Well it's already time for another one of these.
This time it's easy since we didn't make the playoffs.
Also since I didn't link it last time, I always recommend looking at the spreadsheet for the whole list (and it's prettier!). Purple are team hall of famers, bold are things that are done this season or active players.
Here is the link to the spreadsheet
Let's start with the game records:
Rushing average: M. Rotchburns enters the list at 6th on the list with a 7.2 yards per rush game he had this season.
Receiving catches: Ed Barker had a great game and had 12 catches which ties the record that he himself had last season as well as Tomatonose in season 6.
Receiving yards: Ed Barker gets another record and not just that but he absolutely CRUSHES it. Barker had 195 yards in a game this season, breaking the record by 30 yards, insane! He also enters the list again at 8th with a 148 yard game. He now has 4 of the top 10 games with receiving yards. More on this later.
Receiving touchdowns: Ed Barker also ties a record here with a 3 touchdown game, done before by A. LeClair and Dustin Evans (not since S8). Great achievement here as well.
Pancakes: Adam Mellott is an absolute beast and has crushed so much of this list already. With two 12 pancake games he comes in 2nd and 3rd, followed closely by an 11 pancake game. He also adds two 10 pancake games at the end of the list. He now holds 8 of the 10 best games with pancakes in NOLA history.
Punts inside 20: P. QB had some good punts inside 20 games, he adds two at the end of the list in 9th and 10th with 4 each.
Season records:
Passing yards: Despite the disappointing season record wise, our Quarterback Ben Slothlisberger still had an absolutely fantastic season. He comes in on this list with 4645 yards, good for 4th all time and his 2nd best season of his career.
Passing touchdowns: With 29 touchdowns, Slothlisberger is in 6th place on this list, similar to the yards it is his 2nd best season of his career.
Passing percentage: Another great effective season there too and he is in 3rd place there with 61.0% of passes completed. Funny enough, Logan Noble is still in 2nd place here from back in S5. A rare instance of a non top 3 QB making a list.
Passing rating: Also here a really good season, 6th best on the list with a 91.07 rating and his second best season to date yet.
Receiving catches: What a season for our receivers all around. Ed Barker breaks yet another record (and one he himself set last season) with 114 catches. Adam Spencer has the best non-Ed Barker season with 103 catches and becomes the third receiver with 100 catches in NOLA history. Tight End Austin McCormick also makes the list with 88 catches in 7th place, his best season to date.
Receiving yards: Well he came close but last year was a tiny bit better. Ed Barker had 1711 yards and comes in 2nd place behind his S27 yards, only about 40 yards behind the record.
Receiving touchdowns: And another record broken by Ed Barker. With 14 touchdowns, he breaks his record from last season where he had 13. Great job.
Forced fumbles: V. Jones Jr. had 4 forced fumbles this year which ties the record and he becomes the 6th guy in NOLA history with 4 forced fumbles.
Extra points made: P. QB had 39 extra points and is in 9th here.
Extra points percentage: P. QB had a perfect season, the 7th perfect season with extra points.
Pancakes: Adam Mellott breaks his own record from last season with 122 pancakes. Fantastic work from him!
And now the main event, the career records!
Ben Slothlisberger is still in third place with yards and touchdowns, however he is in range to get into second place next season. He needs about 3500 yards and 17 touchdowns to tie Stan Francisco in these statistics.
Passing percentage: Slothlisberger goes up a rank and is now 2nd here.
He also continues to lead in Passing Rating, even ahead of Borkus Maximus III. I think after next season it will be undoubtedly that Slothlisberger is the 2nd best Quarterback in NOLA history ahead of Stan Francisco. Great career by sloth!
Rushing yards: Rotchburns gains a spot and goes by legendary quarterback Borkus Maximus III. He now has 2166 yards, only a few yards behind A. Danielsson. He is in 7th place now. In 9th place we now have B. McBotterson, with 931 yards who enters the list new.
Rushing touchdowns: Rotchburns gains a spot here as well and is also in 7th place now with 21 touchdowns. McBotterson also enters this list with 10 touchdowns.
Receiving catches: Austin McCormick has the lead here still and builds on it, now with 694 catches, an insane career from him! Ed Barker already is in third place, gaining one spot past Paul DiMirio. His 549 catches are only about 50 behind Hall of Famer Vladimir Fyodorovich, which he should easily get next season to get into 2nd place.
Receiving yards: Barker has 9015 yards and is now only about a 1000 yards away from Fyodo for the record (and obviously also the 10,000 yard milestone). Austin McCormick gains a spot and is now in third place, going past Evans. B. Bodenhammer enters the list in 10th place and has more room to grow here.
Receiving average: Barker actually lost two spots here, but is still in 4th place. B. Bodenhammer stays in 7th place. A. Spencer enters the list in 9th place.
Receiving touchdowns: And another Barker record! Barker is at the top of the list now with 57 touchdowns, past Fyodo who had 53 touchdowns. McCormick is in third place with 43 still. Bodenhammer enters this list as well, with 26 touchdowns in 10th place.
Tackles: This is a beautiful list to look at. You have 8 team hall of famers in purple and two current players who will inevitably also make the team hall of fame. It could be the first list where all ten entries are purple! For now though, Blaylock is in 4th place with 702, in reach to get 2nd place by next season if he has another season. He gained one spot this season. Andrew Witten enters the list in 8th place with 564, also easily still room to grow higher.
Tackles for loss: Medicinal Toblerone had an abysmal year and stays in 4th place. Ranger enters the list in 9th place with 27. Great to see my DE companion here!
Forced fumbles: Blaylock is still in 4th with 11. Witten now in 5th place with 8, gaining two spots. B. Light enters the list with 7 and is now in 8th place.
Fumbles recovered: Blaylock stays in third with 8. Simwell enters the list with 4 in 8th place.
Sacks: Blaylock stays in 1st place with 52. No one else active is on this list for now.
Interceptions: Blaylock stays in 5th place with 21, Witten stays in 6th place with 20.
Passes defended: Witten gains a spot with 109, now third place all time.
Defensive touchdowns: Andrew Witten is now in 4th place, gaining six spots, he has 3 touchdowns in his career.
Extra points made: QB gains a spot and is now 6th.
Extra points percentage: QB is now 4th and gained 3 spots this year.
Field goals made: QB is now 5th and gained two spots this year.
Punts made: QB is new in 7th place.
Punt yards: QB is new here as well in 7th place.
Punts inside 20: QB gains 5 spots and is now 2nd place already with 64.
Kick Return average: Blaylock stays in 2nd place, Barker is new on the list in 5th place.
Punt returns: Witten gains a spot and is now 7th place.
Punt return yards: Witten gains a spot and is now 6th place here.
Punt return average: Witten is new on the list in 4th place.
Pancakes: Adam Mellott gains two spots and is already in third place. Two more seasons and he will have the top spot here.
After this article is now done, I want to talk a little about the sort of theory behind it a bit or some of my thoughts on these lists.
We just had a really big change with the sim, by switching to the new game. one of the big changes in this has certainly lead to certain categories being much easier (and some much harder) to break records in. It seems Receiving yards is currently easier to get for example. On the other hand tackles for loss seems to be much lower in this one than the old one. Punts inside 20 is also really high now. Pancakes seems a bit higher. I am sure there are many other changes that I haven't noticed either!
Does that break this list or make things slightly weird? Personally, I don't think so. This change happened and many other changes in the past also affected the stats. We have changed games per season a bunch for example. We just have to roll with the changes and I think it's still cool to compare players. These stats have to be looked at with history in mind. It doesn't necessarily that these players are better than previous ones, but it's still cool to see the changes.
I love looking at these things and I love whenever anyone looks at it and is excited as well.
Looking at these changes these year, I think what I noticed most is how many current players are real legends and will enter the team hall of fame down the line. Looking at career stats, I think there are some notable obvious choices for the future: B. Slothlisberger at Quarterback is an easy choice. Both tight end A. McCormick and E. Barker are obvious choices. As much of a legend Fyodo was for NOLA, I think it is also starting to be time that we start to discuss whether Ed Barker is slowly turning into the best receiver in NOLA history. Right now I think it is still very equal for the first two but if Barker has another season or more of this quality, he will demolish some of the records Fyodo set and really set himself as the prime receiver in NOLA history. Given that Fyodo is a hall of famer, not just for NOLA but in the league, I think Ed Barker is definitely also on his path towards the hall of fame with ease.
Blaylock and Witten are both obvious choices for the team hall of fame already as well. They are all over the defensive statistics. And finally, Adam Mellott is a beast and should also make the team hall of fame with ease.
And I think that is it from me for this article. Thanks for reading!
