Trying something new here fellas so there may be some teething problems!
It was a strong outing away from home in Orange County. The Sabercats weren't expected to take the points from this one but we definitely took it to them and shocked them out of the gate.
Alas a last minute fumble set up the otters for an easy field goal to seal the game, dashing San Jose hopes of an upset victory to start off the season.
Onto the game balls now and we'll start off with some honorable mentions.
The first honorable mention goes to our man in the trenches Jaja Ding-dong @ckroyal92 who protected Monty all game long. Covering defenders in syrup on 10 separate occasions as he pancakes the ever loving shit out of each of them.
Our second honorable mention goes to star running back and all around good man Jamar Lackson @BenDover. Whilst not his most dominant performance in the green of San Jose, Jamar punched in a 5 yarder to extend the cats lead in the first and caught a 2 yarder from Monty to even up the game in the 3rd. These 2 scores are the reason behind Jamar being so close to bringing home the bacon this week
Our final honorable mention goes to Zach Crossley @ajtigger who caught 7 receptions for 53 yards but also opened up the scoring in the game with a 14 yard TD catch.
Our first offensive gameball of the season goes to returning stalwart and San Jose legend Joshua Campbell @Buttersqauch101. Although he was touchdownless he moved the chains more than anyone else on the team. Pulling off 9 receptions for 139 yards. Campbell has been away from the Sabercats for a number of seasons now and his presence has clearly been missed. His veteran presence in this game was a huge asset to the team. Earning him his and the teams first gameball of the season.
In comparison to the offense there weren't a huge number of standout players on defense. But I'll still throw out a few honourable mentions anyway.
First up is our recently departed Phil Stein @IHateBobNutting , I'll keep this one short and sweet. Stein lead the team in turnovers with a big forced fumble and recovery. Good job.
Second honourable mention goes to the rookie Willie Miller @Sebster. Controversial? Maybe. Miller lead the team in tackles but this may well be down to him refusing to break up passes. A great showing nevertheless from the rookie and a sign of things to come.
Our final honorable mention goes to everyone's favourite singlet wearing linebacker Lawrence Bass @RussDrivesTheBus who had 6 tackles and 2 huge pass breakups.
That leaves us with our first defensive gameball of the season which goes to our veteran safety Rashad Hilliard @GotDatWeeFee who had a huge sack in the 4th quarter to stop an OCO drive in its tracks, setting up the Sabercats with great field position.
Game 2 saw the sabercats on the road again, this time travelling to the Liberty (still the worst team name in the league, love the people though). San Jose were once again the underdogs in this encounter but that didn't stop the team from showing you a huge amount of heart and putting in a tremendous performance - toppling the home team by 26 points to 23. Marking this as the second game of the season for San Jose decided by 3 points.
The offence in this game showed an excellent team performance with no one player really sticking out ahead of the rest.
Honourable mentions have to go to the running backs vermillion and Jamar Lackson who scored San Jose's two touchdowns. Jamar was a huge piece of the offence, leading the team in carries and receptions.
Matty Mcdiarmid @Matty7478 was a 3rd person unlucky to not be taking home the game ball with 14 of the teams 26 points. Unfortunately for Matty he missed one kick, removing him from the option of Offensive game ball..
The game ball this week instead goes to a picture of efficiency @Rradum, he may not have thrown for multiple touchdowns however he did keep the Philly defense guessing the full game.
He threw for over 280 yards and spread the ball around the full offense keeping defense on their toes. All whilst getting sacked on 7 separate occasions, making this performance even more impressive.
On defense the gameball could have gone in multiple directions.
@GotDatWeeFee almost got his second gameball of the season after grabbing a number of tackles a pass defense and an interception.
@AL_GRINGO was our second unlucky defender this week, also having a barnstorming game racking up 6 tackles (one for a loss) alongside a sack.
Not to mention @KoltClassic pitching in 7 tackles (1 for a loss) from DT, an absolute menace in the rushing game & @RussDrivesTheBus putting in 7 tackles a sack and a PD.
Today's gameball winner may not have had any massively flashy stats however they stopped the Philly offense from moving the chains all but locking down their section of the field. So congratulations @supertardis101 for a fantastic. Game racking up 6 tackles and an impressive 4 PDs.
GAME 3 Week 3 saw the Sabercats return to San Jose for their first home game of the season. The enemy this week was the New York Silverbacks who have been challenging for playoff spots the last couple of seasons. Once again, for the 3rd week in a row, the Sabercats went into he week as underdogs and once again they performed above expectations. In a very back and forth competition the game came down to the wire with the lead changing multiple times in the last couple of minutes. The Sabercats finished up on top, winning the game 24-21 against a very robust Silverbacks team.
On offense there were three stand outs. The replacement of Rando - Vermillion had a barnstormer in the passing game hauling in 6 catches for over 100 yards.
@Buttersqauch101 came very close to his second gameball of the season with a very impressive 7 receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown. The only downside of the performance was that those 7 receptions did come off 17 targets.
You've probably guessed the winner of the offensive game ball here. Two honourable mentions already and he's finally taken the next step, @BenDover takes the game ball here having a ridiculously efficient game ground game where he gained 107 yards off just 9 carries scoring a touchdown in the process. Along side that he put another 51 yards on the ball of of 1 reception (though we won't talk about the other 6 targets).
The defensive side of things here were a lot trickier with a number of players putting up huge stat lines.
@TropicaliaCC had his best game of the season so far absolutely smashing the run game with 10 tackles (one of which was for a loss) helping stop many a drive before they had a chance to get going.
Stein once again had a fantastic game putting together 6 tackles and 4 pass deflections. Stein really is on a roll this season, it wouldve been nice for him to see it.
Finally a small honourable mention to @Asked Madden for actually getting a stat other than tackles, grabbing 3 tackles one of which was for a loss.
This all leads us to our defensive player of the game, propping up the defensive line @KoltClassic. The meatball was a menace in the run game plugging up holes and putting in tackles where necessary. 8 tackles on the line is a cracking effort and for one of them to be for a loss is just the icing on he came!
Game 4 saw the Sabercats slightly favoured for probably the first time of the season with The New Orleans Second Line making the trip to San Jose. 1 of only 2 teams to finish below us last season we really needed to turn up the gas and beat them here to show we meant business this season. This is exactly what happened. Another rather cagey affair saw the Sabercats and secondline trading scores to start before San Jose cushioned their lead to get ahead by three scores with 7 minutes to go. With 40 seconds left in the game the Second Line had clawed back to within 3 but fortunately San Jose held on to take the win.
4 games into the season the Sabercats are 3-1. Each and every one of these games has been decided by 3 points so far.
The offense had a couple of standouts with @Buttersqauch101 once again piling up the yardage bringing in 9 catches off if 12 targets for a humongous 153 yards. Campbell was ridiculously close to taking the gameball here, but on this occasion not quite. @ajtigger also had an excellent game turning 5 targets into justd less than 100 yards.
Finally although the yardage wasn't really there, honourable mentions go to Vermillion, @BenDover& @3lewsers for scoring the touchdowns to give us the big dub.
Today's offensive gameball though goes to none other than the GM himself - @ckroyal92 who had another huge performance of 10 pancakes and 0 sacks allowed. Jaja Ding-dong is currently second in the league in pancakes and having had 2 games with double figure pancakes, it's not very difficult to see why.
On defence this week a few players really stepped up.
@TropicaliaCC had 4 tackles and a sack at a huge moment in the game.
Our IA FA pickup Simpson put in a great shift with 6 tackles 2 for loss and a sack, really showing up big for this huge game.
@AL_GRINGO had a game changing 9 tackles and threw in a PD just for good measure.
Even rookie CB @Sebster got to take a seat at the sack table picking up a sack and 2 tackles on the game.
They were all overshadowed by the behemoth that is @RussDrivesTheBus who put in a momentous 9 tackles, 1 sack and 1 PD to help seal the Sabercats week 4 victory.
A quarter of the season is now in he books and San Jose are looking incredibly strong. Teams will continue to underestimate us and with the addition of @RedArrow12c on the DLine this team should be looking even more scary going forward!
In the Pipeline
After giving out gameballs to the Sabercats I didn't think it would be fair to post this without giving a shout out to some of our scintillating cats in the Pipeline. Some of these guys may not ever play a snap in San Jose but if doesn't mean I love any of them any less.
@jsteele14 S27 - Bobby Tarantino - TE
JSteele was a promising prospect back in the S27 draft being picked up by San Jose in the second round with the 24th overall pick. Picked out of Minnesota Tarantino was well known to a number of the War Room through the Grey ducks Alumni.
As it stands it looks like Tarantino may be inactive for all intents and purposes aside from posting the occasional update to keep himself DSFL eligible. He has managed to hit the DSFL cap however so if he does decide to start earning again it shouldn't take too much to become a useful part of the San Jose team.
In Minnesotas only regular game of the season Tarantino out in a huge shift helping protect his quarterback, serving up 8 pancakes on a plate. On top of that he caught all three of his targets for 13 yards and even crashed the ball up for a 3 yard run.
All in all a very gritty performance to help the ducks take down the Royals.
@Griff001 S27 - Mills Wallace - DE2
The 3rd San Jose pick in the S27 draft and 34th overall pick was given to this defensive end out of Minnesota. Once again another guy grabbed due to his proximity to a few of the War room.
Griff is another one likely to be a DSFL lifer having grabbed 170TPE from 2 seasons. Wallace does play on the DLine which is always a need so if he does come back to Amy sort of earning there could definitely be a spot opened up.
As for the game, as mentioned previously the Grey Ducks won their only game of the season taking down the London Royals. Griff had a decent game for a DE racking up three tackles a including a sack on the QB.
@bruhbruhbruh S27 - Dash Smith - CB
The final pick of San Jose's S27 draft went to Dallas Birddogs Alumni Bruh aka Dash Smith with the 48th overall pick.
As you can probably guess from the 2 previous picks in this article, Dash Smith is a DSFL lifer. He has yet to break 100 TPE and is unlikely to earn enough to ever make the jump to the ISFL.
Even though this is the case, he has been kept active enough to play 3 full seasons for the birddogs including a winning season where he was able to lift the ultimini.
Bruh was recruited from the SCFSL, and as is quite often the case with recruits from there he fell inactive very early on. If you do ever come back Bruh we'd love to see you here!
Smith put in a weird game in the birddogs opening loss to Kansas City. While he lead the team in tackles that isn't necessarily a good thing as it means he has allowed a good number of catches against him.
@Jackers41 S28 - LeBron Brady Jr - DE
This is a sad case for me as I recruited jackers from SHL where his player - LeBron Brady had been lighting up the league in his rookie season earning him a rookie of the year shout out.
Jackers made his intent be known before the draft that he wasn't having a huge amount of fun in the ISFL and preferred the sims in SHL & PBE and that he'd likely become inactive here. Even with this we took the shot here as he was a decent TPE Dline, so if there was any chance at getting him back to earn it was worth the risk. The rest of that draft has been proven to be very fruitful for the Sabercats with them picking up 2 fantastic CBs alongside a new DE to fill the gap left by Connor.
At this stage Jackers is just keeping active enough to continue to help out the birddogs and stay there until his eligibility is up.
Dallas first game was a 28-22 loss @ Kansas City against the Coyotes. Brady Jr had an absolutely dominant performance from DLine making 9 tackles 3 of which were for a loss and one of which was a sack. This would have been a fantastic game for a linebacker but the fact it came from a defensive end makes the feat even more impressive!
Now onto our most recent draft where we picked up a further 4 prospects. In reverse order of picks.
@.duckszy S29 - Duck Awntop - DE
Duck was our 4th and last round pick of the S29 draft so he was always likely to go inactive but we decided to once again shoot our shot at a Grey Duck in the hopes that RussDrivesTheBus could keep then active and earning in Minnesota. Unfortunately since the draft it looks like the user has given up on all sim leagues and left the lot which is definitely a shame.
Duck had a regular DE game registering 0 stats in the win against London. We'll assume he was just clogging up running lanes and forcing all of londons rushed up the middle, hence the lack of stats.
@Urq660 S29 - Guy Gibson - CB
Urq is another player recruited by myself from the SHL where we were both brought to St Louis in the same draft class. Urq had since gone on to be one of, if not my favourite person in sim leagues. I'd lined him up as a first round pick for the DSFL and had hoped to snag him in the ISFL though knew that would be difficult due to various needs. Unfortunately soon after creating here Urq ducked away from sim leagues for a couple of months meaning he stopped earning and looked destined to be random buttoned to a team at the end of the draft.
That all changed one day when Urq popped back up in the St. Louis locker room. The minute that happened I was pestering CK about grabbing him this draft. This pick already looks like its paying dividends with Urq doubling his TPE since draft day, close to max earning since returning. I'll definitely be looking forward to the day Guy Gibson joins out formidable looking secondary, he'll be a fantastic piece alongside Miller and Hu once some of the older guys phase out.
Gibson had a decent performance in his one game of the season so far (a 41-21 loss to the Norfolk Seawolves). Racking up 4 tackles and a sack he appeared to be one of the shining lights in a fairly poor defence.
@BOOM™ S29 - Buffalo Hunter - TE
When the first round was finishing up and BOOM™ was still on the board I (and everyone in the war room) got ridiculously excited. BOOM™ had been one of my favourite scouting conversations in the seasons I've been scouting and I was positive they'd be gone by the time we picked. This was probably the quickest pick in the draft, with CK locking it in straight away. Boom has already become a firm favourite in the locker room, making everybody sick sigs and joining in the Dynasty draft we've just started. He is also ranked 12 in the league (not the class, the league) in bank roll amassing a ridiculous 198,000, 000 in his first couple of seasons. That's a lot of graphics! I'm absolutely amazed he dropped out the first but everyone elses loss is our gain!
In the game against the Grey ducks hunter was the most targeted of all the Royals playmakers, catching 6 of his 10 targets taking them for almost 60 yards. On top of that he did a good job protecting the QB with 3 pancakes and 0 sacks allowed!
@furiousPanda S29 - Panda McKyle - QB
With our first pick in the S29 draft we wanted to replace our aging legendary QB - Monty Jack. Wanting our pick of the class the only intelligent thing to do here was to pick up our guy in the first round. Whilst we were scouting the previous season I called out Panda as being a possible replacement for Monty as soon as he created. He's Dallas Alumni and recreated at the perfect time for the S22 QBs to hit regression. I've loved every conversation I've had with Panda so I'm really looking forward to him coming up and joining the team, even if it will be bittersweet accompanied by Monty retiring. Panda does appear to be trying to get this to happen sooner rather than later with the franchise QB incentives he's got built into his contract. If he does well in the DSFL poor Monty will be playing behind sandbags as opposed to the bots we currently play at OL.
Panda will definitely want to forget his first game of the season where they lost a battle of attrition against the Tijuana Luchadores 10-9. Pandas stats didn't look any better than the scoreline throwing only 12 completions for 139 yards and a 57.5 QB rating. No doubt McKyle will pick it up as the season goes on, but this one is one to forget.
Trying something new here fellas so there may be some teething problems!
It was a strong outing away from home in Orange County. The Sabercats weren't expected to take the points from this one but we definitely took it to them and shocked them out of the gate.

@furiousPanda S29 - Panda McKyle - QB
