Another ISFL draft has come and gone and I am once again going to look at the recently drafted ISFL’ers draft position compared to the draft spot they were selected in a season ago to their DSFL teams. This is something that has also been of interest to me for no other reason than seeing which players impressed enough to move up and which players maybe did not do enough to keep their draft stock as high as it was in the DSFL. I know there are a lot of factors involved here and I do not have any inside information, like at all, so please do not take this as a slight if your player has dropped between the drafts!
Round #1 – Pick #1
Baltimore Hawks – RB - Dante King (Norfolk Seawolves)
Starting off with the first overall pick of the draft, the Baltimore Hawks looked to add another element to their running game. Selecting the Norfolk Seawolves running back, who was part of a running back committee in Norfolk, had 153 rushes for 798 yards, which gave him a 5.2 yd average, which was the highest for any running back with over 100 attempts. His longest run was a 50 yarder and he found the endzone 3 times. King also racked up 108 yards in the air on 17 catches. The Norfolk Seawolves selected Dante with the 9th overall pick in the DSFL draft, the fist pick of the second round. King moved up 8 spots between the DSFL and ISFL draft.
Round #1 – Pick #2
New Orleans Second Line – WR – Quinton Crash (Kansas City Coyotes)
The New Orleans Second Line looked to bolster their receiver core with this pick. Selecting Quinton Crash, a graduate of the School of Hard Knocks, Crash was initially drafted by the Kansas City Coyotes with their 2nd round pick, 15th overall. Crash did enough to impress the Second Line’s front office, with 67 receptions, 1062 yards and 6 touchdowns. Quinton also had the second longest catch of the DSFL, with a 84 yard catch and run. He was also 2nd for all rookies in yards as well. Quinton Crash made a decent move up between the drafts, finding himself 13 spots up.
Round #1 – Pick #3
Baltimore Hawks – CB – Lip Gallagher (Portland Pythons)
Owing two of the top three picks in the draft is something special. Something you can build your future around. With the 3rd overall pick and their second of the draft, the Baltimore Hawks select cornerback. Lip Gallagher. Gallagher has been playing for the Portland Pythons in the DSFL and had a stand out rookie season. Leading all CB’s with 84 tackles, he also recorded a pick six and had the fourth most passes deflected in the league. With these numbers there is no surprise that Lip went at third overall and was the first defensive players selected. The Portland Pythons selected Gallagher with their 2nd round pick in the DSFL draft, making him the 15th overall pick, which means Lip Gallagher moved up 12 spots in the drafts.
Round #1 – Pick #4
Philadelphia Liberty – DE - Lucid Dreams (London Royals)
With the fourth overall pick, the Philadelphia Liberty selected the second defender of the draft, they picked Lucid Dreams, a defensive end playing for the London Royals. In their rookie season with the Royals, Lucid recorded 30 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and 7 sacks. Those seven sacks out Lucid Dreams in the top 10 for sacks the entire DSFL (2nd among rookies). Dreams was a 2nd round pick for the Roylas, going 11th overall. This moves Lucid Dreams up 7 spots from the DSFL draft to the ISFL.
Round #1 – Pick #5
Philadelphia Liberty – TE – Chevvy Bronko (Bondi Beach Buccaneers)
Feels like déjà vu, the Liberty were right back on the clock here, owning both the 4th and 5th overall selections in the season ISFL draft. Having secured help on the defense, the Liberty looked to improve on their offensive side. Selecting the tight end from the Bondi Beach Buccaneers, Chevvy Bronko. Bronko lead all tight ends in the DSFL with 72 receptions and 933 yards with his longest reception being 52 yds. Chevvy had 5 touchdowns to go along with that stat line. The Bondi Beach Buccaneers selected Chevvy Bronko with their 2nd round pic, the 10th overall pick of the DSFL draft, seeing him move up 5 spots to the 5th overall position.
Round #1 – Pick #6
Orange County Otters – CB – Suggs Upshar (Portland Pythons)
The Orange County Otters used their first round pick to select the second cornerback of the draft and it just happened to be the second CB picked from the Portland Pythons. Suggs Upshar was selected 6th overall in the draft after impressing the Otters with his 66 tackles, 4 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery, as well as 12 passes deflected. Suggs lead all rookies with his 4 forced fumbles, I’m sure that was one of the reasons Orange County had their eye on him in this draft. Suggs went to the Portland Pythons in the DSFL draft at this exact spot, 6th overall.
Round #1 – Pick #7
Colorado Yeti – LB – Sam Squanch (London Royals)
Could there be a better selection for the Colorado Yeti? I personally don’t think so! Sam Squanch was selected 7th overall in this draft and went to the only team he really should be playing for. The linebacker from the London Royals had an impressive 97 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovered, 2 sacks and 3 passes deflected. His solid stat line aside, Sam Squanch was made for the Yeti’s and has definitely been drafted to the right team. Sam Squanch did drop a bit from the DSFL draft to the ISFL, Squanch was selected third overall by the London Royals, dropping 4 spots this draft.
Round #1 – Pick #8
Honolulu Hahalua – LB – David Frank – Minnesota Grey Ducks
The second linebacker in a row was picked with the 8th overall selection, David Frank of the Minnesota Grey Ducks saw their named called when the Honolulu Hahalua made their first pick of the draft. Frank had a very solid season with the Grey Ducks, tallying 82 tackles, 7 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 4 sacks and 4 passes deflected. With solid numbers like that Frank was a wise choice for the Hahalua, he should add to their defense core nicely. And I’m sure the move from Minnesota to Honolulu won’t be all that bad either! David was picked 12th overall by the Minnesota Grey Ducks in the DSFL draft, moving him up 4 spots in this draft.
Round #1 – Pick #9
Baltimore Hawks – DT - Will ‘Brick Wall’ Smyth (London Royals)
For the third time in the first round, the Baltimore Hawks picked again. How did this happen, the Hawks somehow owned 33% of the first 9 picks in the draft! This time around they selected a defensive tackle from the London Royals, Will Smyth. Smyth had a decent season with the London Royals, with a final stat line of 31 tackles, one forced fumble and 1 sack. Baltimore is doing a great job building for their future, and with these three players, they are off to a solid start! Smyth was selected in the DSFL draft by the Royals with the 19th overall pick, shooting him up 10 spots in this draft.
Round #1 – Pick #10

The first quarterback off the board, Panda McKyle was selected with the 10th overall pick. Panda played for the London Royals in the DSFL

With the Yellowknife Wraiths first selection in the draft, they looked to add an offensive threat and got the with their 11th overall pick in Jay Cue Jr. Cue Jr played for the Norfolk Seawolves in the DSFL, along side the 1st overall pick, Dante King. Jay had a handful of more attempts (167) and yards (817) than King and had 5 touchdowns to go along with those numbers. The running back duo from Bondi Beach were hot commodities this draft, going 1st and 11th. Jay Cue Jr, dropped a few spots from the DSFL draft, since he was the 1st overall pick, dropping 10 spots.
Round #1 – Pick #12
Arizona Outlaws – LB – Marcus Jones (Tijuana Luchadores)
With the Arizona Outlaws first pick of the draft, they went for the first Tijuana Luchadore of the draft, selecting Marcus Jones with the 12th overall pick. Jones had a terrific season for the Luchadores, hitting the 100 tackle mark to go along with 8 tackles for a loss, one sack, one interception and 7 passes deflected. Tijuana has been known to churn out quality linebackers with the last name Jones, so I think Arizona got a steal at #12 here! Jones was Tijuana’s second round pick (interesting, so was another Jones of recent memory) and went at 13th overall, so he has gone up 1 spot between the drafts.
Round #1 – Pick #13
Baltimore Hawks – LB - Tre’mendius Johnson (Bondi Beach Buccaneers)
With the Baltimore Hawks 4th pick of the first round, you heard me right, their 4th pick of the first round, they selected Tre’mendius Johnson. The linebacker from Bondi Beach led the entire DSFL in tackles this past season, with 133 tackles made. To go along with that, Johnson had 6 tackles for a loss, one sack and 8 passes deflected. Baltimores third defender picked, will look to be a key piece to their future defense, just as he has in Bondi Beach. Tre’mendius dropped a bit between the drafts seeing as he was the 2nd overall pick in the DSFL, dropping him 11 spots.
Round #2 – Pick #14
Berlin Fire Salamnders – TE Gronko Muerto (Tijuana Luchadores)
With the final pick of the first round, the Berlin Fire Salamanders looked to improve on the tight end position and decided to select the newest tight end for the Tijuana Luchadores. Gronko had a decent season with the Luchadores, recording 47 catches for 485 yards, averaging 10.3 per catch. Muerto also found the endzone on 3 occasions. Gronko was the 5th overall pick in the DSFL draft, so going at #14 in this ISFL draft drops him down 9 spots.
So, there you have it for the first round selections, this is as far as I’ve went the last times I’ve done this comparison, but this season I figured I’d go a bit further. I’m not going to go as in depth as I did in the first round, but I wanted to get the whole draft done.

Buffalo Hunter was selected by the Royals with the 35th overall pick, moving up 20 spots.

I may have missed some things or gotten some things wrong, so I apologize if I have.
A couple of interesting things I noticed been the two drafts were that a running back was picked 1st overall in both drafts. The first QB to go in the DSFL draft was 4th overall and in the ISFL, it was the 9th overall spot. For wide receiver, the first taken in the DSFL was with pick 15 and in the ISFL, pick #2, both picks were Quinton Crash. Tight ends, #5 in the DSFL and the same in the ISFL (not the same player this time). For offensive line, again the same overall pick, 21st for both drafts. On the defensive side of things, the first LB went at #2 in the DSFL and 7th overall in the ISFL. In the secondary, 6th in the DSFL, 3rd in the ISFL. Defensive ends, 11th in the DSFL, 4th in the ISFL. And for kickers, 25th in the DSFL and 36th in the ISFL.
That’s all I’ve got, hopefully you enjoyed looking this over, I know it’s late, but congratulations to all of the draftees!
