So I do still need money, I’m further in league debt than I was when I wrote my last article and am fairly sure that I am now a bottom 10 user in the league in wealth as it stands (so please pay this quickly I beg), so for this article I’ll basically just do what I did in my last article and predict the results of the games from the upcoming group of fixtures in the international simulation football league, which is week 9 this time. Before I do that though I’ll look at my week 8 predictions and see how that went.
Week 8 results :
Game 1 : YKW @ HON
My Prediction : YKW win 30-26
Correct Score : HON win 38-14
Well I can say for sure that I definitely was not expecting this. I said in my previous thread that this would be one of the closer games of the week, and boy was I wrong. Honolulu prevailed thanks to a big performance from their running back Ayers, and move to a 6-2 record.
Game 2 : CHI @ SJS
My Prediction : SJS win 21-17
Correct Score : SJS win 34-30
This was a good prediction. People were split on who was gonna win his one and a lot back CHI, but I predicted SJS by 4 and that’s what went down, the difference being I predicted a much more defensive matchup to what went down. The win was done in spectacular fashion too, with SJS coming back from a point deficit in the fourth quarter to take home the win.
Game 3 : SAR @ AZ
My Prediction : SAR win 38-34
Correct Score : AZ win 17-14
The inverse of the last game here, with me expecting a high scoring game and a low scoring one coming. Obviously I was a bit biased selecting Sarasota for this one, but I wouldn’t have been surprised if they had won it and they surely should have looking at what happened. They turned the ball over with 43 seconds on the clock and then conceded a 60 yard pass touchdown to win the game for AZ on the very next play.
Game 4 : COL @ OCO
My Prediction : OCO win 17-6
Score : COL win 44-17
Wow. I predicted OCO to pick up their dire form at home against the Yeti and boy was. Despite having some decent performances from players the Otters got completely bossed out of the game and beaten very comfortably. But hey, at least I got OCOs score right.
Game 5 : BER @ AUS
My Prediction : AUS win 23-13
Correct Score : BER win 20-19
God I had a shit week looking at it. My fourth incorrect and Austin drop to 2-6. To quote myself “I believe it will be won or lost by the play of their qb,” in reference to Austin and this was somehow both right and wrong. Daytona had a sub 60 passer rating in a poor game but Austin still definitely could have won, so I guess this is a testament to the predicting week I had.
Game 6 : BAL @ NYS
My Prediction : NYS win 38-10
Correct Score : NYS win 20-0
I really overestimated Baltimore’s offense for this game. Not only did the Hawks not score once, they didn’t even look like scoring once, mustering up just 236 yards of total offense. On the NYS side of things I overestimated their offense too, but they really didn’t need to do much to win this one. This game just goes to show how Baltimore games are easy prediction points.
Game 7 : PHI @ NOLA
My prediction : NOLA win 30-17
Correct Score : NOLA win 30-16
This game was far and away my best prediction for Week 8, missing out on the correct score by just a single Philadelphia point. I predicted that the Second Line would have a comfortable home win at home to the Liberty and I was bang on, that’s what happened. Another big performance from their MVP level quarterback in Slothlisberger helped them move to 3-5 and 5th in the division.
So all in all, a pretty shit week of predictions for me and I’d hope to do much better for week 9. 3 out of 7 predictions isn’t great and only nets me 2 tpe, whereas I’d be looking to grab 5 correct for the 3 TPE each week. With that said, onto the Week 9 Predictions.
Game 1 : Orange County Otters @ Yellowknife Wraiths
Two teams who’s seasons have taken pretty different paths face off in this week 9 matchup. One 5-3 and sitting at the top of their division, the other 2-6 and would be bottom of their division, save for their divisional record being better than the Copperheads. For this game I feel relatively confident predicting a Wraiths win, and expect it to be comfortably in their favour, as OCO still struggle to find the end-zone on a consistent basis.
My Prediction : Orange County Otters 14-27 Yellowknife Wraiths
Game 2 : Austin Copperheads @ Chicago Butchers
This week is a bit of a contrast from last week in that a good few of the games are between teams with very different records. Another 2-6 @ 5-3 matchup and for this one I forecast another home victory. Despite hitting a poor stretch of form the Butchers still have what is clearly one of the most talented rosters in the league, and I expect the Chicago defense to cause opposing quarterback Daytona issues all game.
My Prediction : Austin Copperheads 16-33 Chicago Butchers
Game 3 : New Orleans Second Line @ Sarasota Sailfish
Waddaya know, instead of a 2-6 @ 5-3 matchup we’ve been so generously gifted with a 3-5 @ 5-3 matchup. I will say I don’t think the Second Line are a 3-5 team, I’d probably say .500 at least but that’s the way the sim sims. This is for sure going to be an offensive matchup as two of the best in the league duke it out in this one, but I think the Sailfish are strong enough on the other side to give them the edge, but don’t be surprised if a difference in qb play sees NOLA take this.
My Prediction : New Orleans Second Line 22-27 Sarasota Sailfish
Game 4 : New York Silverbacks @ Colorado Yeti
Finally we see a game between teams with even records and honestly with Home Field Advantage being lesser this season this is a bit of a tough one to call. This a game between two very stout defenses and well rounded rosters, I just think that the Yeti will be able to get the upper hand in this matchup, having probably the better offense (number 1 in the league as a matter of fact).
My Prediction : New York Silverbacks 10-17 Colorado Yeti
Game 5 : Honolulu Hahalua @ Berlin Fire Salamanders
One of the most surprising teams in my eyes in Honolulu visit Berlin, who I think are probably having one of the more disappointing seasons, although I suppose they are still in playoff contention. On paper, the advantage is probably with the Fire Salamanders and last season (with the HFA) I would have picked them, but the Hahalua have just been too impressive this season to look past so I’ve got to take them, Berlin winning is very possible though.
My Prediction : Honolulu Hahalua 26-17 Berlin Fire Salamanders
Game 6 : Arizona Outlaws @ Baltimore Hawks
For this game, it’s not really a matter of who and more of how much. I overestimated the Hawks somewhat last week but here I fully expect Arizona to wipe the floor with them. All this being said, if there was any team I would expect to lose to the 0-8 Hawks at home it would be these Outlaws. I’m still gonna predict a blowout though, of course.
My Prediction : Arizona Outlaws 45-6 Baltimore Hawks
Game 7 : San Jose Sabercats @ Philadelphia Liberty
This game right here is the one I’m predicting for the upset this week. The Sabercats have been stellar this season and are sitting pretty at 6-2 while Philly are basically out of the playoff race at 2-6, however I simply get the feeling this will end close and in the Libertys favour, although I am a big idiot and wrong a lot of the time.
My Prediction : San Jose Sabercats 20-21 Philadelphia Liberty
So there we have it, my week 9 predictions. 2 away victories and 5 home victories, and to be perfectly honest with a week like this I’d be pretty disappointed to not walk away with 3 TPE. As I said in the paragraph just gone though, I am an idiot. Hopefully this will take me out of debt but I get the feeling I’ll be writing another one pretty soon, to prevent my weekly training cheque from bouncing.
