Hey all you wonderful people, welcome to my S29 Mock Draft!
I'm currently completing the Mock Draft PT and figured why not type up justifications for each of my selections to get some bonus cash money and to hopefully help some of you with the PT.
The best part about mock drafts is seeing how horribly wrong you are come draft day, so buckle up and lets have some fun.
Without further ado, here are the selections:
1. Baltimore Hawks : Anyone who has been following the league over the past few seasons knows the Hawks have been awful...like record setting awful. Lucky for Hawks fans there is a glowing light at the end of the tunnel as they have been quietly building up an abundance of high end young talent with their top draft picks over the past couple of seasons and that trend will continue this year with not one, not two, not three but FOUR first round picks. The interesting thing about this years draft is that unlike most seasons there is no consensus number one pick, so which route will the Hawks go in this slot? It's tough to overlook proven re-creates like Dante King and Jay Cue Jr in this slot who I initially thought would be a lock for #1 and #2 in this draft. Taking a look at the Hawks roster though, they already have two young Running Backs on the roster in Busch Goose (honk, honk) and Preston Parker that they selected in the past two drafts which leads me to believe they may look at filling some other holes in their roster. The Hawks went offence heavy in last years draft which leads me to believe they may look to bolster the defence in this years draft. Based on all of that I think the Hawks go ahead and select the top TPE earner in the class to this point and get themselves a young stud Cornerback by the name of Lip Gallagher. User @fever95 is new to the league but seems to have proven he is committed to being a big time TPE earner and fills a much needed hole in the defensive backfield to for the Hawks with vet Ben Stackinpaper getting hit with regression.
Pick: Lip Gallagher - Cornerback
2. New Orleans Secondline : At this point in the draft Tight End Chevvy Bronko is the top prospect remaining on the board TPE wise but with the recent announcement that AdamS will be switching from Wideout to Tight End it all but eliminates him from contention at this spot. On the flip side of that with that same announcement that AdamS is no longer a Wide Receiver that leaves the team very thin at the position featuring Brock Bodenhamer and Ed Barker hitting regression at this point in their careers. I would like to think that makes this a perfect spot for WR Quinton Crash to slide into but I have to consider other options at this spot before letting my bias get the best of me. In my mind Dante King and Jay Cue Jr are still the top two prospects in this draft given their track records in the league and I think New Orleans has to think long and hard about those two users at this spot. The Secondline's top Running Back Botty aka C9Van recently announced his retirement and based on that I think they go ahead and select Dante King @shadyshoelace with the second overall selection. Shady is a proven high end user in this league and immediately helps the team on the field and in the locker room.
Pick: Dante King - Running Back
3. Baltimore Hawks: Wait a second...didn't Baltimore just make their pick!? Oh ya I almost forgot they own the whole first round in this years draft. This is where things start to get really tough for me and I think this pick is a total wild card. I can see the Hawks going several directions with this pick. Chevvy Bronko is still on the board here and although he's new to the league he has proven he can be a top end earner. Unfortunately for Bronko I think his wait in the draft room continues considering the Hawks picked up Makoa Mahi'ai in last seasons draft and he has continued to be a quality earner for the team. I have a hard time believing that the team doesn't think long and hard about picking up Jay Cue Jr in this spot but like I said earlier they already have a couple of young stud Running Backs on the team which makes me think they continue to focus on the defensive side of the ball. Based on that logic I think the Hawks go ahead and pick up Tijuana's star Linebacker Marcus Jones @Drizzy with this selection. Drizzy's been around the league for a long time and I think the Hawks will be ecstatic to add a proven winner to their squad to help shore up the defence.
Pick: Marcus Jones - Linebacker
4. Philadelphia Liberty: The last couple selections required fairly lengthy write-ups but I don't think it takes long for Philly to make their selection with the number four selection. I think the team is incredibly excited to see Jay Cue Jr still on the board in this spot and I don't think they waste any time adding him to their team. @Opera_Phantom is a god tier user in the ISFL and I believe he'll be an absolutely fantastic addition to the Liberty team on and off the field for years to come.
Pick: Jay Cue Jr - Running Back
5. Chicago Butchers: Looking at the Butchers roster they are honestly fairly well rounded talent wise. I think there's a couple of players the Butchers will consider here and it's always difficult to shy away from proven user re-creates with these top picks but I think at the end of the day this pick is a match made in heaven. The teams tight end Tree Gelbman is well into regression at this point in his career and the top remaining prospect on the board just happens to be a tight end. @musha6570 aka Chevvy Bronko (Best name in the class) is new to the league but much like Lip Gallagher he has proven to be a consistent high end TPE earner and I think he has the ability to slide right into the roster and help this offence out. Congrats Chevvy your draft night wait is officially over with the number five selection!
Pick: Chevvy Bronko - Tight End
6. Orange County Otters : To be honest, it's weird as hell for me to see the Otters this high in the draft. Since I joined the league back in S17 this team has been an absolute juggernaut and is personally responsible for me missing out on several Ultimus rings. At this point in the draft I think there's three options the Otters are seriously considering and that's Quinton Crash on offence or Tre'mendus Johnson and Sam Squanch on defence - mainly because they are the top three non GM talents left on the board at this point TPE wise. Both Squanch and Johnson are new to the league but much like Bronko and Gallagher ahead of them have proven they are hard working members. The Otters current linebacking core is lead by veterans Deshaun Jones and Joseph Joestar and they also added young stud Bender Rodriquez in last years draft. Jones is well into regression while Joestar is just coming into his prime. Meanwhile at receiver the team is lead by Garfield Despacito Jr who is well into regression but the team features two young studs in Onion Man and Holloway. My gut is telling me the team goes defence with this selection and I think it totally depends on who the scouts clicked with more but for Mock Draft purposes I'm going to ride with the guy with more TPE currently and lock Tre'Mendus Johnson @allbetsonjames into this slot.
Pick: Tre'Mendus Johnson - Linebacker
7. Colorado Yeti: Almost everything I just said about the Otters also seems to apply for the Yeti. I think with the way the draft board is shaping up the Yeti are happy to select yours truly, Quinton Crash with the number seven overall pick. Fun fact: my previous player Mervin Leonard was also taken with the number seven selection in the S17 draft so it seems very fitting for Crash to go in this slot. Looking at the current Yeti roster they only have two Wide outs on the roster with one of them, William Lim, hitting a big old regression wall this season.
Pick: Quinton Crash - Wide Receiver
8. Honolulu Hahalua : By this point in the draft there's about six players within seven total TPE of each other which means we're back to a wide open field as to who Honolulu may take here. Two of those players are Linebackers, three are Tight Ends and one is a Quarterback. This one is a total crapshoot to me. The team has a S24 Tight End on the roster in Ragnar Krashwagen and three Linebackers already on the roster all of which still have some good life left in them. The team's QB Chika Fujiwara is well into regression but I'll be honest and tell you I have no idea if they have a QB in waiting in the DSFL. I'm going to go ahead and pretend that they don't and with the eighth selection in the draft the Hahalua will select QB Kazmir Oles Jr. Oles is another guy who has been around the league a long time and he'll be able to stick in the DSFL for another couple of seasons to fully develop before getting the call up.
Pick: Kazmir Oles Jr. - Quarterback
9. San Jose Sabercats: What's a Sabercat? I don't know. What I do know is that with San Jose LEGEND Tyron Brackenridge @Lowlycrib retiring the team will be looking to add additional Linebacker talent to pair up with the youngster Duke Cheeks. I think with this pick the team goes ahead and selects @EricNCSU Sam Squanch (Second best name in the class) who I highlighted several times above in my Mock Draft. The dude is new to the league but has already added two Ultiminis to his trophy case leading me to believe he is a born winner.
Pick: Sam Squanch - Linebacker
10. Baltimore Hawks: Guess who's back, back again...the Hawks...it's the Hawks. With only a handful of picks left in the first round of the draft things are getting really tough to pick (as if it wasn't already throughout this draft). I highlighted in an earlier writeup about Baltimore that they already have a young Tight End on the roster that they picked up in last years draft. Does that mean they don't pick up another one in this spot? Not necessarily but I don't think it's their first choice even though the top three prospects TPE wise are all Tight Ends at this point. The team went defence with their first two picks in this mock draft and I think they could seriously consider going that route again here. In my mind this really comes down to how much the scouts/GMs enjoyed their scouting conversations with given prospects but I think this pick is between Linebacker David Frank and Defensive End Lucid Dreams. Frank has a slight TPE lead but the team already went Linebacker with the third overall pick and have several on the roster already. Defensive linemen can be tough to come by in this league and I think as long as the teams conversation with Lucid Dreams went well and he seems committed to being a consistent earner in the league they make @Luciddreams702 their selection here.
Pick: Lucid Dreams - Defensive End
11. Berlin Fire Salamanders: Earlier I questioned what a Sabercat was, this is where I tell you I also have no idea what a Fire Salamander is either but damn does it sound bad ass. Who wins in a fight between a Fire Salamander and a Sabercat? I'm not sure but I'd love to find out. What I do know is that the teams Tight End Clark Boyd is getting up there in years and the team has a couple of Linebackers on the roster already. Based on that I think they go ahead and select whichever Tight End they got the best vibes from during scouting talks in this slot. Just based on total TPE at this point I'm going to go ahead and slot @KezKincaid Gronku Muerto as the number 11 pick. Welcome to the league rook.
Pick: Gronku Muerto - Tight End
12. Arizona Outlaws: I'm not really sure what the Outlaws do here. The top available talent left is once again Tight End and Linebacker. The team has a young Tight End already in Tom Teaboat but in this league I don't think you can ever have enough offensive firepower and because of that I'm going to go ahead and say another Tight End comes off the board here by the name of @BOOM™ Buffalo Hunter. Boom has been around the league a long time and I think the Outlaws are happy to add this Possession Tight End to their team with this pick.
Pick: Buffalo Hunter - Tight End
13. Baltimore Hawks: Barring a trade this is the last time you'll have to see Baltimore select in the first round of this draft. I have the team going defence with their previous three picks in this draft but I think this is a situation where the team goes best available and continues the trend of Tight Ends with this pick by grabbing Joey Marston aka @Capt_Blitzkrieg here. Very similar to what I said about the Outlaws, although they already have a young tight end a team can never have too much firepower.
Pick: Joey Marston - Tight End
14. Yellowknife Wraiths: And with the final pick of the first round your S28 ISFL Ultimus Champion Wraiths select.... Linebacker David Frank @IceBear32. This pick works on a number of levels for me. First and foremost Frank is the best player still available at this point. Second, The Wraiths currently only have a couple of linebackers on the roster with their defensive leader, Douglas Quaid, being the oldest member of the team so we'll surely see regression catch up with him sooner rather than later.
Pick: David Frank - Linebacker
Cheers for taking a look at my mock draft. I'm sure I butchered most of the picks but hopefully this helps come of you with Mock Draft PT!
Update: After some further review and research I have come to realize that Bush Goose is in fact leaving the Hawks which totally messes up the top end of my mock (shocker!) In the event some poor soul decides to use this mock draft to help them with the Mock Draft PT I now believe the top four picks shape up more like this:
1. Baltimore Hawks: Dante King
2. Second Line: Jay Cue Jr
3. Baltimore Hawks: Lip Gallagher
4. Liberty: Marcus Jones
