The DSFL is a fun and exciting place that always has the craziest drafts since most of the time, TPE is almost a non-factor. Does a DSFL team just really like a dude? They usually get that guy at where they value that connection. Plus trades can come at any point for those recreates which always adds another level of chaos that I thoroughly enjoy when it comes the DSFL drafting. So how do you predict this stuff? Is it even possible to? As famous Ultimini GM, slate, as pointed out in an extensive media post, there are definitely keys to getting all of the possible information that you could ever want when it comes to mock drafting the DSFL. However, I believe in chaos and will try to predict the first round of the S30 DSFL draft since I am back in the DSFL myself. Without further ado, here we go.
1. Norfolk Seawolves
Norfolk is one of the teams that has a few needs that really opens up how this first pick could go. Based on some rumors, they could go for defensive end here which would fill a need. However, any defensive position could be taken here as well as their biggest need in wide receiver. They currently have zero wide receivers on their roster (even before call ups) which lines up perfectly with this draft class having the usual multitude of receiving talent in the class. In the end, almost nothing can go wrong with this pick for Norfolk’s decision if they avoid quarterback or tight end, for now. With that, I think the Seawolves take a chance on the position with less available options and take a surprise pick…
Norfolk selects Jason Garciaparra, DE
2. Dallas Birddogs
Dallas sits in a very easy spot when it comes to who to draft and when to draft. They just had Joliet Christ Jr called up and they have a decent picking of quarterbacks to take in this draft class that are recreates. They teased a possible option with one in the trade deadline pickups to see how they fit within the team. Dallas could go somewhere else, but I think it is pretty simple and most people are expecting this pick ever since Chika Fujiwara retired and got Joliet into the big leagues. Might as well go ahead and slot this one in.
Dallas selects Ricky Stanzi, QB
3. Kansas City Coyotes
So Kansas City has probably either already laughed their asses off with this mock draft or is remembering the pain of what happened on draft night. In case you do not know, Starboy (myself) was the former Kansas City GM from S20-S22 and also a major part of the war room for a long time. Which is why they would be calling Norfolk hard for a trade or trying to convince them to worry about wide receivers instead. However, Kansas City sits here at third without having Garciaparra to quickly grab and dig around to find somebody that fills the new role of the now gone Eleven Kendrick-Watts and Quinton Crash, Kansas City has to grab another wide receiver that they can rely on.
Kansas City selects Vincent Sharpei Jr, WR
4. Minnesota Grey Ducks
Minnesota has a bit of a good position compared to other teams and could probably trade this pick away for more picks. Given they only lost a couple callups in a few non-key positions, they really do not have much to grab here. They do have a slight need for some better earning wide receivers(?) since they have one player from S27 that sits with less TPE than their S29 player. I could see that being something on the minds of the Grey Ducks GMs and that they might not even worry about this at all next season. I think it’s a safe bet though.
Minnesota selects Squidward Tentacles, WR
5. Bondi Beach Buccaneers
Bondi Beach finds itself needing plenty of positions from call ups and this draft has enough players to at least keep Bondi Beach competitive if they play their cards right. However, that requires them playing things safe and making the best moves possible. They might have the draft to watch with all of their call ups and thankfully they don’t lose their secondary like other teams or have to fill a need there quickly. To keep themselves from feeling the effects of a weak bot offense, they could grab a still good wide receiver here even though that would be WR3 off the board. However, they also have a few defensive needs along the front seven that could make the difference between being a force to be reckoned with or having teams set offensive records on them. I think that Bondi might risk it though to replace their newly lost tight end to give their quarterback some help this season.
Bondi Beach selects Nick L. Back, TE
6. Portland Pythons
With just having such a wildly successful season when it comes to player talent and draft talent, Portland now finds themselves in some desperate holes that they now have to try and dig out of before they get too deep. Thankfully these are DSFL holes so the time table for change is going to be quick and this pick can really put the team in a good spot to at least fight in their division. They do not need to worry about quarterback and some other positions that just got called up, but they have a glaring hole in the secondary that has not been filled at secondary. This class has a couple good safeties that would be worth while to take here and I think that they can push linebacker along for the next round.
Portland selects Miles Weperom, Safety
7. Tijuana Luchadores
This pick is obvious right? I feel that some players have no problem going to other teams besides their usual homes and that some will fight tooth and nail to return back to where they call home. I think that this pick has wanted to go back home for a long time. Can probably put this one in ink and send it home.
Tijuana selects Sheriff Woody, LB
8. London Royals
So, you just won your first Ultimini and now you are wondering, “What do we do now?” If you find yourself in the London Royals’ spot, the answer is pretty simple but complicated. They have plenty of call ups that they will need to fill if they hope to have another playoff run soon and perhaps get back to the Ultimini, but first they have to fill in the spots that matter the most for even the most basic of team management after San Jose takes away the famed Red Arrow Jr. Despite having a quarterback on the roster, an 82 TPE quarterback will not get you wins. Therefore, they will make a quick an immediate upgrade at the position to close out our first round.
London selects Mason Malone, QB
Well, the mock draft is in the books and only two days before the actual DSFL draft presentation! The GMs have all finished their work for the class and the war rooms all currently talk about the misses or steals that each team had, cursing that someone went earlier than they thought, or that maybe some bad scouting happened, and soon everyone will be on their new teams to be greeted by their respective teams. Regardless of how it all shakes up, I wish the best of luck to all S30 draftees and hope that you can make an impact on your team no matter when you get picked. Just remember to have fun.
