As a former GM for the Orange County Otters, I made quite a few trades in my career. Now that I'm a few seasons removed from being one of the primary decision makers and therefore kind of biased in my read on decisions, I want to go back and look at each of the trades I made and review how good or bad it turned out to be. I also plan to look at trades that users submit in the future, and I have a form for that here: https://forms.gle/ZDrQHbkQvh3WY8it6
However, without further ado, let's take a gander at what I was able to finess as a GM. We'll go in chronological order, starting with a S19 trade!
Number 1: S18 season
->
S19 R3 (#25)
->
$500k S18 cap space
This isn't really a huge trade to speak of. The Yeti needed cap space, we had some, and we knew that S19 would have an okay shot at an active with pick 25 when the trade was made. So the Yeti got to jump back to cap compliance and we got a late round flier. Both teams won and neither team lost.
Number 2: S19 draft
->
RB Charles Allan
S19 R3 #25 (Zach Vega, QB, Waldo)
->
RB Slim Shady
This trade was the first one I ever made by myself, and ironically was a trade that involved the only other trade I'd been involved in to that point. SwagSloth approached me about this trade while we were a pick away from being on the clock, and spec hadn't been around for a while due to irl stuff. I gave spec about 2 hours to pop up, but he didn't, so in talking with the war room I realized that an upgrade at backup RB for a season was worth the pick. We didn't have anyone we wanted at that point in the S19 draft, and with Charles Allan being an IA S17 RB who was around 230 TPE at peak, I thought it was a great time to go ahead and move him for the now Hall of Famer Slim Shady, who while regressing and also inactive was 410 TPE at the time. We ended up winning the Ultimus in S19, and while Shady was uncannily good at poaching touchdowns from Apollo Reed, I do believe it was a successful trade as we got two seasons of a quality backup and Arizona got an RB that never earned more TPE and a player that requested a trade and then retired. So overall, I think that it was a good trade for both sides at the time, but OCO definitely came out on top at the end.
Number 3: S19 season
->
WR Kazmir Oles
->
LB Marlo Smart
This was a trade that made a decent amount of sense on both sides. Oles was a regressing WR near death who was going to be retiring at the end of the season. Marlo Smart had been inactive for a while but Arizona had someone in their war room who had been in contact with Broic more recently and they were willing to take a chance on the linebacker in order to give Oles another shot at a ring, and it worked, as Orange County won the S19 Ultimus. I do believe this was a win for Orange County, as if memory serves Marlo Smart never played a snap at the ISFL level.
Number 4: S20 draft
:otters ->
S20 R1 #10 (CB Victor Moreno, )
S20 R2 #20 (S Awkward Sexjoke, AdamS)
->
S20 R2 #11 (LB Bobby Boucher, BigUnitBabs)
S20 R2 #15 (RB Siddhu Sarvepally, siddhus)
This was a trade that was a win for both sides, I believe. Victor Moreno never really panned out to be a ISFL player, as I believe he capped out around 300 TPE and only played a couple seasons for Austin. Awkward Sexjoke made it to his first season of regression before retiring, and was required to be picked by Austin in the second round as he was a GM. We wanted Boucher and told Austin we'd make the trade as long as they didn't take him, and they did not. Boucher ended up earning about 400 TPE for us, and was a consistent starter, but was never a superstar. Siddhus was an Otter at one point, you did read that right. He retired after the S20 season, which let us call up his player for S21, but recreated as a QB who then swapped to CB after taking over the GM spot for the Honolulu Hahalua. I think that timing is right, but that is definitely what happened.
Number 5: S20 season
->
QB Brock Phoenix
->
S21 R2 #13 (DT/DE Rapid Eagle, rapideagle)
This was a trade that we actually kind of pushed the Liberty into. I remember this trade very well, and it was one that went exactly according to our plan. We had drafted Brock in the S19 draft with #20 overall, and that was way too late for him to go with how weak the S19 draft was. We planned to hold him for a few seasons then trade him to a team that needed a QB. Adriana Falconi, the Liberty's longtime QB, retired after S20, so we sent Brock to the Liberty to give him the chance to start and got a high second round pick in one of the strongest drafts ever in return. We could have gotten a first, but iamslm22 was their DSFL QB at the time, who agreed to switch to another position to bring leafs on. The pick we got turned into Rapid Eagle, one of the biggest names in the ISFL who was retweeted by Hulu at one point. He amassed well over a thousand TPE and I believe is now entering the twilight of his career as a defensive lineman for the Otters. I think this trade was a win-win for both sides. PHI got a QB, OCO got a 1k+ DL.
Number 6: S20 season
->
S Dan Schneider
->
$4m S21 cap space
AND
Number 7: S20 season
->
S21 R1 #6 (TE/CB Osiris Firestorm-Fjord, HEOB)
S21 R2 #16 (traded to Arizona, LB Trevor Mouseman)
DT Thorian Skarsgard
$2m S21 cap space
->
S21 R1 #1 (S Prince Vegeta, jeffie43)
S21 R3 #23 (WR Future Trunks, Lemon)
DT Curtis Saul
I'm gonna treat these two as one, because while they are separate trades cap space was involved in both and both were made during the regular season of S20. In S20, the Otters started on a 7-0 run and were poised for a deep playoff run. It was my first season as head GM of the Otters without Spec being around in an administrative capacity, and Revolution5 was my co-GM at the time. Early in the season, we traded LGMForever, Dan Schneider, to the Butchers for $4m in cap, just because we didn't have need for a 4th safety and the Butchers did need one. LGM was IA and was fine with it, just didn't want to be in another locker room, so the trade worked well for both sides as Chicago wasn't looking for LR activity during the season. Then, at trade deadline, I asked steelsound if he would be willing to trade his first rounder, which was essentially guaranteed to be 1 overall at that point. He asked me to make an offer, and I did. While I can't find my DM history with him to figure out exactly how many trade offers were proposed, we ended up making nearly the exact trade I originally propsed. The only difference was that we gave the $2m in cap as well as the picks and Skars. Skars we traded because we knew that he could help Chicago improve their very fragile war room, and he did fantastically with that. We got a replacement DT in the inactive corpse of Curtis Saul, the first overall pick which turned into Prince Vegeta, otherwise known as the always lovable and fantastic person Jeff, and we got jeff's roommate with the 22nd overall pick, WR turned OL Future Trunks. (also heck you hall you stole Simon from us) Chicago got Skars' leadership and help as they tried to turn the franchise around, #6 overall which turned into Osiris Firestorm-Fjord, a TE turned CB, and then traded the #16 pick to Arizona, who selected a bust in LB Trevor Mousaman. OCO lost 6 straight to end the season and were out in the first round of the playoffs, which I believe was karma for trading Skars away, and we ended up picking 6th. However, at the time the trade was made and I believe to this day it was regarded as one of the biggest steals in the league's history, even if it didn't end that way. It was easily the best trade I ever made and I think it's my favorite as well.
Number 8: S20 season
->
RB Apollo Reed
S21 R4 #36 (S Gregor MacGregor, KanakoTheSquirrel)
->
RB Ludicolo Bigby
S21 R4 #35 (Ryan Scott)
This trade was one of necessity. Anytime a player came to me and told me they may be looking to go somewhere else after the season, I had a talk with them about why. If I couldn't convince them to stay with the team, I asked them if they would be willing to be put on the block to try and help the team get something out of them rather than nothing. This was the case with HoF RB Apollo Reed. He approved being traded, so I reached out to Baltimore and asked if they'd be interested as that was where Nylar had mentioned being interested in. We agreed to a trade, which I still wish I had gotten more out of, but we were able to secure another RB and that was the main thing I was worried about. This trade was definitely a win for Baltimore, as they got prime Reed and drafted Gregor, who was a good safety. We just got an IA RB, who although admittedly had slightly higher TPE at the time was also an earlier regression season, and a draft bust so bad I don't even remember Scott's position or username.
Number 9: S21 season
->
S22 R8 #94 (traded to Philadelphia, QB Suleiman Ramza, Blasoon)
->
S Dorfus Jimbo
This was more of a courtesy trade than anything. The Outlaws approached me and asked if we'd be willing to trade a late round pick that at the time wasn't remotely going to be a good selection for the corpse of Dorfus, and I agreed. Scorp hadn't been able to win a ring yet, and I was willing to give him a chance at it. We didn't win, even though Dorfus was an upgrade at safety. However, the pick that we traded away very ironically ended up being the Otters' current QB. I'm not sure how it got traded to Philly but I didn't realize that was the exact pick until just now. Wild.
Number 10: S22 season
->
S23 R3 #35 (QB Reginald Covington III)
->
TE Jammerson Irving
S23 R8 #88 (TE Rick Casey)
The Outlaws put Irving on the block, and as we had an up-and-coming Jeffrey Phillips but no other TE, we needed a backup. Irving only had a season or two left of usability before autoretirement, so we picked him up and played him as true TE while Phillips played outside in true OCO fashion. Arizona essentially got nothing out of the trade because Covington never came out of the DSFL, so I think this is a win for OCO despite the pick we got being a total bust as well.
Number 11:

S23 R8 #93
Number 12:
->
S23 R8 #93
->
S23 R69
S24 R69
S25 R69
I'm doing both of these together because they were in-draft trades in S23 and didn't have any huge impact. Austin was done drafting but passing had been outlawed, so they traded us the rest of their picks and we took some chances on people. Then, I traded the last overall pick to the Hahalua as a favor to Dwyer who likes having the last overall picks in a draft, and got 3 69th rounders. None of the picks worked out so nobody won and nobody lost here.
Number 13: S23 season
->
S24 R3 #34 (traded to Philadelphia, LB Thomas Rose)
->
DT Thorian Skarsgard
This was me bringing the GOAT home. Skars had been on the block briefly in S22 as Bayley worked towards cleaning house when he first took over, and I tried to trade for him then but we couldn't come to an agreement. When Skars went back on the board in S23, I knew he only had one or two seasons of life left and I wanted him to retire an Otter with a chance at another ring, so I traded a 3rd to bring my boy home. We almost won the cup that season, if the stupid sexy Yeti hadn't made a comeback from 21-3 we would have won. I refuse to call this anything but a win for both sides, as CHI let Skars come home and Skars did come home.
Number 14: S24 season
->
S25 R5 #66 (LB Dexter Jackson)
DT Big Edd
->
S25 R3 #40 (RB Bronko Mills, PaytonM34)
DE Steco Ocewilder
The beginning of the Edd saga. He requested a trade, and due to shit he said in public channels it was known that he didn't want to stay in one place for his entire career. So, we traded him to Sarasota, who sent us a regressing replacement DL and a pick that turned into a serviceable backup for us for a few season. We also sent them Dexter Jackson, who I believe is currently on the Hawks after being traded there as part of the deal for Mojo. Overall I have to say I think Sarasota won the trade.
Number 15: S25 offseason
->
S25 R4 #53 (WR Harley Fank, Beebob)
S26 R3 #40 (DT Primo Berto)
DE Steco Ocewilder
->
CB Lord Beerus
This was after the expansion draft. We wanted to keep cory, and had been talking to New York and Berlin both about working out deals for them to pick a player of ours and let us get them back. We were able to work out a deal with New York for them to take cory and then send him back, so we jumped on the chance. We had a DL in the DSFL, so knew we would be okay, and we wanted cory to stay as he was my first ever pick in the ISFL and an integral part of our locker room. New York actually did quite well with those selections, as they picked up a decent earning WR and a DT that they I believe traded to Philadelphia. I think it was a win win for both teams as well.
Number 16: S25 draft
->
S25 R2 #25 (QB Jackie Daytona, mooty99)
S25 R6 #81 (K Leo Bloomfield, BloomeyGB)
->
S25 R2 #20 (LB/CB Richard Leaking, ReverendO'Reilly)
This is probably the second best trade of my career, but shout out to New Orleans for making an identical trade right before we made this one to set the value for us. We loved RevO but knew he wouldn't drop to us and didn't need an LB. We did some last minute scouting while in trade discussions, and once we found that he'd be willing to swap to CB we pulled the trigger on the trade. We picked up one of my favorite people in the league and gave up a pick that ended up being a GM selection, and a K who is still in the league and still the Copperheads starter. Overall good value for both teams.
Number 17: S26 preseason
->
K Pseudo QB
->
S26 R69
This trade seems weird because it is. This was right after the rule stating that DSFL players could only have 4 seasons before they had to be called up passed, if I remember correctly, and as we had Alex D and didn't need a K, we sent Pseudo over to Austin to give them a K until Leo was ready to come up. I believe they traded Pseudo to NOLA after the season as well. Either way, it was just them helping us out by keeping us from having to take a big cap hit and them getting a player at a position they needed.
Number 18: S25 preseason
->
RB King Tutankhamun
->
CB Tyrone Biggums
I honestly don't have much to say about this one. Both players were inactive, and we just wanted to get the other Tyrone Biggums for the memes.
Number 19: S26 draft
->
S26 R1 #12 (LB Leonard Taylor, TayJay)
->
S27 R1 #14 (Traded to Arizona in Bonus Trade, DT Fergus Callahan Jr.)
The S26 draft, we tried to trade up for Derek Wildstar, and when we couldn't, there weren't any other positions that we needed that season or even really two seasons in the future thanks to all the FA signings we did. So we decided to trade out of the draft and pick up a first in the next seasons' draft rather than pick someone that would have spent probably 3 seasons in the DSFL. We ended up swapping that pick with Arizona in a trade I'll look at below.
Number 20: S26 draft
->
S26 R2 #26 (DE Makota Okawara, tubbytim69)
->
S26 R3 #30 (OL Maiteers Rico-Shea, beaver)
S27 R3 #40 (CB Cayson Nzeocha)
This was essentially a case of the same thing as above. We didn't have any needs and knew that while we wanted beaver, we were decently sure he would fall to 30. New York wanted Tim specifically, so we were happy to move back and let them get their guy while still picking up Beaver at 30. Nzeocha is RainDelay's recreate, so while we're happy to have him around he hasn't said a word in the LR for quite some time now sadly and technically is a bust I think.
Number 21: S26 season
->
DE Ty Tyson
->
LB Sergio Kitchens
AND
Number 22: S26 season
->
S27 R2 #23 (RB Giovani Bianchi, SamTwoSix)
->
$2m S26 cap space
I'm gonna do these two together just because Number 22 was a necessity due to Number 21. Basically, there was a big thing that happened with Kitchens being IA for a decent amount of time then coming back to the site to do a few tasks and a position switch. We had Kitchens' DSFL GM in our war room, and knew that Austin would trade him because he had been on the board previously. We offered up our semi-active draftee from the recent draft, Austin accepted, and we sent Kitchens back down. Then, due to a rule that I still hate, we were on the hook for $4m of cap. We traded a late 2nd to the Sailfish and they sent us $2m in cap to get us back to even so we wouldn't take cap penalties in S27. The pick we sent to the Sailfish actually turned out to be a great hit in Sam, so I'd say that we didn't win that one but also didn't completely lose. Sam's awesome and I believe is over 500 TPE as the active backup to whatever Frost's player name is these days.
BONUS TRADE:
->
S27 R1 #14 (DT Fergus Callahan Jr., H0ppy75)
RB Tatsu Nakamura
->
S27 R1 #9 (RB Ace Savage, guunar)
S28 R2 #23 (WR Sam, Duilio05)
I didn't make this trade. However, this is exactly what I suggested that the team do before I stepped down from OCO and left the war room. I knew that AZ wouldn't want to give up a ton as Tatsu had options, so I recommended that they swap the YKW first with the AZ first to move up 5 spots, then ask for a second as well. That is what they did, and while I believe that Guunar has gone inactive due to frustration with the sim treating RBs poorly, Duilio is still around and thriving and is in fact the Casino head. Callahan Jr. ended up being the selection here and has panned out pretty well. H0PPY was a PBE GM until very recently, and is a good earning DL. Tatsu has of course been MVP material as he always is, so the trade was pretty much a win-win in my opinion.
I'm running out of time to get this posted before work, so I can't look at the submitted trades yet, but I do plan to do that in the future. I enjoy looking back at what's happened in the past and drawing conclusions from it now that we know exactly what the picks and players were worth, so this is definitely something I'll be coming back to. HERE is again the link to submit a trade you'd like me to look at, and I'll hopefully have the next edition out sometime next week assuming I have enough submissions.

->
S24 R3 #34 (traded to Philadelphia, LB Thomas Rose)
->
->
S25 R5 #66 (LB Dexter Jackson)
DT Big Edd
->
->
S25 R4 #53 (WR Harley Fank, Beebob)
S26 R3 #40 (DT Primo Berto)
DE Steco Ocewilder
->
->
S25 R2 #25 (QB Jackie Daytona, mooty99)
S25 R6 #81 (K Leo Bloomfield, BloomeyGB)
->
->
K Pseudo QB
->
->
RB King Tutankhamun
->
CB Tyrone Biggums
I honestly don't have much to say about this one. Both players were inactive, and we just wanted to get the other Tyrone Biggums for the memes.
Number 19: S26 draft
->
S26 R1 #12 (LB Leonard Taylor, TayJay)
->
->
S26 R2 #26 (DE Makota Okawara, tubbytim69)
->
->
DE Ty Tyson
->
LB Sergio Kitchens
AND
Number 22: S26 season
->
S27 R2 #23 (RB Giovani Bianchi, SamTwoSix)
->
->
S27 R1 #14 (DT Fergus Callahan Jr., H0ppy75)
RB Tatsu Nakamura
->
