* This actually happened to me and is why I went IA. I believe I told my team about it but not sure. Either way I m sorry to my teammates and GMs that had faith when they dealt for me.*
So after a stint in rehab Dexter Jackson is still going to pursue his dream of professional ball. Most probably dont know this but one Saturday afternoon after practice Dexter made a bad decision that almost cost him his life. While outside his house a neighbor yelled over and asked him if he wanted to party. Now Dex had never really turned down a chance to party but he has kids of his own now. He yelled back that he couldnt because the kids was inside.
The neighbor yelled back to just come over real quick and do a little something and go back home. Against his better judgement he said ok. He ran inside and told his oldest he would be right back. He was just running over to the neighbors real quick. Upon arriving at the neighbors he realized he was in over his head. There in front of him was a line of H. Now Dex had tried it once before years ago and it wasn't for him but it was around Christmas, his fathers birthday who he had lost a few months before, so he was down and having a hard time. Well he decided a little wont kill him so he did a little line.
He went straight back home but knew something wasn't right. He was only gone about 5 minutes, he sat down on his couch and was playing his Xbox when he started pouring sweat. I mean it was like he just got out of the shower. He got a towel but he was soaked as soon as he wiped his head. While sitting there he dropped his controller out of nowhere. I remember looking down and thinking oh shit this isnt good as I reached forward to grab it. That was it, I was gone. My 5 year old came into the room and tried waking me. He screamed and cried in my face to no response. He ran upstairs and got the neighbor who came down and found me unresponsive with no pulse and blue. He called 911 and started CPR. I took a breath apparently before they got to me I m told. They put two shots of narcatan into me and boom. Next thing I know my eyes shot open with police and paramedics around me along with my brother and mom. I was scared and panicked. I asked if my kids was ok they said yes. I wanted to see them but I was hyperventilating and passed back out. Woke up in hospital and panicked again before passing back out. I finally woke up with my mom in my hospital room and spoke with her to get what happened.
It was then I decided I needed a break to fix myself. Not only for my wife and myself but mainly for my children. No kid should see a parent like that. I decided I had to quit being selfish with the partying and all. Its not about me having a good time anymore. Its about my kids now. My son is my hero. He saved my life that day because I did a stupid selfish act. I went to rehab to better myself and my family.
I will say this, to anyone having problems dont be afraid to ask for help and talk to someone. Please before its to late. Not everyone lives to tell their story but I was lucky and can. If it helps anyone then I did what I needed to do. Hopefully it does, thats why im sharing my story. Addicts are trained tone ashamed of their disease but we shouldnt be because everyone has demons. Just how well you hide them is what determines how people judge others. People stereotype addicts as thieves, liars, worthless. Not all are like that, I take care of my family bills, rent and food. Ive never stolen from anyone to support my habit, which it wasnt H as that was the second time I had ever tried it. I worked and went home but did occasionally have something on me and have to hide it. I m done with that way of life. I will be back this coming up season to help Baltimore get back on top. I let my teammates and fans down but hopefully I can prove myself again to them. Thank you and thats all I have.
* Please no negative comments as I beat myself up daily for what happened. Thank you*
