Winner of this matchup will be the division leader going into week 6.
Pre match interview with Defensive Tackle Owen Isaac
Interviewer: Your side come into this off the back of tasting your first defeat of the season. How have the side responded in training this week and what should we expect in your home game this week against New York?
Owen Isaac: We were all a little gutted after last week really as the game was there for the taking and we came up a little short. But look the response from the side this week has been fantastic, there has been an extra bit of grit shown by all, as we wont to get straight back on the winning train here and a home game is the perfect way to respond. We know that this crowd is one of the best around and we will use it entirely this week and really show you what we can do.
Interviewer: Thanks for answering the questions today
Week 5 – New York Silverbacks
So we would start the game receiving the kickoff. And for the 2nd time in 3 matches Daytona is picked off on the 2nd play of the game, Jackie did the exact same thing against the New Orleans Secondline in week 3. Thankfully the defence is able to hold them to a field goal. A couple of punts follow Before Daytona gets the passing game into gear and drives down the field for a really nice Touchdown to Videl-San. Only a 12 yard touchdown this week after the 3 previous long touchdowns. The New York QB Howitzer also manages to get the side rolling after the sluggish start, as he drives them down for a TD of their own. We get the ball back, and Zoe Watts manages to get a really good head of steam going and manages to get some really key yardage before Jim the Vampire rocks up for a great 1 yard TD, punching it through a resolute defensive line. A couple of New York penalties and a great sack from Dex Kennedy, I mean this guy is everywhere the last few weeks, we force New York into a punt. Daytona takes a sack next creating an exchange of punts between the sides. With a minute of the half remaining New York have the ball. I had been having a great battle with the Guard throughout the half, but finally managed to get the better of him for a play, and it opened up for me to sack Howitzer, for my first Sack in the ISFL. Man that feels good to smack a QB in the mouth again, it has been a while since my DSFL exploits. That takes it to the half at 14-10 to the Copperheads.
The second half starts and we force a punt first up from the Silverbacks, before we have to punt back after another Sack on Daytona. We punt from deep giving New York great field position for their drive. And they drive it down to our 18 yard line, before LeSean Crooks manages to leap up and steal the ball off Wilkinson and give us the ball back and maintain the lead. Daytona makes some really nice completions from this before finding Howlett for a great 51 yard TD. Great response from the side here, exactly what you want after getting the interception, make those takeaways count. A couple of punts follow again before we start the 5th quarter with us up at 21-10.
The 4th quarter continues as a lot of the game has gone with punts back and forth between the 2 sides. Before a huge sack from Troen Egghands forces New York into a 3rd and long play. A short pass is magnificently cut out by Bowie for another interception, this time deep in New York territory. A couple of passes to start from Daytona before a great rush attempt pulled just short from Jim the Vampire, but he gets the ball straight back to punch in over the line on the next play for a second TD of the game. With the game at 28-10 we knew New York would be forced into risks on the next drive, and we manage to get them into a 4th and inches opportunity thanks to a great tackle from Bowie to hold’em short. They go for the rushing play but the rookie Fitinyomouf manages to get a great stop bang on the scrimmage line and prevent them converting, giving us another start in the New York half. With us now in control of the clock, Watts makes some great breaks to keep 1st downs rolling and the clock moving, before Jim the Vampire rocks up for a TD from a heady 3 yards this time, longest of the game. A couple of sacks of the New York QB Howitzer to end the game from Brach Thomaslacher and Slinky Claxton, the second of which causes a fumble. We come away with a great win and fantastic response to last week’s defeat.
Post match interviews
Interviewer: Well that was a great response to last weeks loss, before the game you spoke of the attitude of the players leading into this game and the impact from the fans. It must be great when it all comes together like that? Also congratulations on your first sack in the ISFL must feel great to get that monkey off your back?
Owen Isaac: I mean look I said it before but this crowd is fantastic, we know everytime we step out there is that extra 10% due to their support. We came into this game pumped and I think it shows in the manner in which we won, we shut out the Silverbacks for the 3 quarters of that game, they got their TD we corrected a couple of things and they got no change out of us all game after that. Yeah and getting that sack was great, I got so used to that feeling in the DSFL and having quite had that buzz since moving up a level and moving inside on the line. Hopefully it won’t be the last, and I am certainly not going to settle until I can consistently give this team the output it deserves. And with some of the great leaders we have along our front 7, I know that I am in the right place to keep developing.
Interviewer: Next up is Jim the Vampire, Congratulations on the 3 touchdowns today, today alone you equalled last seasons tally and now sit on 4 TDs for the season, how are you feeling about your game, and how much do you owe to your teammates getting you into these short down situations where you are so effective?
Jim the Vampire: I feel great! LIke you said, all my touchdowns came from runs near the goal line so I have to thank everyone else in the offense for getting us there (except Daytona of course). I'm just glad I was able to do my job and cap off those drives. To get as many TDs in 1 game as I had all last season is a great redemption. I'm having a lot of fun this year.
Interviewer: Ok Coach, so last week you promised us that the team would not make the mistakes of last week again, and you have certainly lived up to that with a convincing victory over the New York Silverbacks today. Another home game is up next when you come up against the Honolulu Hahalua who sit at 3-2, a win will start to separate yourselves from the pack in the division, what will be key to your side coming out on top?
Coach: The Hahalua are out to prove last season was not a fluke. They are the real deal and we have to prepare for that. Hopefully we can take advantage of the extra travel times involved for when they travel away. The key will be stopping Chika bomb-it. They're passing game is lethal but we now have the secondary and the pass rush to deal with that. Hopefully we can come up with some big plays on both sides of the ball. This should be a fun game for the fans.
Interviewer: Well that’s Game week 5 down now, Austin Copperheads respond convincingly against the New York Silverbacks, to take the division lead, they will look to separate from the pack with a home game against the Honolulu Hahalua up next. Same time next week.
