Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of dude_man’s season 28 DSFL Recap/Highlights. This week we're going to cover the Tijuana Luchadores vs the Dallas Birddogs. Last season, the Tijuana Luchadores lost all 3 games (1 including the playoffs) to Dallas, including a controversial loss that ended with the Birddogs clinching the playoff win with a phantom call. The Luchadores will look to extend their wining streak to 3 while the Birddogs are trying to avoid a 1-2 start to the season. But first, let's check out a pregame interview with the defensive coordinator, Maverick Bowie.
Pre-Game Interview
Mike: Hey guys, Mike Holder here with defensive coordinator Maverick Bowie for the Luchadores. Coach, how do you feel about your defense going into this game?
Maverick: Well I'm not going to lie to you Mike, this team has a really good offense, and looks to be just as good as it was last year if not better. But our guys are even better than they were last year, and I'm proud of how they've played so far and they're only going to get better from here.
Mike: Yeah you guys are statistically at the top right now, so definitely some legitimate words there. So we found out Sir Peter Jackson's new nickname, how did that come about?
Maverick: It seems like all of these young guys always try to find some cool nickname for themselves. I think [Marcus] Jones called him that or something. It gives Jackson some swagger, and I'm not going to take that away from him (laughs).
Mike: Totally understandable. Thanks for meeting with us coach!
Recap/Highlights
With the first play from scrimmage, the Birddogs would score a TD off of a 75-yard pass from QB Joliet Christ Jr. to WR Bayley Cowabunga. 0-7. The Luchadores would then score with 7:11 to go in the 1st with a 42-yard FG from Leroy. Unfortunately, that would be the very last points they would score in this game. 3-7. Toward the end of the 1st quarter, K Dallas Dole would make a 37-yard FG. 3-10. In the second quarter, RB Erik Gaare would punch it in the end zone for the Birddogs with a 5-yard run TD run. 3-17.
In the 3rd quarter, Christ Jr. would toss the ball to WR AJ Tirrel for a 6-yard TD pass. 3-24. Near the end of the same quarter, RB Sirdsvaldis Miglasķēms rushed for a 1-yard TD run. 3-31. In the 4th quarter, the Birddogs would score one last time from the 1-yard line with a pass from Christ Jr. to WR Ivan Toastovich. 3-38 would be the final score.
Player of the Game: Sir Peter Jackson - 14 tackles, 2 TFL
Post-Game Interview
Our interviewer was able to get ahold of Tijuana Luchadores Head Coach Forrest Gump, to get some comments after the game.
Mike: Tough loss coach, how are you guys going to bounce back from this?
Gump: Honestly we didn't play as bad as what the scoreboard says. We're going to review the film and get back out there for the Grey Ducks next week.
Mike: Offense wasn't really clicking all game coach, what do you plan on doing with that moving forward?
Gump: I'm not gonna say much, but we're going to make some changes, just keep an eye out on that.
Mike: Thanks for meeting with me coach. Hope you guys bounce back from it!
