Hello everyone, this is Dale Murphy. I am here to report on the first couple of games for the New Orleans Second Line, and it is my pleasure to be here with you tonight on the Second Line Defensive Young Guns Watch.

For the Second Line this was far from the season they were expected to have. Facing a pretty weak squad in the Baltimore Hawks in Baltimore, they were actually favorites on the road.
NOLA got the scoring started when Mike Rotchburns ran in a 2 yard score giving them a 7-0 lead on the first drive of the game. A punt, NOLA had the ball again. Ben Slothlisberger was picked off by Jeremiah Zelos giving the Hawks the ball at the NOLA 28. They ended the drive with a TD run of their own by Dexter Jackson, a one yard run. The last 3 minutes of the first quarter were scoreless.
The score remained 7-7 until just :23 seconds in the half, when NOLA capped off a drive with a FG by Pseudo QB. Oddly, he had not made the roster out of camp, but he was at this game. Taking a 10-7 lead into the half was not too bad for the Second Line.
The first two scores of the second half belonged to the Hawks. On their second drive of the half, Busch Goose had a four yard TD run to gave the Hawks a 14-10 lead. A NOLA 3 and out gave the Hawks the ball and four minutes after their 1st score of the half, Luke Skywalker found Chunt The Badger for a ten yard score, and it was 21-10. On the next possession, Ben Slothlisberger found the rookie Quinton Crash to pull NOLA bad to within 5, and they got the 2 point conversion on a run from Mike Rotchburns to make it a 21-18 game heading into the fourth quarter.
NOLA turned the ball over on their first possession of the quarter, but the defense forced a three and out. Getting the ball back, NOLA got the first of 2 Pseudo QB field goals gave them the lead. A Busch Light interception between gave them the ball in good field position for the second. Alas it was not to be. Luke Skywalker lead a picture perfect four minute drill, eating up 3 minutes of clock before finding Busch Goose for a one yard score, giving the Hawks the 28-24 lead that would be the final.
It was a wild first game for New Orleans, but ultimately the defense could not get the big stop to win the game.
On a stats check, Jonathan Shuffleboard put up 2 tackles from his safety position. Buck Nekkid had one tackle. Kevin Morrison put up 6 tackles. And the best of the youngster, Vincent Jones Jr. had 6, including one for a loss.

If you thought the first game of the season was crazy, you will absolutely love the second game. That is, if you are not a fan of the New Orleans Second Line. I had to spoil the result, but they didn't win. They played the New York Silverback, in New York.
New Orleans began the game going three and out. Kevin Morrison jumped on a pass on just the fourth play New York ran. But despite the good field position, the Second Line were unable to score. After a New York three and out, NOLA turned the ball over, a fumble by Mike Rotchburns gave the Silverbacks the ball on NOLA's side of the field. Sam Howitzer found Sean Snyder, and NY took a 7-0 lead, just before the end of the first quarter.
Ben Slothlisberger hit Ed Barker for 35 yards and then Brock Bodenhamer for a 35 yard score to open the second quarter, and it was 7-7. NY said, hey look, deep passing, and Jackson Kingston got a 56 yard touchdown, 14-7 NY. A five minute drive ending in an Ed Barker 2 yard receiving TD made it 14-14. A four minute drive for New York ended with a Sean Snyder eight yard touchdown 21-14 NY. Both teams finally punted again. With NOLA back with the ball down a score in the game, Ben Slothlisberger fumbled the football, giving New York the ball at the NOLA 44. 6 plays later Dougie Smalls made it 24-14, as the halftime score. A wild second quarter, going 17-14 for New York.
On the opening drive of the second half Howitzer gave Kevin Morrison his second pick of the night, giving NOLA the ball at the 39 of New York. Slothlisberger turned this gift into a Quinton Crash 2 yard touchdown. NOLA was unable to score on Morrison's first turnover, so not wasting another opportunity was big. 24-21 was the score. On the next drive, Howitzer threw another pick, this one to Dorothy Zbornak. But with this turnover they did nothing. Just 7 points on three turnovers at this point in the game.
The next NY drive saw them score a FG, making the score 27-21. NOLA went three and out, partially due to a 15 yard penalty taken by Jelly Roll Morton. Howitzer then threw his fourth pick of the night, to Andrew Witten. But the offense did nothing with it, and Taipan Pete missed a 50 yard field goal. Getting the ball back, Howitzer threw the ball to James Wilkinson, who had it stripped away by Jonathan Shuffleboard, giving NOLA their fifth turnover of the game. It is 27-21 NY going into the final quarter.
NOLA was able to finish off on the fumble, when Pete hit a 57 yard field goal, bring the score to 27-24 for New York. New York got the ball and Howitzer threw his fifth pick, this one to Jonathan Shuffleboard, who brought it back 29 yards for the touchdown, giving NOLA their first lead of the night, 31-27. The teams traded three and outs, then NOLA got a 18 yard field goal from Taipan Pete, the bulk of that drive being an Ed Bakers 24 yard catch and run. Howitzer then put his issues behind him, and led a drive down to field ending in a Dougie Smalls field goal, cutting the NOLA lead to 34-30. NOLA got a first down but then stalled, giving New York the ball. Howitzer found Sean Snyder for 48 yards to kick start the 75 yard drive, ending in a Tugg Speedman 4 yard touchdown catch. 37-34 lead for NYS with just 1:23 to play. Slothlisberger drove NOLA down the field, and Pete hit a 23 yarder to tie the game at 37, and force overtime.
New York got ball first in overtime. Howitzer drove them right down the field to get a 29 yard field goal from Smalls. NOLA then went 4 and out to end the game.
This is another heartbreaking loss for the New Orleans Second Line. They gave up ten points in the final five minutes of regulation, and then another 3 points in overtime. At the same time, despite causing six(!) turnovers, and getting just 3 scores (17 points) off them is disappointing, especially as one of them the offense didn't touch the ball.
As far as the Young Guns stats update, there were some great performances today. Kevin Morrison with eight tackles and 2 picks, Vincent Jones Jr. with 3 tackles and a sack, Buck Nekkid with a tackle, and Jonathan Shuffleboard with a forced fumble and a pick-six.
NOLA will look to straighten the ship for their home opener against the Austin Copperheads, a very good team, but it is in New Orleans. After that, it is on the road to San Jose.
I would like to thank you for joining me on this, the Second Line Defensive Young Guns Watch, a randomly occurring article that you can look out for in the future.
