has been a joy to watch you and you have had quite some good battles in only your first season in the league. Now the season has only just started. How are you feeling about your teams chances to make it all the way after honestly a pretty disappointing last season?”
Nekkid: “Yeah I can be the first to admit that well last season was quite the disappointment to not only ourselves but also to our fans. We came off of a season where we won the Ultimini to being the worst team in our conference so that definitely hurt. But this year we plan on making it all up to them. Our team is looking solid and I think we honestly have a good chance at making it to the promise land once again and hopefully winning another trophy. Our offense is looking great especially our deadly duo at running back and our defense is also nothing to sneeze at with our secondary looking to be one of the best in the league. This year we plan to come out swinging and surprise some people. That is if us having a good season would even be a surprise. (Nekkid Laughs)”
Smith: “Well good luck on your goals and that’s about all the questions I have. Did you want to say anything to your fans or anyone else who might be listening in today?”
Nekkid: “Of course. To my fans thank you so much for supporting the team and I. This season we will try our best not to let you down. To any of my teammates or coaches who may be listening in. We have a lot of work to do but let’s get to the promise land. And last but not least to my opponents. You better bring your A game because I sure will be. For you Wide receivers I will be matching up against it’s just gonna be me and you on Nekkid Island.”
Smith: “Well that is all for today. Thank you so much for coming on Buck Nekkid and once again good luck on your season.”
Nekkid: “Nah thank you for having me it has been a pleasure chatting with you.
Nekkid: “I’m doing good Steven, excited to be on the show.”
