ISFL Season 28 Game Breakdowns - Austin Copperheads – Defensive Tackle - Owen Isaac
Here we are at week 4 the quarter way point for the Austin Copperheads @ Orange County Otters. We come into this in great form with a 3-0 record and already having 2 road wins. Whereas the Otters come in at a 1-2 record and having just been thumped by the Arizona Outlaws. When these 2 sides met last year they bookended the season with the Otters coming out on top in both games. Can the Copperheads continue their momentum.
Pre match interview with Defensive Tackle Owen Isaac
Interviewer: Your side come into this off a 3 match winning run and top the division, how are you feeling after lasts weeks home win, you haven’t won the Otters since ISFL season 24, what makes you think you can win here today.
Owen Isaac: Firstly it was so great to get that win in front of the home crowd last week, they really turned up for us and helped us to victory. We just want to keep up this momentum if we can, we go into every game right now know we CAN get a win, football is never easy we are going to lose a game, lets hope not today, but we will keep going no matter the result. Obviously last win here I was still back in college, so hopefully I can try to have an impact on the game and we can get a great win here.
Interviewer: Thanks for answering the questions today
Week 4 - @ Orange County Otters
To start the game receive the kickoff. Daytona puts together a fantastic opening drive of the game as we march down the field for a fantastic 7 minute drive, before Jim the Vampire punches through for a TD. Exactly the start you want in a tough away matchup. We hold their next drive for a Punt to retain the lead. A huge punt from PhastBawls pins us down at our 1 yard line, we manage to work another 1st down before, Daytona gets Sacked ….AGAIN….and he fumbles it into the endzone before recovering resulting in a Safety. After the great opening drive not how we wanted the next to go.
Austin County start the second quarter around the half way line, we manag3e to hold them to a field goal thanks to some good tackling and pass defence. Our next drive is not helped by Zoe Watts fumbling the ball, luckily recovered by our offensive lineman but we are forced to punt it back to them. This time they make us pay by driving down for a touchdown and giving themselves a 12-7 lead. Penalties hit us on the next drive with 2 false starts from the offensive line before Daytona is sacked again, Jackie is a glutton for punishment at this point having racked up 8 sacks already this season, even if this is on track to be less than last year.
The second half starts with us just a score behind, Orange County start the half with a big 42 yard completion, but we hold them out of the endzone and manage to make them settle for a field goal. Another penalty on our offence stagnates the drive forcing a another punt. Tyler Montain comes up with a big QB sack on the next set and forces the ball out but the QB recovers it, but it does mean we get the ball back again. We punt the ball back to the Otters meaning on the 5 drives since the opening touchdown we have gone, Safety, Punt, Punt, Punt, Punt. We need to get something going and soon. The good thing is the Otters are not doing much better themselves and its still an 8 point game. A good sack from Claxton gives us the ball back. BOOOM! The partnership strikes, Daytona manages to find Videl-San for a huge 88 yard touchdown. These two just have a knack of being able to come up with big plays this year. We go for 2 but Watts is stuffed at the line meaning we go into the 4th quarter 2 points down, 15-13.
A big 4th quarter coming up in a tightly fought game, neither offence is really finding too much rhythm out there. Orange County will have the ball and they start a quick drive down the field, before Ramza finds a touchdown pass to give them the momentum and a 2 score lead, 22-13. Again we end up punting the ball back. Orange County look to play the clock with 9 minutes left, if they get a score off this drive then we are likely done, we need a turnover. Ramza goes for a screen pass play and the ball hangs up there, snatched Dax Kennedy steals one and has an uninterrupted run in for a pick 6. The second of the season for us, man Kennedy is on fire at the moment. Kick is good and we are all tight again, 22-20, now we just need a big stop and a turnover and we can win this, we did it before, we have done well in these situations this season. 7 minutes to go and boom, 1st play from the Otters is a big sack from Brach Thomaslacher, the ball is free…… but the QB recovers it. Great start though. Ramza though manages 2 absolute clutch throws to get a first down. They slow the game down and start running the clock, we approach the 2 minute mark, big hit on the running back from Fitinyomouf, pops the ball out and I just clutch it out of the air and keep hold of the ball like my life depended on it. We got the turnover we needed, 2 minute to go , around the half way line a field goal will win it. 2nd and 10 big throw from Daytona, Jeeta is looking to get open, but a great break up of the play from Biggums. 3rd down and 10, only 1 timeout remaining,1 minute 40 on the clock. Daytona gets pushed out of the pocket to the left, Daytona waits through the reads, and launches the ball for Jeeta in a one on one..What a catch, a huge 30 yard play… But its called back for an illegal use of hands from a Guard. The 4th down results in another Daytona Sack as he had to wait an age for an opening. The game was there. Man that sucks, soft call too. Dejected, 1st loss of the season, Damn!
Post match interviews
Interviewer: So the copperheads taste defeat for the first time this season, in what was another great matchup. So Owen You must have thought you guys had pulled off another dramatic win at the end there, how are you feeling?
Owen Isaac: Ah man, it sucks damn it. After the fumble recovery, we really thought we had this, we know how good the likes of Daytona and Watts have been in these clutch moments. Veeta had had a quiet game really but we know what their capable of. And when the refs called it back man, gutting. But look we are 3-1 and we have played 3 tough tough road games, don’t get me wrong id love to be 4-0 but there is a long way to go. We just have to get back at it and get the win next game.
Interviewer: Next up Dex Kennedy, So we talk again, after your 2nd defensive player of the game in a row. You seem to be in great form at the moment. Another 9 tackles this week taking you up to 22 for the season, but more importantly the one thing missing from last week an Interception came through to you this week, and then to make it a pick 6, to put your team in with a shot at the end there to get that 4th win. Do you think you can keep this form going?
Dex Kennedy: Whatever gets my team a win is good by me. We came up just short but we had them on their heels until the last whistle. I am just playing the game the only way I know how. A win’s all that matters to me.
Interviewer: So a quick word from Vidal-San to come now, You seem to be having a knack for getting the big big plays this season, your 3 touchdowns have know come from 53, 84 and 88 yards, you’ve certainly got some speed behind you. You are currently top receiver for yards, having passed the 500 yard mark after just 4 games, this puts you on track to comfortably pass last season. How are you feeling about your game right now and the link with Jackie at Quarterback? Do you think you could pass the elusive 2000 yards mark this season, is it even realistic?
Vidal-San: This is probably the best start for the team and myself since I joined Austin back in S23. I never expected to have such high stats already, I mean having 100+ yards consistently is such a hard feat to pull off. Daytona in my opinion is hit or miss, did he have offseason surgery that gave him Zoe Watts’ hands? He’s been having fumble issues as of late, which is a big example why we probably should’ve won that game. I definitely think it is possible to hit 2000 yards receiving, if a WR won an MVP back in the day, it’s possible to hit 2000 yards receiving.
Interviewer: Ok Coach first time we have had to chat this year coming off of a loss, what went wrong for the side today and do you think you can get back on track at home to the 3-1 New York Silverbacks?
Coach: Yeah this was a close game all the way through and it’s a shame we didn't come out on top. Our mistakes really cost us this game. We got sloppy you know! Safeties are unacceptable, penalties in the 4th quarter are unacceptable. But we know the mistakes we made and our team is smart. We will learn from these mistakes and next week the silverbacks won't get so lucky. We'll tighten things up and make sure that we play better football.
Interviewer: Well that’s Game week 4 down now, Austin Copperheads finally lose away to the Orange County Otters, how will they respond to this setback next week at home to the New York Silverbacks. Same time next week.
