I was in the process of researching another article (I plan on releasing it this weekend probably, so stay tuned) when I stumbled on some information that I found interesting. Being broke at the moment - I dropped $18.5 mil this week - I decided to push out this article before the media event ends. So graders, give me that sweet sweet 1.5X bonus. Please and thank you.
I’ve already looked at this season’s ISFL draft from the perspective of the contracts signed by the draftees. That was fun in all but now I would like to discuss something of a little more substance. Something that has a more visible impact on the ISFL: the s28 draftees who were immediately called up to the big leagues. It seems to me like there will be quite a few of them compared to past seasons. Actually, I have no idea what the numbers are for other seasons but I still think it's interesting nonetheless. So let’s take a look at the 10 draftees who will have an immediate impact in the ISFL and how they got there.
Round 1 Pick 1: WR Luke Quick (Bigred1580) - Baltimore Hawks
I wonder if it ever gets old seeing your player’s name first all the time. The Hawks selected Quick 1OA for good reason. While in the DSFL, he put up some solid numbers: he finished 6th in receiving yards and tied for 6th in receiving touchdowns. Quick was also a unanimous selection for the pro bowl as a WR. That alone is enough for a GM to consider pulling him up right away but I think it is the user that cemented the decision to play him immediately. Bigred is a league veteran and someone that is guaranteed to add to the team both on the field and in the locker room. Quick is entering the preseason with 325 TPE.
Round 1 Pick 2: RB Busch Goose (infinitempg) - Baltimore Hawks
Directly following Quick is Busch Goose. Like he is literally following Quick. Well, more like chasing. Take a look at Goose’s draft card if you don’t know what I mean. Anyways, he is the Hawks’ second pick in a row to be called up. His stats in the DSFL back up this move as well. He ended up in 11th place for rush yards, which is pretty good considering he was the second back in a two RB scheme. Goose also tied for 6th in rushing touchdowns and had the 4th most receiving yards among RBs. Not to mention he was nominated for RBotY and selected for the pro bowl OFLEX position. Similar to Quick, these numbers don’t tell the whole story. Infinite is another veteran and extremely well known user. He has contributed a lot to the development of the ISFL. The least you can do is think of him when you use wolfieBot. Baltimore is hoping that he will continue his contributions and be a critical member in reversing their course. Going into the preseason, Goose has 336 TPE.
Round 1 Pick 7: CB Juno Hu (j00) - San Jose Sabercats
As the first member of this group who is not a Hawk, Hu looks to make an impact in the Sabercats straight away. They hope that Hu will continue to build on the success he found in the DSFL where he racked up plenty of interceptions, finishing 4th in the league. He also landed in the 13th spot for tackles by CBs. Hu’s accomplishments were duly noted as he was nominated for the Defensive Performance of the Year award and made the pro bowl as a CB. In addition to Hu’s stats, j00 is an active user who produces media regularly. Heading into the preseason with 289 TPE, Hu will be able to add to the Sabercat defense as a solid CB3.
Round 1 Pick 8: DE Andrew Warthol (Skorch) - Yellowknife Wraiths
Next up, we have Warthol selected by the Wraiths in the first round, surprising all the experts. I think Yellowknife's high valuation of Skorch is warranted as he is a great user and earner. In the DSFL, Warthol produced enough sacks to be tied for 6th while also securing enough tackles to be 10th among DEs, propelling him to the pro bowl in the process. Off the field, I can attest that Skorch is a friendly presence in the locker room as a former teammate in Minnesota. He has also submitted media a time or two. Warthol makes his way into the preseason with 276 TPE.
Round 1 Pick 14: WR Chunt The Badger (UltimateYeehaw) - Baltimore Hawks
With their third and final pick of the first round (I call shenanigans, that’s just too many!), the Hawks chose Chunt the Badger and called her up immediately. A brief glance at all the accolades she earned in the DSFL demonstrates why. No explanation is even needed. Chunt led the league in receiving yards and receptions, while placing 2nd in receiving touchdowns. Now this is where it gets crazy: she was nominated for/won an obscene amount of awards. Her nominations include OPotY, Offensive Performance of the Year, and MVP. And then she went on to win ORotY and WRotY. Holy crap dude! Do I even have to mention that Chunt was a unanimous pick for the pro bowl or was that just a given? And here I was being happy just to see my player get a catch occasionally. Gotta step up my game. Ok, that’s enough fanboying. Moving on, UltimateYeehaw will be a great locker room addition as I have only heard positive things about her. She also produces media every once in a while. Her resume is ever growing. Chunt will enter the preseason with 307 TPE
Round 2 Pick 3: TE Bender Rodriguez (shrub02) - Orange County Otters
And now we have the best pick of the draft! One hundred percent an objective opinion. The experts agree that he really should’ve gone 1OA. So you might even consider the Otters’ selection of Bender in the second round quite the steal. Alright, alright. Enough self praising. Let’s take a look at Bender’s amazing stats in the DSFL that led to his call up. He finished 7th in receiving yards for TEs. And didn’t even break 100 total receiving yards all season, smh. Ok, so Bender’s stats are definitely not the reason he was called up to the big leagues. His switch to LB was a big factor in this decision. That was a major need for the Otters and Bender fills that hole. The user is alright too. Bender goes into the preseason with 277 TPE.
Round 2 Pick 4: OL Stumpy Jones (FootballisCool) - Sarasota Sailfish
Sarasota’s decision to draft and call up Stumpy makes him the only OL to get the nod right away, which makes sense considering how he dominated in the DSFL. Stumpy is a hungry boy, finishing the season with the most pancakes. He also only allowed an exceptionally low one sack all season. Those are stats worthy of the OLotY award he received. User FootballisCool made it known to scouts that he wanted to be in the ISFL as soon as possible and the Sailfish honored his wish. He backs up this request with his earning and media produced. He has recently been making podcasts regularly. I actually just listened to one while I was writing this piece. He’s knowledgeable about the league and provides some interesting insights. FootballisCool also spoke well of Bender in his podcast so I had to give him a plug. Making his way into the preseason with 310 TPE will allow Stumpy to have an immediate impact.
Round 2 Pick 7: TE Makoa Mahiʻai (King Jellyfish) - Baltimore Hawks
Mahi’ai has the distinction of being the only TE to be called up now that Bender has switched to LB. The Hawks were in desperate need of a TE. Mahi’ai’s performance in the DSFL gives them reason to think they made a good choice. He was 5th in receiving yards and tied for 2nd in receiving touchdowns (both for TEs). Mahi’ai can block too, securing the 5th most pancakes among TEs and not allowing a single sack all season. I don’t know much about King Jellyfish as a user but he seems pretty active. I’ve seen him post replies all across the league and he also produces some pretty cool graphics. I really like the signature of Mahi’ai in the trenches of World War 1. But I’m a sucker for history. Anywho, Mahi’ai will bring 264 TPE to the table when he enters preseason.
Round 2 Pick 9: WR Sam the Onion Man (Duilio05) - Orange County Otters
To round out the second round picks is the third WR to make this list and my fellow Otter, Sam the Onion Man. While his DSFL production will not convince you that he should be called up - his only notable stat is finishing 17th in receiving yards - the decision to immediately use the Onion Man is great nonetheless. The Otters don’t seem to care much about DSFL stats, as seen by the call up of Bender as well. Duilio is a league veteran who has been active all across the forum. His $94 million bank account is proof enough that he deserves to be here. The Onion Man will start the preseason with 327 TPE.
Round 3 Pick 8: DT David Ramczyk (Shiny) - Baltimore Hawks
Last but not least is another Baltimore pick, David Ramczyk. It feels like all I’ve been doing is talking about Hawks’ players. It makes sense as they had a lot of needs to address. The big boy Ramczyk will easily plug one of these holes. He finished last season ranked 4th in tackles made by DTs. This is another pick that was less about the stats and more about the user. Baltimore appears to prioritize creating a healthy locker room. It can be seen how Shiny fits this mold as he is active in creating media pieces. Ramczyk was a late create last season which explains him entering the preseason with 202 TPE.
That wraps up my analysis of s28 draftees who are immediate call ups. While some of them dominated the DSFL last season, I believe the overarching theme is that they are all great users. I don’t know about the rest of them, but I never imagined myself being among a group of users of this caliber. It truly was an honor to be able to include my player in this list. Now, time to put the work in to prove I belong here.
P.S. I compiled the members of this list using information gathered from gragg’s spy network, so if I missed anyone please direct your anger at him.
