Somehow my team keeps winning. And the team that's winning is not the blatantly overpowered one, just the one that is an amazing team. Alrighty, time for the breakdown.
Chicago Butchers at Yellowknife Wraiths:
Butchers Rushers:
Baby Yoda: 4/16
Julio Tirtawidjaja: 2/5
Wraiths Rushers:
Acura Skyline: 4/13
Jameson Vermillion: 1/7
Colby Jack: 0/1
I remember when a number of these runners were among our most consistent runners of the season. Some of them have fallen very far from that point, Baby Yoda chiefly among them. This week will probably put him under Zoe Watts, who was the worst rusher in the league at the time Yoda was among the best. Then again, Yoda often got the benefit of favorable down-and-distance, as well as the best line in the league by far. This week, Yoda did all of his damage during the 2nd quarter, where he pulled off all 4 of his successful runs, two of which were short yardage (3 yard gain on 2nd and 4, 2 yard gain on 2nd and 3). It's telling that Yoda is barely over 4 yards per carry when he has a long of 43. Take it out and he bottoms out at 1.6 yards per carry from 4.2. Yoda's inability to keep the chains moving has been a huge part of the Butchers' poor scoring output in 3 of their last 5 games. Julio Tirtawidjaja's 2 successes were a 4 yard gain on 2nd and 8, and a 1 yard touchdown run.
Skyline didn't have quite as awful of a game efficiency-wise as Yoda, but it wasn't exactly good. Two of Skyline's successes were 1 yard gains on 2nd and 2, while his 2 other successes were a 7 yard carry on 3rd and inches right after one of those runs, and a 15 yard carry on 4th and 1. Somewhat notable is that Skyline had 2 failures on 1st and 2nd and goal, leading to a short field goal at a point where a touchdown could have gotten them back in the game. Skyline's yards per carry falls to 1.75 from 2.8 once you take out his long of 15. Vermillion had the worst game of anyone by far, with his only success coming from a 2 yard gain on 2nd and 4. He only had a long of 3, and was never really robbed on any carry.
Sarasota Sailfish at Philadelphia Liberty:
Sailfish Rushers:
Raphtalia Chan: 7/20
Running Back: 1/4
Liberty Rushers:
Darrell Williams: 4/15
Sam Torenson: 1/11
Chan started out wonderfully, being successful on 4 of her first 6 carries. Then the 2nd half arrived, where Chan only had 2 successes and one of them was immediately cancelled out by a carry for no gain on 2nd down. Suffice to say, Chan started out strong but ended up barely over 33% for the night. She also gets hit somewhat hard by the remove long method, falling to 3.3 from 4.5 by removing her long of 28. Back's only success was a 1 yard gain on 2nd and Inches.
Williams, similarly to Chan, started out looking great, although for him he got the benefit of getting to carry the ball on 3rd and -1 for 1 yard. At that point he had 2 successes to 2 failures. His last success was halfway through the 3rd quarter, and he would not succeed for any of his 5 remaining carries in the game. He also takes quite a significant hit from the Remove Long method, falling to 1.6 yards per carry from 2.3, and over half of his remaining yards came from 2 other successful carries. He was extremely feast or famine to the point of actually being successful while also having a bit of famine. As for Torenson, he had the biggest open to worst end of all, with a 4 yard carry on 1st and 10 for his first run, followed by 10 straight unsuccessful carries.
Baltimore Hawks at Colorado Yeti:
Hawks Rushers:
Matthias Hanyadi: 1/14
Mai Fukushu: 0/2
Yeti Rushers:
Richard Gilbert: 12/18
Matthias Caliban: 0/1
Anders Christiansen: 1/1
And there goes one of the best and brightest in terms of efficiency, killed mercilessly at the hands of the Hawks' terrible Oline that was just recently made even worse. Hanyadi only had 1 run of 4 yards or more, and that came on a 1st and 15 so it wasn't even successful. His only success was a 2 yard carry on 2nd and 3. Would you believe me if I said that Baltimore was winning at some point during this game? With this, Hanyadi goes from his position hovering around 50% for the entire season to 35% in a single game.
Gilbert, to compare, had one of the best games of the entire week. While he does take a bit of a hit from removing his 40 yard long touchdown run, it only has him fall to 6.2 from 8.1. Only 2 of his successes were short yardage, a 3 yard gain on 2nd and 2, and a 2 yard gain on 3rd and 1. While one of his successes was ruined by a failure right afterwards (a 6 yard run on 2nd and 10 followed by a 0 yard run on 3rd and 4) he also managed to make up for one of his failures with a success (a 1 yard gain on 2nd and 3 followed by a 15 yard run on 3rd and 1). Gilbert had almost as many double digit runs, 5, as he had failures in total. Anders Christiansen's lone success was a 10 yard run at the end of the game.
Berlin Fire Salamanders at New York Silverbacks:
Salamanders Rushers:
Joseph Petrongolo: 7/11
Terry Yaki: 0/4
Silverbacks Rushers:
Captain Rogers: 9/18
Ashley Owens: 2/3
Sam Howitzer: 0/1
Buster Bawlls: 0/1
The last 3 rushing games I've gone over have included a game where neither team had a great day rushing, a game where one team had a great day rushing and the other team was terrible, and now a game where both teams were great. Petrongolo in particular was almost masterful on the night, with 5.7 yards per carry even after taking out his long of 21, 7.1 yards per carry overall, and almost 66% efficiency. He did have a couple short yardage successes, a 3 yard carry on 1st and Goal from the 7, and a 3 yard touchdown run, as well as a 2 yard carry on 2nd and 4, but he had 4 double digit length carries that set up multiple scoring drives and would have set up more if not for turnovers.
Rogers gets absolutely destroyed by the Remove Long method, with a 45 yard long that when taken out causes his yards per carry to fall to 3.3. That being said, he still manages to have a 50% yard per carry. This is in part due to 2 back to back short yardage successes (a short gain on 2nd and 1 and a 2 yard gain on 3rd and inches) and how almost all of his yards were clustered around his successes. He had 94 yards of his 101 on his 9 successful carries. He had 3 carries of at least double digits and a couple more carries of over 5 yards. Owens' two successes were a 4 yard carry on 4th and inches and a 4 yard carry on 1st and 10.
New Orleans Second Line at Honolulu Hahalua:
Second Line Rushers:
Mr Forty Two: 2/7
Mike Rotchburns: 0/7
Forrest Gump: 0/1
Hahalua Rushers:
Nicholas Ayers: 5/8
Cobra Kai: 4/7
How did the Second Line win this game again? It certainly wasn't through their rushing attack at least until the end. Mr Forty Two's only success for most of the day, as well as the only success the Second Line had at all, was a 1 yard carry on 2nd and inches. His long at that point for the day was 2 yards. Then he pulled off a 16 yard touchdown run to put the Second Line on top for the day. As you might expect, he gets absolutely destroyed by the Remove Long method, considering that contained all but 3 of his yards on the day. He falls from 2.7 yards per carry to 0.5 yards per carry. Still, he was the only running back with any successes on the Second Line. Rotchburns only had a long of 4, and it came immediately after a 2 yard run and a 0 yard run from him on 1st and 2nd down, so it didn't even matter that it was on a 1st and 20. Without that 4 yard rush, Rotchburns actually falls to 0.8 yards per carry, not counting his 1 yard rush on the unsuccessful 2 point conversion.
Both Hahalua rushers had over a 50% success rate on the day, a stark contrast to the Second Line rushers. Granted, a majority of Ayers successes were short yardage, with one 3 yard carry and two 2 yard carries. However, both of his other carries were double digit, a 25 yarder and his long of 41. Minus that, he falls to 5.1 yards per carry from 9.6. Still, he was at least able to clean up on situations that other rushers haven't been able to do this season. Kai was more feast and famine than the people I usually describe as feast or famine, on his 3 unsuccessful rushes he got literally 0 yards. His successful carries were a 2 yard gain on 1st and Goal from the 5, a 7 yard gain on 1st and 10, and two double digit length carries, a 12 yarder and a 20 yarder. He does fall to 3.5 yards per carry if you take out his 20 yard run.
San Jose Sabercats at Orange County Otters:
Sabercats Rushers:
Jamar Lackson: 3/14
Rando Cardrissian: 4/9
Otters Rushers:
Ace Savage: 6/13
Jeffrey Phillips: 7/12
Bronko Mills: 2/3
What happened to the Sabercats' rushing attack? I said before the season started that they had probably the best pair, considering they brought a top 3 running back along with another top 10 running back to the table. Lackson's first run of the day was an 8 yard success, but then followed that up with a 1 yard failure on 3rd down in the same series. His other two successes were a 10 yard run and a 7 yard run. He falls from 2.9 to 2.4 once you take out that 10 yard long. Cardrissian had a single short yardage success, a 2 yard gain on 2nd and 2, but the rest of his successes were earned. He pulled off back to back double digit carries that got the Sabercats into field goal range for one of their only scoring drives on the day. That being said, as per usual when one carry is over half of your yards, Rando is heavily hit by the remove long method, as he falls to 2.6 yards per carry from 6 yards per carry.
As you might expect with a near 50% success rate and a 2.5 yard per carry, Savage does have a number of short yardage successes to his name, including a 1 yard touchdown run, and 2 short yardage runs I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on. He had a 4 yard gain on 1st down, a 3 yard gain on 2nd, and a 2 yard gain on 3rd, all successes, getting his team a first down. Since he was completely responsible for moving the chains, I'm much more inclined to look kindly on those successes than others where they were set up by other people. Such as, for example, Phillips opening with 4 straight successes, half of which were short yardage, and getting another short yardage success later in the day. His 30 yard touchdown run does a huge amount of the heavy lifting in the yards per carry department; without it he falls to 2.9 from 5.2. As for Bronko Mills, he got 4 yards and 6 yards on his 2 successes and his only failure was an inability to convert a 2 point conversion.
Austin Copperheads at Arizona Outlaws:
Copperheads Rushers:
Zoe Watts: 6/16
Jim the Vampire: 2/6
Outlaws Rushers:

Watts had a great 2nd quarter, and a subpar 1st quarter. She went 2/3 in that period, including a 5 yard carry on 1st and 10 and a 3 yard carry on the 2nd and 5 right afterwards. Watts also got a couple other short yardage successes, a 2 yard carry on 2nd and 2, and a 2 yard gain on a 2 point conversion. It's somewhat notable that Watts got a touchdown on a drive that she was mostly carried in spite of herself on, going 0/3 beforehand on that drive. Considering how many short yardage successes she had, it's not that big of a surprise she had a yards per carry of 2. Meanwhile, Jim the Vampire never got a single rush longer than 2 and only got any successes due to being fed carries on X and Inches at 2 separate points, and getting 1 yard on each.
Behold, the Feast or Famine performance of a lifetime! Nakamura benefitted from 2 short yardage successes, a 3 yard gain on 3rd and 2 and a 1 yard gain on 2nd and 1, but the rest of his 4 successes each were double digits. 10 yards, 27 yards, a 56 yard touchdown, and a long of 66. The only one of these that didn't set up a touchdown was the one that was immediately followed up with an interception. His successes contained 163 of his 165 yards; the rest of the time he had a 0.25 yard per carry average. Thorbjornsson's only carry was a 5 yard gain on 1st and 10.
