For those of you who don't stalk the TPE leaderboard and/or Frost's update page, @Frostbite aka Sarasota S21 running back Raphtalia Chan, is the peak TPE leader with 1511 TPE, beating out S16 CB Dermot Lavelle Jr. for number one on the list.
That's cool and all, but where did Frost get this TPE? How does his earning compare to ht previous top earner? I will tell you in this article.
Grouped by source in descending order:
Predictions (weekly/season/playoff): 324 TPE / 21.44% of total
Weekly training: 310 / 20.52%
Equipment: 240 / 15.88%
Activity checks: 124 / 8.21%
Point tasks (including the in-season ones, not including special offseason PTs): 116 / 7.68%
Ultimus week: 80 / 5.29%
Trivia (not including the offseason one): 72 / 4.77%
Training camp: 56 / 3.71%
Mock drafts: 52 / 3.44%
Starting TPE: 50 / 3.31%
Wiki (creation and updates): 38 / 2.51%
Fantasy: 21 / 1.39%
Recruitment: 12 / 0.79%
Offseason tasks (PT and trivia): 9 / 0.6%
Other special 1-off: 7 / 0.46%
Total: 1511
If I had a lot more time, I'd compare how well Frost did on predictions and mocks vs. the league to see if his totals were a result of being skillful at doing those. What I can do much more easily is say that getting 21 points from fantasy (4 first places, 1 third place) in the presumably 8 eligible seasons is solidly above average (expected value assuming placement is random is ~1.33/season so ~13 for 8 seasons).
How does that compare with Dermot?
Weekly training: 315 TPE / 21.14% of total
Predictions: 306 / 20.54
Equipment: 248 / 16.64%
Trivia: 127 / 8.52%
Activity checks: 118 / 7.92%
Point tasks: 90 / 6.04%
Ultimus week: 80 / 5.37%
Training camp: 56 / 3.76%
Starting TPE: 50 / 3.36%
Mocks: 50 / 3.36%
Wiki: 25 / 1.68%
Fantasy: 15 / 1.01%
Recruitment: 4 / 0.27%
Other special 1-off: 4 / 0.27%
Offseason tasks (PT): 2 / 0.13%
Total: 1490
The biggest differences that stand out to me are:
* A much higher trivia score - I believe this is related to phasing out of trivia as part of the changes to predictions with the league expansion rather than actually doing better at answering them and can be somewhat seen in the lower point task score
* Lower wiki score - not sure if that's due to the lack of that task giving TPE or if it's not having the time to do them. But, I know that Frost's last 2 seasons the 9 points of offseason tasks roughly matched the lack of 2 wiki updates, so it's possible that these are actually in-line when taken together.
* Recruitment - 8 TPE behind Frost isn't enough to make or break a player on the field, but it's more than a third of the difference between the two.
* Fantasy - Dermot managed 5 second-place fantasy finishes. Still a little above random EV, but that's 6 points behind Frost.
Given the difference in eras (S16 player vs S21) and the changes the league has made in TPE earning options as a result of the team expansion, it's fairly remarkable that these players are as close as they are. I'd be interested conceptually in looking at something like the top-earning player from each season and seeing the changes over time, but I don't have an automatic way to make these breakdowns so I'll pass. Still, I hope that some of you (at least Frost) enjoyed this information, and congrats again to the all-time TPE max earner!
...for now
(I think there's a decent chance for @flyeaglesfly29 's S22 QB Colby Jack to challenge Frost's record - Jack's at 1405 now after the first post-offseason update which is exactly where Frost was after the analogous update last year. Frost was at 1327 going into the offseason, though, while Jack was at 1331. Clearly seems like it should be interesting to follow)
